Handling Negative Environments In a High Tech World with High Touch

February 26, 2017

Apps can be convenient and make things more accessible for us. And in our crazy, busy schedules we need to be smart in certain areas so that managing our lives is quicker, more efficient, and easier. But think about it: we cannot cut corners when it comes to our walk with Christ.
We have apps for Scripture reading and Bible study, even an app for our favorite teachers and preachers for immediate inspiration. But there is no app for spiritual mentoring and discipleship. Picking up your cross daily and following Christ is personal—it is hard, sometimes lonely, and totally up to you.
Jesus knows what it is like to travel a difficult, lonely path. Although our Lord has the power to say a word and move heaven and earth in a moment, He did not take shortcuts when He walked this earth. Jesus was patient with God’s lost sheep, but often scolded the religious leaders for their indifference and demands. Have your demands for “instant God” left you angry and bitter towards the Lord?

Stop Trying to Make them Successful, Raise Up World Changers

We live in a culture where it seems everyone wants to be a star. Too often we adopt the notion that somehow we are failing as parents if our children are not held in high honor and accolade at their private school—participating in the coolest extracurricular activities, sporting the latest fashion, making the highest grades, scoring the most points, and well-on-their-way to becoming, you got it, a star. We strive tirelessly to set our children up for success, but we must take a moment and see the bigger picture. Are we preparing our children for Harvard or for Heaven? Do we want them to experience worldly success or a personal relationship with Christ? There is nothing wrong with success. But the next generation of world-changers will rise up from the power of Christ alive in the hearts of young men and women. That’s something this world cannot give—there is no app for that.

Stop Doing What's Not Working & Start Working What Works

Life is hard. There is no app to help motivate us to do the unexciting day-to-day tasks like paying the bills, taking care of sick family members, facing stress at work, dealing with difficult people, juggling busy schedules, and staying committed in a troubled marriage. In fact, there are many days we find it hard to get out of bed and face the day’s challenges. There is also no app for things that bring satisfaction in life like watching those you love grow in purpose, joy, and peace.

Building Authentic Relationships in a Fake Culture

March 19, 2017 • Dr Charles Kyker

None of us wants fake, and yet we choose between real and fake all the time, often without even thinking. From the sweeteners we put in our coffee to the “who” we put in our relationships, we live in a world where appetites dictate choices. And while all appetites are not bad, our choices do have a ripple effect. When it comes to areas like our faith and close relationships, will we choose real or imitation?
