Advance the Gospel

September 27, 2015 • Pastor Blair Allen

The Gospel is a call to be missionaries. Jesus’ last words on earth to His people was a call to mission. Jesus sends us into the world as missionaries: “As the Father sent me, so I am sending you” (John 20:21). We are sent to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to work for the restoration of all of creation to its original “good” (Genesis 1:31; Romans 8:19-22). God's Church is to train people to live as missionaries in the practical rhythms of everyday life. The Great Commission is not a calling for some, it is a mandate for all.

Live the Gospel

The Gospel is not just a message to be believed, but a power to be experienced (Rom 1:16). Gospel-centred community is a radical call to live amid a culture of mere attendance and casual involvement. It involves mutual love, care, consistency and authenticity as we seek to adorn the person and work of Christ with our lives. The Christian faith is not intended to be lived in isolation. We were made for community – relationship with God and with each other. We need to understand that the church is not a place, but a people who were formally God’s enemies in rebellion against God then brought back into relationship to Him and adopted into His family by God’s saving grace through His Son Jesus.

Know the Gospel

You can't live and advance the Gospel with what you don't know. Knowing and growing in Jesus is the foundation for discipleship and the fuel for mission. Everything we do flows through the centrality of the Gospel in our lives. We must Know the Gospel if we are to live out the Gospel.
