January 15, 2020 • Dr. John Waterloo
* Gods plan for salvation is still the same (v10)... even in that time of great apostasy * The wicked will never understand... but the born-again saints will! (1Corinthians 2:6-14) * In light of these inevitable events, how should we live? * Live for Jesus always! It’s worth it!

Outline of Chapter 11 * vv 11:1-4 From the Medo-Persian Empire to the Grecian Empire and the death of Alexander the Great * vv 11:5-20 The wars between the Ptolemies and the Seleucids (descendants of two of Alexander’s four generals who divided his kingdom after his death) * vv 11:21-35 The Jews suffer great persecution under one of the last Seleucid kings, Antiochus Epiphanes, who is a type of the future Antichrist * vv 11:36-39 The latter-day persecution * vv 11:40-45 The initial triumph and then fall of the future Antichrist (11:40-45) Applications * Keep your eyes upon Israel; the real underlying issues of world events are always spiritual. * Just like God’s nation Israel, nothing can happen to Christians without God’s permission. * If we want peace... then we must prepare for loss, hardship, and war. * Prepare our families by making sure they are saved and strong in faith. * We MUST have the mind of Christ… a Christian worldview! * Expect scoffers, persecution, and wars... but continue in holiness! Be ready to meet Jesus! (2Peter3)
Angels and Spiritual Warfare, Pt. 3
December 11, 2019 • Dr. John Waterloo
Never quit... but know WHY you never quit! * The critical thing is NOT what happens to us, but how we react * We get a choice on how to respond * Satan’s best strategy to win is to distract; Satan loves the distraction game Challenge your thoughts! Grid up or prepare your minds! * Challenge fear! * Challenge doubt! * Challenge anger! * Challenge worry! * Challenge low self-esteem * Challenge guilt! Think instead on virtuous things - think on these things (Phil 4:8) * Memorize the word of God * Meditate on God’s Word * Work for the LORD (get involved) * Sing the Scriptures!
Angels and Spiritual Warfare, Pt. 2

We cannot fight Satan with “carnal” weapons * (v 5) We must cast down imaginations — human reasoning and anything thought/idea tries to take precedence over Scripture. We often have “Stink’n Think’n” * We must challenge our own thoughts, if not, Satan will build a fort in our lives! * We must compare every thought to the Word of God! * We must remove, or cast down, errant thoughts. We can’t keep the thought from coming, but we CAN stop it from sticking!

REALITIES * We are in a spiritual war, whether we like it or not! * The Antichrist will prevail over the saints (i.e., Gods people, particularly the Jews) * We are eventual overcomers and eternal victors in Christ - we win the war! APPLICATIONS * Continue! Don’t faint! Don’t fall away! Don’t quit! (1Cor 15:58) * Don’t live in fear! God has not given us the spirit of fear, but rather a sound mind!
