God promised Abraham a large progeny, but after giving him a son God tests Abraham's faith by telling him to sacrifice his only son. Of note, this is the first time in the Bible the word "love" is used. Abraham bows to the will of God, even not knowing what will happen on the mountain.

In a repeat of his actions in Egypt, Abraham puts his wife in the precarious position of being taken by another man. Abimelek gets confronted by God. God wants people to follow His righteous ways, not their sinful worldly ways.
