Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day journey of repentance, fasting, and contemplation, culminating in Holy Week. The service is beautiful, counter-cultural, and deeply moving. If you've never been to a liturgical Ash Wednesday services before, some things may be unfamiliar - we read a lot of Scripture, we receive ashes on our foreheads, and we pray an expanded confession and litany of penance. This is typically a day of fasting, and we encourage everyone to fast as you’re able, together with the church. We will break our fast together around the Lord's table as part of the service.
