On Mission Together

"On Mission Together"

September 3, 2017 • September 3, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

We have spent the last 14 weeks in a series titled “On Mission Together.” We searched God’s Word together to identify the mission of the church. We looked at what it looks like to live out this mission in our homes, our church, our community and the world. We focused on the significance of discipleship, evangelism and care. We considered the importance of stewardship and leadership in the success of this mission. Sunday, as we close this series we are going to go back to the early church where we find a great example of what it looks like to be on mission together. This church paints a picture for us of a community of believers on mission with the Gospel. Luke takes us back to the fundamental building blocks of a healthy and vibrant community of believers, a community that was “On Mission Together.”

"Leading with Prayer"

August 27, 2017 • August 27, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

This week we conclude our focus on leadership and we have a special opportunity on Sunday as we participate together in the ordination and installation of the new members of our church council. Our council is made up of 4 Elders and 4 Deacons and these men make up the governing body of Canyon Lake Community Church. We will also be reminded of some important leadership qualities as we study a portion of Nehemiah. When someone told Teddy Roosevelt that he was a great man, he responded by saying, “No, Teddy Roosevelt is simply a plain, ordinary man – highly motivated.” Nehemiah was such a leader, an ordinary man who was highly motivated to serve the Lord and his people.

"Lessons in Leadership"

August 20, 2017 • August 20, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

This week we move our focus from stewardship to leadership as we continue in our summer series “On Mission Together”. We will be in the book of Acts as we consider the leadership style of Barnabas. Barnabas may not be the first name that comes to mind as you think of biblical leaders, but I can assure you there is much to learn from his example. It is a leadership weekend as we look forward to the Leadership Summit on Saturday with JP Jones, Sunday morning worship and Sunday evening we will conclude our weekend celebrating 10 years of Celebrate Recovery here at CLCC. Looking forward to a great weekend together as we continue together “On Mission with the Gospel”.

"Whose Money Is It Anyway?"

August 13, 2017 • August 13, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

Last week we looked at some biblical realities about money, including Jesus’ reminder to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven. This week we will consider how we are to steward the resources that God has given us. The inspiration for good stewardship began long before we had investment advisors. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” – Genesis 2:15 Join us this Sunday as we continue in our series “On Mission Together”. Also, just a quick reminder that this will be the last Sunday to sign up for the Leadership Summit. Please remember this is a church wide invite whether you are currently serving in a particular area of ministry or not. Please plan to join us as JP Jones will be our guest speaker and you will be encouraged as he brings God’s word to us throughout the day. This is a great opportunity for each of us to be growing in our faith and in our understanding of God’s calling in our lives. The conference will be held here at the church on August 19th from 9:00 – 3:00 and lunch will be provided. You can sign up on Sunday or RSVP to Janine@canyonlakechurch.org .

"Where is Your Treasure?"

August 6, 2017 • August 6, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

When it comes to money everyone seems to have advice for us; where to spend money, how to save money, where to invest money, how to make money. Amazon has over 280,000 publications about money. The Bible weighs in on this subject as well. As a matter of fact, during the Sermon on the Mount Jesus offers some financial insights for each of us. He gives us some “insider” advice on where to place our investments. We will be in Matthew 6 this Sunday as we continue in our series “On Mission Together” looking at the area of Stewardship.

"Does Jesus Care?"

July 30, 2017 • July 30, 2017 • Pastor Peter Van Dyke

This Sunday we will look a little deeper into what it takes to give encouragement and support to people in need. We will answer some questions like: What does God expect me to do? Where do I start? How do I show support and encouragement? What do I do when I feel overwhelmed in helping someone who is in need when the situation is really bad? The answer to these questions will give you great insight and direction into fully participating in Mission Forward in the life of our fellowship.

"Caring for Others"

July 23, 2017 • July 23, 2017 • Pastor Peter Van Dyke

You may have thought or heard someone say, “No one cares about me” or “No one cares if I live or if I die” or "I go to church regularly, but it seems no one even cares if I am there or if I will ever return.” God never intended that kind of spirit to exist in His church. Showing love and compassion to those in need is an attribute of what it means to be a part of God’s family. If the church is going to move forward effectively in her mission, encouragement and support for one another is necessary. This week in our Mission Forward series, God’s Word will show us the importance and necessity of being the person who God has strategically placed to bless others.

Evangelism - Who Me?

July 16, 2017 • July 16, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

Last week, we focused on the why of evangelism and this week we will consider the how. How is it that we share the truth of Christ with a world that seems at best ambivalent and at worst opposed to the gospel? There are many recommendations on how to evangelize, many books, many methods and many opinions. The apostle Paul had some suggestions of his own. Join us this Sunday as we continue in our series “On Mission Together.”

Evangelism - Why Me?

July 9, 2017 • July 9, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

The topic of evangelism can elicit numerous responses in the church. Most Christians (75%) believe we have a duty or responsibility to share our faith with others, but only 50% have done this in the past year. Some Christians equate evangelism to persuading or convincing others to respond to Jesus as they have. Others argue the need to “package” the gospel in such a way that those they are sharing with are assured of believing. Still others may view evangelism as a way of saving others from themselves and convincing them of the truth. For the next two weeks, as we continue in our series, “On Mission Together,” we will go to God’s Word to determine the why’s and how’s of evangelism. Why should we participate in evangelism and why is it such an important part of our faith? How do we effectively share our faith with others? These are a few of the questions we will look at beginning this Sunday.

Discipleship: Sharing and Experiencing True Joy (Part 2)

July 2, 2017 • July 2, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

“Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ." Dietrich Bonhoeffer could usually be counted on to speak plainly and clearly about theology and faith. In one of his most noted works, The Cost of Discipleship, he expands on this particular quote reminding us that everything of value comes at a cost. Paul reminds Timothy of this, as well. We continue our focus on discipleship this week as we continue in our series “On Mission Together”.

Discipleship: Sharing and Experiencing True Joy

June 25, 2017 • June 25, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

We continue in our series "On Mission Together" and for the next two weeks we will focus in on the area of discipleship. As a church, we have seen many "pictures" of what it looks like to be on mission together. This past week, we had a team head to Mexico to build a home, a group of students and leaders heading out for Summer Camp, and preparations are being made for Vacation Bible School, just to name a few. In every one of these instances, discipleship is taking place. Discipleship is the engine that moves the church forward. Kevin DeYoung describes it this way, "The one indispensable requirement for producing godly, mature Christians is godly, mature Christians."

Calling All Dads

June 18, 2017 • June 18, 2017 • Pastor Jay Farwell

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! Pastor Dave spoke last week on an extremely critical area where we need to be "On Mission Together" in our families. We are instructed in Proverbs 22:6 to "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." While God covers our shortcomings as people and blesses our hurting families, this instruction works best when husbands and wives work together as a team. But even in that relationship, God created us differently and with different roles. Our world is desperate for fathers to live into the way God created them and to carry the role that He gave them. Our prayer this Father's Day is that all of us are encouraged, challenged, and filled up as we continue to strive together to see our families grow under the blanket of God's grace.

Relaying the Truth

June 11, 2017 • June 11, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

“Love the Lord and follow His plan for your lives. Cling to Him enthusiastically.” (Joshua 22:5) That verse describes what we want for our children. Last week, we celebrated graduation for a number of our students here at CLCC. As parents, we know that the time from baby-proofing our home to the moment our kids move their tassel from one side to the other goes very quickly. This week, as we continue in our series “On Mission Together” we will focus in on a mission critical area, our families.

June 4, 2017 • June 4, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

This week, we continue in our summer series “On Mission Together.” Last week, the apostle Paul gave us some important aspects of a successful mission. This week, we will look at three vital facets of this mission and how they are being fulfilled in the life of Canyon Lake Community Church. Join us Sunday as we close our services in remembrance and celebration by participating together in Holy Communion.

On Mission Together - Part 1

May 28, 2017 • May 28, 2017 • Pastor Dave Dick

This week, we begin our summer series “On Mission Together”. As we completed our study in John, we were reminded that we have been sent. We have a mission as believers and as the church. This summer, we will consider what it takes to accomplish that mission. Join us Sunday as the apostle Paul gives us some great insights into what is required for a successful mission.
