Workshop On "African American Native American Connections"

The NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRY COUNCIL of CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL is presenting a workshop focusing on the connections between African Americans and Native Americans on Saturday, February 3rd at the Cathedral led by the Reverend Brother Simeon Powell, CG (Cherokee/Saponi) and a Festival Eucharist at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 4th There is no charge for the workshop, but reservations are requested to plan for the included lunch. Brother Powell, (Cherokee/Saponi) and his wife, Anne, are Deacons-in-Residence at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Rocklin, CA. He is a graduate of the Episcopal School for Deacons, Berkeley, CA., and was ordained in Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, CA. He is the former Archdeacon of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and Episcopal Chaplain for the University of New Mexico. He has been a representative of the Episcopal Church to the Anglican Indigenous Network. Brother Powell is an advocate for addressing the effects of the Doctrine of Discovery in the Church and authored the Indigenous Lands Acknowledgement Resolution approved in 2022. Other presenters include Rick Schneider of the National Underground Railroad Museum's Family Research Center Parishioners with dual ancestry.
