"10 But after he had taken the census, David’s conscience began to bother him. And he said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly by taking this census. Please forgive my guilt, Lord, for doing this foolish thing.” 11 The next morning the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, who was David’s seer. This was the message: 12 “Go and say to David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will give you three choices. Choose one of these punishments, and I will inflict it on you.’” - 2 Samuel 24:10-12

Then Jesus told him, “Follow me.” 20 Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, “Lord, who will betray you?” 21 Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?” 22 Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”

Repentance

Freedom is a big deal. And when you think about it – life is a big deal, joy is a big deal, and hope is a big deal. But often we are robbed of our freedom, life, joy, and hope because of something that stands in the way. Although we may have struggles physically, or at work, or with the family, those challenges are not what ultimately stand in the way of reaching our full redemptive potential. Although we have an enemy working against us, that “prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” and set us back a few paces (1 Peter 5:8), agents of darkness cannot ultimately keep us from living into God’s purpose. The thing that stands in the way of ultimate freedom is sin. The only way to live a fruitful life is to remain in Christ.
