Houston Welcomes Refugees

Local support to refugees being resettled in Houston

Website: https://www.houstonwelcomesrefugees.com/ Cat Benoit, Administrative Coordinator info@houstonwelcomesrefugees.com Mission: Our mission is to help ease the resettlement process for refugees coming to Houston by mobilizing invested, caring volunteers, fostering hope amidst crisis. Ongoing Prayer Needs: Pray for the refugees being resettled, that they would feel welcomed and cared for when they arrive. Pray for volunteers to be a gentle and loving example of the church in action demonstrating the love of Christ. Pray for refugees to quickly make friends, find gainful employment, and assimilate into their new community. Serving Opportunities: Houston Welcomes Refugees is working to mobilize the city to welcome refugees with compassion, hope and honor as they resettle and start a new life in Houston. They are not a resettlement agency rather they work with existing resettlement agencies to come alongside refugees and provide support in three ways. · The collection of Welcome Kits for every major area of the home: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, cleaning supplies, personal care and even kits for children that include school supplies. · The mobilization of Move-in Teams. These are teams of 4 to 6 people who are responsible for setting up the refugee family's home with the donated Welcome Kits and groceries prior to their arrival. . The mobilization of Welcome Teams. Welcome teams consist of 4 to 8 people who commit to serving as a support system for one family for a minimum of 6 months. In the first 4 to 6 weeks team members will visit the family 2 to 3 times a week. Often these teams are the only people that the refugee family knows.
