The Vine, the Branches, and the Joy of Abiding

November 10, 2024 • Peter Denham • John 15:1–11

Pete's "Swan Song" Pulpit Notes:

-"God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him." -John Piper

-Abiding leads to abounding fruitfulness.

Fruitfulness doesn’t come FROM activity for God. Rather, activity for God, and the fruit it bears, is a natural RESULT of my connection to God, or abiding in HIM.

-“The Father’s Hands are Hands of Grace and Growth”

- “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

-“If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.” HEBREWS 12:8

-Dis-connection leads to Decay, Dysfunction, and (Destruction)

-HOW DO WE ABIDE?

A . GROW IN HIS LOVE (His love motivates and moves us)

B . GROW IN HIS WORDS (We Receive, We meditate, We live)
