Church of The Way is a church for Downriver, and City Serve is one of the many ways in which we will express our love to our community. On Sunday, June 7, we will gather for ONE combined service at 9:30 a.m. We will worship Jesus, be encouraged and reminded why we are serving, and then be commissioned to our different serve opportunities throughout the community. We want EVERYONE to find their place to serve and make an impact in Downriver. Registration is required for ALL our serve opportunities, as many of them have volunteer capacity limits.
WHEN:
Sunday, June 7
TIME:
One Combined Worship Service at 9:30a
WHERE:
We will worship together at the church and then disperse to our serve locations.
WHO:
Anyone and everyone!
We have multiple different serve opportunities for you and your family to serve alongside one another. Each serve opportunity is unique, and some have age requirements, but we have a place for everyone to engage.
Heritage Park- Taylor
Food, Clothing, and Supply Give-A-Way
On Sunday, June 7, a group from CTW will gather at Heritage Park from 12:30p-2:30p to provide free food, clothing, and other items for any family in need. We will provide lunch, have bounce houses for kids to play, and provide any support we can to families in need. We have connected with the Taylor school district, and they will send out information about our park event to families. This will be a massive blessing to so many, and we could use 40 people to help make this happen.
Gibraltar Food Pantry
The Food Pantry needs support in organizing and creating pre-made boxed meals. You will be working there from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. This serve opportunity is open to anyone 10 years or older and has a capacity of 12 people.
Downriver Food Pantry
We have an opportunity to support the Downriver Food Pantry, which serves families across the Downriver community with groceries and other needed items. We will be cleaning their floors, doing some organizing, and performing small maintenance projects. This opportunity is open to middle school students and older, and we will need 5 volunteers to serve here.
Downriver Foster Closet- Organizing and Sorting
The Downriver Foster Closet needs help organizing and sorting the donations it receives. Due to the limited space of the sorting room, 15 volunteers are needed for this project.
Care Packages: On Campus for young families
We will be packaging care packages for our local fire, police, and EMS stations. This opportunity is open for our young families to serve together. There is no age limit or serve capacity. We will be creating 400 care packages, and we would need as many kids and families as possible to make this happen!
Heartbeat of Monroe
We are going to serve Heartbeat of Monroe by sorting, organizing, and addressing newsletters. We will need 8 volunteers for this project from 12pm to 3pm.
Westcroft Gardens
We have an opportunity to serve the Grosse Ile community and many of the local food pantries through Westcroft Gardens. We will be weeding, seeding, and doing some maintenance on their greenhouses. We need 25 volunteers for this project, and families are welcome.
Fish and Loaves
We have an opportunity to serve at Fish and Loaves Food Distribution Center by stocking shelves and cleaning. This project is open for adults only, and we need 15 volunteers for this project.
Yard Cleaning
We have four families in the surrounding area that need help with yard work and cleaning up things around their homes. These serve projects are open to families and adults, and each yard will need 8 people.
Playscape
We have the opportunity to bless a young family by replacing their rotten playscape with a new one. This project will need a small team of people who will likely be there for several hours. It is best served by having adults tackle this project.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace
We have partnered with a special ministry called Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which builds physical beds for children who do not have a bed. We will work with their team to build up to 75 beds. This project is open to families (with an understanding of the scope of building, drilling, and staining these beds) (all kids under 16 must be accompanied by a parent) and adults, and we could use up to 75 volunteers.
