The Bible #NoFilter
September 2, 2018 • September 2, 2018 • Pastor Jay Farwell
This Sunday, we look forward to enjoying the Holy Sacrament of Communion together. As we come to the table, we want to reflect on what communion is. Sure we could probably tell you what it means and why we do it, but many times there are two responses that we can have when we come to the Lord’s Table. The first is with a sense of commonality and the second is with a sense despair. These are a far cry from what communion is to us, a blessed gift from our Savior to help us remember the gospel and to declare it boldly both to ourselves and to an on-looking world. Let’s ENJOY communion together this week.
Learning to Swim
August 26, 2018 • August 26, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
What do we do with what we have we have heard this summer? As we wrap up our summer series “The Bible #nofilter” the question is - what’s next? What do we do with all of this information? What is God asking of us as the church in 2018 as it relates to the culture that exists today in our valley, in our state, in our country? In keeping with the theme of summer maybe we should start by taking a swim.
Exchanging God's Glory for... (Part Two)
August 19, 2018 • August 19, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
Where was the last place that you did some people watching? It is amazing how quickly we see the differences between people by how they look, what they are wearing, by the people they are with, or maybe even the language they use or how they look at you. It is often easier to see how we are different than it is to recognize what we have in common. Last week we began a series within the series as we took a look at how we exchange God's glory in our life. Our focus last week was on the area of sexual sin in our lives. This week we will look at part 2 of "Exchanging God's Glory for...." as we focus in on two encounters recorded in the book of John. The first encounter was between Jesus and a highly respected religious leader and the second was between Jesus and a woman who was ostracized by her community. On the surface it would appear that these two people would not have much in common, but as we take a closer look we see they were both exchanging God's glory for something else and that is not all they have in common. Join us Sunday as we continue in our summer series "The Bible #nofilter."
Exchanging God's Glory for... (Part One)
August 12, 2018 • August 12, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
This Sunday as we continue on our series “The Bible #nofilter” we will be focusing in on a very relevant and sensitive issue in our society today. This week we will be considering the area of sexual sin, including homosexuality. This is a very personal topic for many of us as we have experienced it in the lives of those closest to us including family and friends. The Bible has much to say regarding this area of our lives. Our goal this week as it has been every week is to hear from God’s word as we seek to respond from God’s perspective.
Please Forgive My Bitterness
August 5, 2018 • August 5, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
Bitterness seems to be on the rise in our nation today. The level of bitterness expressed in our public discourse as well as the number of people who would be characterized as bitter both appear to be growing. This Sunday as we prepare our hearts for Holy Communion we will be considering the biblical antidote to bitterness. It is a biblical principle that we are all familiar with, forgiveness. Specifically this week we will consider the question “Can we truly forgive someone if they are not asking for our forgiveness?” and if so, “why would we?” “Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive.” C.S. Lewis
How Can We Help?
July 29, 2018 • July 29, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
We continue in our series, "The Bible #nofilter" as we look at another issue facing the church today. Many people place the issue of poverty under the umbrella of social justice. This week we will consider what the Bible says about the churches role in bringing fairness and justice to the world.
July 22, 2018 • July 22, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
In Psalm 139 King David said “...you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” He was referring to God’s specific attention given to him. He reminds us that God cares for each of us personally. God gives us life. It is a precious gift. This Sunday as we continue in our summer series “The Bible #nofilter” we will look at what the Bible has to say about life and how we should treat it.
Is It Really All About the Money?
July 15, 2018 • July 15, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
Money is always an interesting topic both inside and outside the church. How to make it……How to spend it……How to invest it……How to share it…….How much is enough? As a society we tend to rate each other based on money and possessions. Often we covet the life of others and what they possess. The Bible has a great deal to say about money. This week we will look at some of the advice we receive from God’s Word in an effort to answer a number of questions about how we handle this important aspect of our lives. Join us this Sunday as we continue in our series, “The Bible #nofilter.”
Are We Having Fun Yet?
July 8, 2018 • July 8, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
If you were to ask people, "where do you go to have fun?" church may not be first on the list. In fact, many today describe church, and those who attend church, as stuffy, too serious, unable to laugh, even boring. Boring? I beg your pardon…… But are they correct in their assessment? Is the church too serious? Can Christians actually have fun? This week we continue in our summer series, “The Bible #nofilter” as we answer the question “Are We Having Fun Yet?”
July 1, 2018 • July 1, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
As we approach July 4th, we are reminded of the freedoms we possess in this nation. Most of us appreciate the wide variety of choices that we have been given in this country from the home that we live in, to the car we drive, to what career we pursue, to where we shop. The list is long and we are blessed to have choices. Most of these choices would not be considered right or wrong, but simply a preference. Many today argue that this same philosophy of personal choice should guide our approach to religion and truth. This Sunday we will consider the biblical response to that idea as we continue in our summer series “The Bible #nofilter.”
Heaven or Else...
June 24, 2018 • June 24, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
C.S. Lewis had this to say about the doctrine of Hell, “There is no doctrine which I would willingly remove from Christianity than this (Hell) if it lay in my power. But it has full support of scripture and, especially, of our Lord’s own words; it has always been held by Christendom, and has the support of reason.” We continue this week in our series “The Bible #nofilter” and you guessed it, we are focusing in on a doctrine of the church that does not receive rave reviews in our culture today. We will take a look at what the Bible has to say about Hell.
The Most Important Thing a Father Can Do
June 17, 2018 • June 17, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
As we celebrate Dad this week we will continue in our series, “The Bible #nofilter”. We will focus in on God’s design and definition for marriage with a special emphasis on the role of husbands and fathers. There is little doubt that God’s design for marriage is under attack today on many fronts. This week we will consider why this original design for marriage is so important and how defending it directly impacts our ability to effectively communicate the gospel.
How About Some Respect
June 10, 2018 • June 10, 2018 • Pastor Peter Van Dyke
One area where there seems to be a big change in this world, and not for the better, is in the respect that people show for and towards one another. I am of the conviction that respect is an important attribute in living out a Christ-centered life. The Bible has much to say about how we are to respect others in our words, attitude and actions because life is precious and every human being is important to God. This Sunday we will open God’s Word to see what the Bible has to say about the way God wants us to respect others. Remember, respecting others is not an option for the Christian, it’s a requirement. Read Ephesians 4: 29-32 in preparation for your Sunday worship.
Did I Say Something Wrong?
June 3, 2018 • June 3, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
We live in a "sound bite" society and most people are making their judgments quickly and without a great deal of information or facts. The positions of the church are no different - people have been deluged by 30 to 60 second sound bites about what Christians believe regarding multiple issues. It is not surprising that many people do not know what to believe about God or the church today, but what is it about Christianity that seems to offend so many in our society? We will seek to answer that question this week as we continue in our series “The Bible #nofilter.”
The Bible - Part 2
May 27, 2018 • May 27, 2018 • Pastor Dave Dick
We continue this week in our Summer Series “The Bible #nofilter.” This series will look to God’s Word as we try to answer a number of questions that we are faced with today. The truth of God’s Word is at the forefront of our society today with efforts to completely silence it. There are even efforts within the greater church today to make changes or adjustments which bring questions regarding the inerrancy and authority of God’s word as it has been revealed to us. Join us Sunday as we continue our look at God’s Word including its inerrancy and authority.
