Jesus the Humble Servant: A Study in Mark (Part 2)

Beyond Boundaries

October 18, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 7:24–37

Lloyd is currently leading us on an exciting and challenging study through the miracles Jesus performed in the seventh chapter of the gospel of Mark. This account of the life of Jesus Christ is the shortest of the four gospels, but certainly contains many relevant lessons for us. Today we'll look at the Lord's healing of a deaf and dumb man, found in Mark chapter seven, beginning in verse thirty one. Jesus not only healed this man, but His actions can have a healing effect on you and me as well.

Ever-Increasing Faith

October 25, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 8

Those of you who are familiar with Mark's gospel may recall the story of the feeding of the 5,000 that we studied in chapter six. Well, today we encounter a similar miracle. Jesus is about to teach His disciples a valuable lesson on love and compassion. I'm sure you'd agree both of those are in short supply in our day and age, so we'd do well to hear what our Lord has to say.

Up and Down the Mountain

November 22, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 9:1–29

Many of us have wondered what it will be like to see God as He is. We're told, as Christians, that will be a reality one day in heaven. But wouldn't it be nice to get a glimpse of that glory here on earth? Peter, James, and John had that opportunity on a mountain one day and we'll take a look at their experience here on this midweek edition of Bridging the Gap.

November 29, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 9:30–50

You want to be great in the world's eye? Obtain a six-digit salary, rise to the top in your given profession, and find an attractive person to be your spouse. In fact, judging by the actions of some today, you might even be considered a cool dude if you cheat on your spouse, get arrested or enter a rehab center. But what is the key to greatness in God's kingdom? Find out today on Bridging the Gap as we return to our study of Mark.

God's Plan for Marriage

December 6, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 10:1–12

Don't you love how scripture speaks to us right where we're at, and so many times as we travel verse by verse through it, it's as though the words were written with us in mind. Well, Mark chapter ten is about as contemporary as this mornings newspaper, as it deals with a problem that is prevalent to say the least. Back in the first century, men were divorcing their wives left and right. Sound familiar? Well, the Pharisees of that day asked Jesus if that was lawful. We'll see what our Lord had to say on the matter here on this midweek edition of Bridging the Gap

What's All This Stuff for Anyway?

True Greatness

December 27, 2009 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 10:32–45

If you watched the Super Bowl, you might have seen that wonderful ad featuring football star Tim Tebow and his mom. One of the great things about Tim Tebow is that he knows what the greatest thing in his life is, and it isn't his ability to throw a football - it's his relationship with Jesus Christ. Today on Bridging the Gap, pastor Lloyd Pulley continues out series in Mark's gospel by looking at what Jesus said about true greatness.

Faith in the Coming King

January 3, 2010 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 10:46—11:26

One of the greatest things about the Lord's earthly ministry is the way He recognized and rewarded true faith. We'll see a good example of this as we see the Lord's encounter with a man called blind Bartemaeus. This encounter not only shows the healing power of Jesus, but also leads us to have faith in a soon returning King!

A Question of Authority

January 10, 2010 • Pastor Lloyd Pulley • Mark 11:27—12:12

How do you feel about authority figures? We all have them in our lives, no matter how old or young we may be. Many people have trouble accepting authority in their lives, because it's human nature to reject being told what to do and what not to do. Jesus had authority over the Chief Priests, scribes and elders on the church, yet they confronted Him and questioned His authority. I think you'd agree, this is not the swiftest move these guys could make. But let me ask you this: do you ever question God's authority over your life?
