Christians in ancient Galatia had forgotten why they should serve God. Even worse, false teachers were trying to convince them that they had to follow the rules, the laws, for God to like them. As we come to the end of the letter, Paul comes back to his central themes by calling us to take pride not in our own group, but in Christ. Rather than boasting in our spiritual accomplishments, we are to boast in Christ’s cross. Rather than taking pride in ourselves, we should take pride in Christ.
