Christ in Isaiah
The Fifth Gospel - Christ in Isaiah
Isaiah Review • May 8, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Moms! Where would we be without you? This Mother’s day we will be concluding our series in Isaiah. Join us as we consider what we have learned about the people of Judah, what we have learned about God and the Servant and ultimately what we have learned about ourselves.
Grace and Restoration
Isaiah 55 • May 1, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Speaking on the work of the servant, John MacArthur said this, "As far as the way of salvation is concerned, there are only two religions the world has ever known or will ever know - the religion of divine accomplishment, which is biblical Christianity, and the religion of human achievement, which includes all other kinds of religion...." This week in Isaiah 54 and 55, we will be looking at what has been accomplished by the Servant. Isaiah continues to unfold God's character, specifically His grace that has brought restoration. The people of Judah must recognize their need for God. We are no different today.
The Suffering Servant (Christ in Isaiah)
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 • April 24, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Nothing embodies "Christ in Isaiah" more than the Fourth Servant Song. This week, we will study Isaiah 53. This chapter is the most recognized in the book of Isaiah. Along with Psalm 22, Isaiah 53 gives us perhaps the most stunning picture of the crucifixion and the extent of God's love and passion to redeem His children.
Isaiah 52 • April 17, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
This week, we have a pause between the third and fourth Servant Songs as we study Isaiah 52. Isaiah encourages his listeners that it is time to wake up! Many of you may have those natural alarms that wake you each morning at the same time, but for those who wake with the sound of an alarm clock, waking up can be a startling experience. Sometimes, we need to be startled. The people of Judah certainly did.
The Faithful Servant
Isaiah 50:4-11 • April 10, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
We are coming into the stretch drive in our series in Isaiah. This week, we will look at the third servant song in Isaiah 50. As we learn more about the servant, we are reminded of what it means to walk in the light. Dwight L. Moody once said, "We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't call attention to their shining - they just shine." This week, the prophet Isaiah reminds us that we must be careful to walk in God's light and not our own.
The Obedient Servant
Isaiah 49 • April 3, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
We continue this week in our series The Fifth Gospel - Christ in Isaiah. Isaiah 49 is the second of four Servant Songs in the book of Isaiah. The prophet continues to encourage the people of Judah that God has not forgotten them and that he will fulfill his covenant promise. The servant will come for Israel and the nations. BE ENCOURAGED is something we need to hear today as well.
God's Chosen Servant
Isaiah 42 • March 20, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
God chose a servant to accomplish His plan of salvation for the world. As we come to Palm Sunday, we are reminded of the Servant who would bring salvation. The One who through His death and resurrection ushered in the Kingdom of God that is and that is to come. He will bring justice to the nations. Not only will God's people be delivered from Babylon, but sinners will be delivered from their condemnation.
God Is Great
Isaiah 40 • March 13, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
"Someone has defined "circumstances" as "those nasty things you see when you get your eyes off of God." If you look at God through your circumstances, He will seem small and very far away, but if by faith you look at your circumstances through God, He will draw very near and reveal His greatness to you." Warren Wiersbe. This week in Isaiah chapter 40, the prophet encourages the people of Judah with the greatness of God.
Jesus Is the King
Isaiah 32 • March 6, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
History records many kings and many kingdoms. It is estimated that 43 monarchies exist in the world today. These kingdoms vary greatly from many of the kingdoms in history. The majority of today's monarchies are limited in their power and are largely ceremonial, although there are a select number that retain absolute power. The historical kingdoms of man come and go, but this week Isaiah reminds us that Jesus is a King who reigns in righteousness. Join us Sunday as we celebrate Communion and a kingdom that is here and is to come. A kingdom and a King who will reign forever.
Isaiah 28 • February 28, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
When it comes to buildings, the foundation carries the load of the structure. When a foundation is secure, when it is plumb and level, everything that goes on top of it will fit properly. A solid foundation for your home is a must as it provides protection for the structure, prevents shifting or settling, and maintains your home's value. Whether it is your home or your life, the foundation provides the basis for everything that comes after. This week in Isaiah 28 we learn that Jesus is our foundation. He is the cornerstone of a sure foundation.
God Swallows Death
Isaiah 25 • February 21, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Over the years, many have raised objections to the resurrection of Jesus Christ believing instead that He simply pretended or appeared to die on the cross, others argue that He did not rise from the dead but instead His body was stolen and still others have claimed that it was His brother who died. This week as we continue in the book of Isaiah, we will be looking at the resurrection, as well as the promise that Isaiah shares in chapter 25 that God will swallow up death and it will be forever.
The Reign of the Branch
Isaiah 11:1-5 • February 14, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
A survey conducted with adults in the United Kingdom was just released with some surprising results. Only six out of ten adults in the United Kingdom believe that Jesus was a real person who actually lived. Only 22% believe that He was God in human form. Isaiah has something to say about that as we move into chapter 11 this week. Not only is Jesus real, but He is a righteous branch who will reign.
A Light Shines in the Darkness
Isaiah 8-9 • February 7, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Light travels at a speed of 186,000 miles/second, if the sun were extinguished it would take over 8 minutes before we would notice. Sunlight can reach a depth of 80 meters in the ocean after that it is complete darkness. The world's longest-lasting light bulb, the centennial light in California, has reportedly been burning since 1901, with a few interruptions during power failures. This week in Isaiah, the prophet tells of a light that will overcome the darkness, a light that will never burn out, but instead usher in an eternal kingdom.
Immanuel - God with Us
Isaiah 7 • January 31, 2016 • Pastor Dave Dick
Long-time talk show host Larry King was asked who in all of history would he most like to interview. His reply was Jesus Christ. When asked what he would ask Him, King replied, "I would like to ask Him if he was indeed virgin-born. The answer to that question would define history for me." The prophet Isaiah gave us that answer over 2,800 years ago. Join us this week as we continue our series in chapter 7 of the book of Isaiah.
