Love.
It’s a loaded word. For many, it carries plenty of baggage. It’s portrayed in the media as something thrilling but fragile, desired but dangerous, idealized but broken. It’s a tainted view that, unfortunately, matches nearly everyone’s experience with it.
In 1 John, we see a very different picture of love. It’s painted as something that’s dependable, unbreakable, and unconditional. It’s the kind of love freely poured out on us by God. It’s not a source of fear; it’s the answer to it. It’s not fragile; it’s reliable. It’s deeper than romance or friendship. It’s a promise interwoven into the very character of God.
