Passage: Romans 6:1–14
Theme: Alive to God
Theme: Believers in Christ are dead to sin and alive to God.
1. Reality: We have died to sin (1–2).
a. Reason: We have been united with Christ in his death and resurrection (3–5).
b. Result:
i. We are free from sin’s rule over us (6–7).
ii. We share in Christ’s resurrection life (8–10).
2. Commands: We must now live like we have been released from sin’s control.
a. Change your mindset toward sin and Christ (11).
b. Stop letting sin reign (12).
c. Choose to do the things of God rather than sin (13).
Main Idea: God’s grace enables you to serve the Living Lord.
Application Questions:
• In what ways did this passage challenge your own mindset toward sin and living for Christ?
• Why do many believers think that they live a “defeated” life when it comes to sin?
• If we as believers have died to sin, why do we still sin?
• What does “count yourselves dead to sin and alive to God” look like in real life (v. 11)?
• What do you need to start doing right now to serve your risen Lord rather than sin (vv. 13–14)?
