Righteousness

"HUMAN ANGER DOES NOT PRODUCE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT GOD DESIRES"

Mathew 5:21-26

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother sister will be subject to judgement. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca', is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'you fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

"Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

James 1:19-27

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because HUMAN ANGER DOES NOT PRODUCE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT GOD DESIRES. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone that looks in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it - not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it - they will be blessed in what they do.

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

1.) THE RIGHTEOUS LIFE IS DISPLAYED IN OUR LISTENING
2.) THE RIGHTEOUS LIFE IS DISPLAYED IN OUR SPEECH
3.) THE RIGHTEOUS LIFE IS DISPLAYED IN OUR SELF-CONTROL
4.)THE RIGHTEOUS LIFE IS DISPLAYED IN OUR OBEDIANCE
5.) THE RIGHTEOUS LIFE IS DISPLAYED IN OUR DEVOTION

"Set yourself to seek the LORD" (1-12) - Gather, pray, fast, and seek the LORD - Rest in His sovereignty "Stand before the LORD" (13-17) - Patiently wait for the Spirit of the LORD to lead - Listen to the Word of the LORD - Do not fear "Worship the LORD" (18-30) - Humble yourself before Him - Praise Him (His attributes and character) - Trust Him (His character, His covenant love, and His revealed Word) - Watch Him work! - Be still and know that He is God (30) "Set your heart upon the God of your fathers" (31-37) - Learn from history - Obey completely "Duties belong to us; events belong to God. When our faith goes to meddle with events, and to hold account upon God's providence, and we begin to say, 'How will You do this or that?' we lose ground; we have nothing to do there; it is our part to let the Almighty exercise his own office, and steer His own helm; there is nothing left for us, but to see how we may be approved of Him, and how we roll the wight of our weak souls upon Him who is God omnipotent." - Samuel Rutherford
