Holy Night, part 1

As we enter the season of Advent we prepare for the celebration of Christmas first by looking back at what God HAS done and then looking forward to what He WILL do. We can trust God's promises because our history is full of His fulfillment of what He has promised to do- He promised a savior and He delivered in a way impossible for any but the Lord to accomplish. Our God is the God of the impossible!

Great Joy

When the angles appeared to the shepherds they were overcome with a joy that went beyond their circumstances. They didn't necessarily gain earthly happiness- they were still shepherds, still outcasts- but the announcement of the savior changed their lives allowing them to not only experience great joy but to live it out in a world desperate for good news. Following Jesus brings us great joy as well and we are called to share this great gift just like the shepherds.

Jesus came to be Immanuel, God with us, not just for some but for ALL people. He could have arrived to kings and people of power but he first appeared to shepherds, the lowest of the low. This is how he declared himself for everyone, by coming to the least to bring peace between us and God.
