Summary: In the college world, they are called finals. They are days of testing that might very well determine the failure or success of the student. In the world of medicine, certain procedures are called tests. They determine the quality of health of the patient. In the world of forensics, the tests are run to find out the true nature of a substance. And in matters of faith, we too are tested. In Abraham’s case, the moment of testing came to show where his faith lay and if it would be adequate to answer God’s call upon His life. By all accounts, Abraham proved his faith was in God and God alone.

“How sweet to hold a newborn baby” That song came out before we became parents. And one day, I found out just how true those lyrics are. But more truth was to be found, for while holding your own child for the first time is an indescribable moment, when the time comes to hold your children’s children, well, you are blessed beyond measure. As in the example of Jacob, the promise of faith taken hold of by the generations has more meaning than we can comprehend.
