In the early days of Christianity, the Church put together statements of faith, or creeds, to combat false teaching and give believers a unifying statement of faith. These are statements that still unify believers today. In the I Believe series, we will use the Apostles' Creed as an outline to study what God's Word says about nine essential doctrines established by the early Church.

The Church is a body of believers, called out people of God, indwelled with the Holy Spirit, and set apart by the gospel. It is the calling of the universal Church and the local church to take the message of salvation to the world around us.

Today we discussed the Holy Spirit and our believe in this third and most mysterious member of the Trinity. Through the lens of creedal confession, we closely examined the work of the Holy Spirit as taught by Jesus himself when he was preparing his followers for his ascension to heaven. In comforting them, he taught them, “It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7)
