Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6, verse 15, 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? 1 Corinthians 6:15. The emphasis here is each individual believer’s union with Christ. Specifically, our bodies are parts of Christ’s body. Your new life is not just to follow Christ’s example, but for him to live his life through you.

When you trust in Jesus Christ you join a new team. You become a new person by being united with Christ. Baptism symbolizes this union with Christ. Baptism depicts our union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. When you go under water you symbolize participation with Christ in his death and burial, and then when you come out of the water you symbolize your participation with Christ in his resurrection and new life.

There’s a truth that’s been missing for many Christians, even those in church for decades: union with Christ. Union with Christ is the truth that Christ is in you, and you are in Christ. Through the New Testament, you read over and over that we are “in Christ” and “with Christ.” Many have skipped over these simple phrases, but they form the heart of our relationship with God.
