Herod was a hard man with little mercy or empathy, and he was deeply suspicious and constantly in a state of alarm over the slightest hint of a challenge. He was a proud man whose self-image came from his accomplishments. And worst of all, Herod was ruthless and cold blooded, and he would stop at nothing to snuff out any opposition. The news of Jesus’ birth interrupted Herod’s life by challenging Herod’s status quo.
