Disciplines of the Mind

Women's Conference 2023

Our Satisfaction - Session 3

February 11, 2023 • Manny Pereira

We were created to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Fulfilling the purpose for which we were made is essential to true satisfaction. The mind was made to love God and will never be truly satisfied in any other love. In this session we will consider the supply that God gracious gives us in Christ for the discipline of our minds: Scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit. By these means we can seek the mind and will of Christ by the power of Christ. The goal of this session will focus on our satisfaction in Christ, addressing our feelings, our hopes, and our joys. We will look at leading our own hearts, renewing our minds daily in the gospel, and striving with our minds for joy in God’s glory. We will close with an emphasis on the importance of resting in the love of God to us.

Our Stewardship - Session 2

February 11, 2023 • Manny Pereira

A key principle to the discipline of the mind is stewardship. The life of the redeemed mind is a precious responsibility that we must steward with diligent care. Living by faith is a stewardship of God’s grace. In this session we will consider the battle for the mind, habits of the heart, and the art of redeemed thinking. We will look at strategies for practically valuing Christ more, preparing for temptation, and pursuing God’s glory and our joy from the heart.

Our Situation - Session 1

February 11, 2023 • Manny Pereira

In this session we will introduce the subject of disciplining the mind for the sake of loving God. We will then look at the immaterial anatomy of the human being from a biblical perspective. The situation of our minds will be considered from a biblical worldview, emphasizing both the noetic effects of the fall and the radical effects of the new birth. The goal of this session is to bring clarity to understanding the real you, that the mind is defunct by default, and that the mind of a true Christian is a new creation in Christ.
