Righteousness That Satisfies
January 17, 2021 • Michael Hansen, Pastor of Student Ministries
Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is His reiteration of the Law, of God’s standard for righteousness. We are incapable of attaining this righteousness on our own. Was Jesus’ sermon only meant to describe an unattainable standard, or was he saying something more? Jesus had the gospel in mind as he spoke this sermon. Yes, he demands a righteousness greater than the Pharisees, but he also teaches of a love greater than anyone could ever know. This great love that Jesus spoke of is the same love that bore our sins on the cross and gave us new life. In Christ, the righteous living outlined in the sermon on the mount becomes something to strive for through the power of Jesus’ life in ours. How does Jesus unpack the Gospel? - Through His Law - Through His Love - Through His Righteousness
