Wisdom and the Cross

September 23, 2018

We see crosses everywhere today. You may see them on a necklace, a t-shirt, on a church or placed on top of a hill like the one above the church. The responses to the cross are varied, for a believer it is a reminder of God’s love for us, a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice, a reminder that we are forgiven, a reminder that we have a future and a hope. But, for many today the cross elicits anger and frustration, to these individuals it is simply a symbol of a specific religious belief and for others it produces no response at all, they are simply indifferent to it. The men and women of Corinth were responding to the cross. Paul lists 3 specific responses to the cross as we close chapter 1 in the book of 1 Corinthians this week and we are left with the question how are we responding to the cross? Join us Sunday as we continue in our study “Made for More.”

Mission Minded

Being on mission with the Gospel means working together to accomplish God’s will. It often means sacrificing our personal wants and desires in order to realize the intended mission outcome of sharing the Gospel. This week Paul challenges each of us as the church, reminding us that like Paul, we were made for more.

A Balancing Act

God’s word commands us to love one another and this week Paul challenges us to consider how that love is to be lived out. Utilizing a controversial issue of his time, eating the meat of sacrificed idols, Paul brings to mind the many gray areas that we face today. Are we willing to put our freedoms aside in order to extend God’s grace to those around us?

Happy New Year! This week we move back into our series “Made for More” a study in the book of 1 Corinthians. As we rejoin the apostle Paul, in the chapter he tackles some questions that many continue to ask today. What do I do with my life? Is there more than this? What career should I pursue? Am I where God wants me? Join us Sunday as we kick off the new year together on mission with the Gospel.
