Jesus constantly broke through the barriers that allow us to surround ourselves with people who like us, as well as people who are like us. Jesus wasn’t like that. Not only that, but Jesus wouldn’t like that. Jesus constantly broke through those kinds of barriers. Jesus deliberately went against the norm. We need to show kindness to people even if they are not your people. Think about this with the backdrop of John 4:3-29.

Getting ahead in life seems to be ingrained in us at brith as Americans. But really it is something that is in all of us. This desire to scratch and climb through life whether it is projecting what we want people to believe about us on social media, or fighting our way up the corporate ladder, or making sure we are the most respected neighbor in the neighborhood we do what we can to be top dog in so many of the arenas of our lives. But What if we have it all backwards? Jesus came, and like he did with so many other things, flipped what our goals should be on its head. He set forth a pattern of living life that puts in the position to pour into other people instead of seeking out people to pour into us. Jesus redefines Chasing Greatness.
