2 Peter 1:3: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,”

Colossians 1:11, Paul prays that we will live this life in a manner that pleases the Lord. One of the ways this is done is by // “…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience …”:

Main Point: Jesus has provided you and me with his power to live a life that pleases him no matter what life brings our way.

Yet, Colossians 1:23 warns us, // “…if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard…”

Q: How will we as a community centered on Christ help one another “continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel”?
• 3 Areas of Focus for God’s glory in Christ at CCC in the coming year:
• In multi-generational relationships (Psalm 145; 2 Timothy 2:2; Titus 2)
• ABFs, Small Groups, mentoring
• In the home (Deuteronomy 6; Ephesians 5)
• Family discipleship
• Small groups
• Hospitality
• In the church (Ephesians 3:10-11)
• A place of worship (John 4:23)
• A place of prayer (Matthew 21:13)
• A place of equipping (Eph. 4:12)
• Creating space in the services for response and prayer

Pray for:
• God’s glorious might to strengthen us
• Repent of self-reliance
• Go to Christ for strength (Word, prayer, consistency)
• Great endurance (the ability to stand in the face of difficulties and persecutions, Pao, Colossians, 73)
• Acknowledge weariness, confess lethargy, repent of apathy
• Help us to not be lazy spiritually
• Patience (a mindset of calmness and control in the midst of difficulties, Pao, Colossians, 73)
• Acknowledge misplaced joy, confess restlessness, repent of impatience (grumbling, complaining)
• Take the long view

Prayer Segments
• Students: conformity to the gospel rather than the standards of others
• Young adults: commitment to the gospel as they journey into life on their own
• Families: modeling of the gospel by parents that is embraced by children
• Retirees: passing on the gospel in relationship with others
• Isolated: encouragement from the gospel to continue to find joy in it despite circumstances

Application Questions
• Do you truly believe 2 Peter 1:3? Does Jesus grant us the power for everything that pertains to living a godly life in all the circumstances of life? Why do we doubt this at times?
• What does being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might mean in Colossians 1:11? How are we strengthened in this way?
• Why do you think that Colossians 1:23 contains the conditional statement if indeed you continue in the faith? Why do we need to continue stable and steadfast not shifting from the hope of the gospel? What does this look like in our everyday lives?
• Spend some time praying Colossians 1:11 for the areas of focus and the various age groups listed.
