Jonah 4:1-11

We conclude our series in Jonah this Sunday by looking at Jonah 4. Chapter 4 opens by saying, “But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.” Why would Jonah be angry that God spared the city of Nineveh from destruction because of their repentance to God? We will be looking at what was going on in Jonah for him to be so angry, and at the corrosive power of bitterness in Jonah and in us.

Jonah 1:1-16

Jonah was a prophet whom God used to teach us through his life. Many of us have heard about Jonah and the whale, but there is so much more to this book beyond the whale that speaks directly to the fact that we are all “like Jonah.” Jonah was sent to the Assyrian capital, the city of Nineveh, a cruel people who brutalized Israel, and yet God called Jonah into Nineveh. Jonah's response: run the other way!! How many times do we run the other day when God calls us to difficult people and places?
