Sin Messes Everything Up

Psalm 38

July 18, 2021

In this sermon Pastor Ryan kicks-off our third installment of 'Summer of Psalms' at Cities Church. He examines Psalm 38 and helps us see three things: our sin often messes everything up in our lives, that the pain we experience after our sin is often God’s mercy in disguise, and only God’s mercy can save us from God’s wrath.

Like Sheep to be Slaughtered

August 22, 2021 • Kenneth Ortiz

In this sermon, Pastor Kenny closes our Summer of Psalms series by examining Psalm 44, another Psalm of lament, but this one takes the lament a bit further by not only lamenting but also protesting. The Psalmist raises the question: "If God loves us, why doesn't be stop the tragedies we face? In this sermon we are reminded that there will certainly be times in this life when we feel like God has left us, we feel like we're sheep handed over to be slaughtered. In those moments it's essential that we remember that nothing in this life will ever separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Remember Your Hope

August 15, 2021 • Max Kozak

In this sermon, Pastoral Resident Max Kozak preaches from Psalms 42-43. Max explains the value of laments in the Psalms and how they point us to God—our only hope in times of trouble and insecurity. When we feel alone and in anguish, we can lament, we can cry out to God. He is our hope. And the ultimate hope us demonstrated at the cross, where Jesus Christ took on our sins upon himself and died in our place.

Forever in His Presence

August 8, 2021 • Mike Schumann

In this sermon Mike Schumann examines Psalm 41 and gives us a great word of encouragement and challenge. We are reminded that today we have sorrow, today we have pain, today we have worry, today we have doubt, and one day our bodies will be laid in the dust. But we will not go down with it, because God will raise us up to dwell in the city that has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light.
