The idea is that everything we’ve spoken about with God creating a people and establishing covenants comes down to his desire to establish a personal, uninhibited relationship with his people, which he promises and establishes in a New Covenant through Jesus. My aim is obviously to underscore that the New Covenant establishes our personal relationship with God through Jesus. This is what it all comes down to. We each need to cultivate that relationship and live into it.

The idea is that Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the covenant with David to put one of his descendants on the throne forever. God is always good on his promises; look to Jesus for reassurance. We can always put our trust in what God promises (not in what we want). Note also Psalm 89.3-4, 27-28.
