Philippians is a book that teaches us how we can have joy in the midst of challenging or painful outer circumstances. We know that every born-again believer has peace WITH God (Romans 5:1). But it is an altogether different thing to have the peace OF God. In Philippians chapter 4, Paul contrasts between worry on the one hand and peace on the other hand. They are exact opposites. But he provides five practices that both combat stress and anxiety and summarize what this book about joy is all about.
