Acts 17: 15-34

Paul the Apostle was grieved by all that he saw in Athens, but his grief did not lead him to curse the darkness. He was prompted to connect with the people and share the gospel with them. He even quoted their own poets to make his point and call them to repentance saying, "He (God) has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man (Jesus) who he has appointed." (Acts 17:31) Let's allow our disappointments with our world prompt us to share the gospel with others. Pastor Ken

In Edgar Allen Poe’s The Telltale Heart, a murderer thinks he is hearing the sound of his victim’s beating heart hidden beneath the floorboards of his home. He was actually hearing his own heart because of the guilt of his actions and it lead to his capture. In Genesis 42 Joseph’s brothers are confronted with their crime against Joseph. Will their guilt lead to repentance? How will they respond? How do you respond to guilt in your own life? Pastor Stephen

Every journey has a lot of steps from preparation to the actual journey. Any successful trip requires planning and preparation. The wise men journeyed to Jerusalem with intention - "Where is he who is born king of the Jews . . . for we have come to worship him." (Matthew 2:2). They were seeking the Lord - do you in your life? Are you intentional about your relationship with Christ? Make 2020 different. "Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." (Isaiah 55:6) Pastor Ken

Peter tells us to be ready to give anyone an answer for the reason of hope that we have within us. (1 Peter 3:15). Beloved, I believe that our faith can stand up to scrutiny. Many have sought to disprove the gospels only to come to the conclusion that they are true and Christ is the Savior. I am convinced that honest doubts will always be answered and like Thomas, they will bow to the Savior and say, "My Lord and My God!" (John 20:28) Pastor Ken

Merry Christmas - John 1: 1-4

The possibility of God becoming a man seems remote to many. Why would God do such a thing? I like what Malcolm Muggeridge said, "As man alone, Jesus could not have saved us; as God alone, he would not. Incarnate, he could and did. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." (John 1:14) God in Christ makes redemption possible - Let's thank God for his wonderful gift in Jesus! Pastor Ken

Paul the Apostle spent just a few weeks with the believers in Thessalonica, but made a huge impact. Read the first letter to the church there! You will see a depth of commitment both theologically and practically. Paul commended their "work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 1:3) Would to God that we all impacted others with the gospel as the Apostle Paul did! Let's try this week to affect others with the love of Christ so they have faith, hope, and love too. Pastor Ken

Acts 16:16-40

Remember the old adage that says, "No good deed goes unpunished!" We say that when we do something good or nice for someone and we receive the opposite in return. Our frustration begs the question, "Then, why did we do it in the first place?" Was it to get some applause? Incur an obligation in someone? Let's do the right thing regardless of the response because it's the right thing to do and it will glorifies God. (See 1 Peter 3:13-17) Pastor Ken

Genesis 41

At this point in the story Joseph has abused, afflicted, accused and abandoned. It’s not a stretch to say that his life hasn’t gone the way he’d imagined it would! But, “God’s plan for Joseph was on schedule...and because he had learned from each experience...he was ready when God opened the door of opportunity.” -Gene Getz Are you ready for what God has for you? The Psalmist said, "My times are in your hand" (Psalm 31:15) In addition, Paul said, "In him, we live and move and have our being." (Acts 17:28) God directs our paths and brings people into our lives that are ready to hear his voice like he did with Lydia. Who is God preparing to hear his gospel from you in your life? - Pastor Ken

Acts 16:1-5

What would you give up to see a loved one come to Christ? Would your preference or comfort be so important that you would be willing to risk someone's eternal destiny? Paul didn't want anything not even food to get in the way of reaching someone with the gospel. He said, "Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble." (1 Corinthians 8:13) Let's be ready to adjust our lifestyles to impact others with the love of Christ. - Pastor Ken

Conflict is normal within human experience. Every relationship is going to experience conflict. How do we handle it when it comes is the issue. Are you a porcupine? Howard Hendricks said, "Many of us in the church are like porcupines trying to huddle together on a bitter cold night to keep each other warm, but we continually poke and hurt each other the closer we get." We need each other to grow and share the gospel - don't be a porcupine! Pastor Ken

From time to time, we will be confronted with choices that will determine our future. The key is to think through the issues honestly and evaluate the options in front of you. Then, ask yourself, "What would God want me to do in this situation?" Finally, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you move forward so you can say, "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and me to decide to . . ." Pastor Ken

Testimonies are a powerful tool in communicating the gospel. We see the power of this in commercial advertising. Jesus told the demoniac at Gadara, "Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." (Mark 5:19) He went back to his family and told everyone what God did for him. We can do the same - share your story of all that God has done for you! Pastor Ken

Miracles (signs and wonders) - we would all like to see them and maybe, be encouraged by them. They don't seem to happen that often anymore or at least, not as much as in the Bible. C.S. Lewis said, "Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see." I guess they're there – we’ve just got to look for them! Pastor Ken

God has placed us here in Central New York and he has a plan for us. Peter said, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9) We have proclaimed his goodness in the past and we will continue to do so by his grace. Pastor Ken
