Message Text: 2 Kings 5:9-14 NIV
9 So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha’s house. 10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”
11 But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.
13 Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

REASONS WHY WE GET DISAPPOINTED
A. False Assumption (v.11)
John 9:31 NIV
31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly
person who does his will.
Ephesians 3:20NIV
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or
imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

B. Wrong Expectation (v.11)
Job 2:9-10 NIV
9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse
God and die!” 10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[a] woman.
Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? In all this, Job did not
sin in what he said.

C. Conflicting Vision (v.12)
Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village
where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a
sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.
She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left
me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,”
the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen
what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

KEYS TO OVERCOMING DISAPPOINTMENTS
1. Control Your Anger (v.11 & 12)
Ephesians 4:26-27 NIV
26 “In your anger do not sin”[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are
still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

2. Humble Yourself (v.14)
James 4:10 NIV
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

3. Go back and Make things Right (v.15)
2 Kings 5:15 NIV
15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He
stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the
world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
