Message Title: "Don’t Be Afraid, Just Believe" Message Text: Mark 5:21-43 Message Theme: From the Depths of Fear to the Heights of Faith Mark 5:21-43 Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman 21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” 31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” 36 Overhearing[a] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. 1. The Desperate Request A. Message Series: Experiencing God's Faithfulness Part 3 Message Title: EXPERIENCING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS IN TIMES OF TRIALS Message Text: 2 Kings 4:1-7 (NIV) The Widow’s Olive Oil 1 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.” 1. GOD RECOGNIZES OUR PROBLEM A. There was Death in Her Family B. There was Debt in Her Family C. There was Despair in Her Family Lesson # 1: “We need to know where to go when we don’t know what to do.” 2. GOD REVEALS OUR POTENTIAL A. There was the Strange Order B. There was the Simple Obedience C. There was the Supernatural Outcome Lesson # 2: “If we focus on what we do not have, we could miss the possibilities of what we already have.” Is your focus on what you don’t have or is your focus on what you believe God is going to do? 3. GOD RELEASES OUR PROVISION Lesson # 3: “Know that our faith has to function before we can experience God’s provision.” Important Quotes: “The flow never stopped as long as the vessels were there ready to be filled.” “That means much of our time should be spent on looking for empty vessels to fill – and in the ministry we need to bring more empty people, hurting people, needy people to whom God can pour out His blessings.” “The oil of anointing will continue to flow as long as we continue to bring empty vessels to be filled.” “And that’s what we need to keep on doing here in the house of God if we want more blessings to continue flowing. Many churches die because the members no longer have the passion to seek the lost, the broken-hearted, the people who need the Lord ... and the anointing stops flowing.” “When we start pouring ourselves to others then God starts pouring His blessings to our lives so we can continue to be a channel of His blessings.” Recorded via Facebook Live Stream from CLC – Scarborough August 2, 2020 Facebook: champion life centre scarborough YouTube: Champion Life Centre Scarborough Instagram: @clcscarborough email: scarborough@championlife.ca end
