Mark 14:32-42

There are times in our lives when we will be alone. Even if others are standing around us, we will be walking alone because they can't feel what we feel at that time. These places are not designed by God to destroy us, but to draw us into deep intimate communion in prayer. "In my distress, I called upon the Lord; to my God, I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice and my cry to him reached his ears." (Psalm 18:6) Pastor Ken

Mark 16:9-20

What comes to mind when I ask you to think of a dog? A cat? Or maybe a sports car? There's a picture in your mind isn't there? What if I ask you to think of a Christian? What or who comes to mind? What characteristics stand out? Gandhi said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." That's hard to read, but it is right in many ways. Christ-likeness must be the dominant characteristic of the Christian. Do others think of you when asked to think of a Christian? -Pastor Ken

Mark 16:1-8

One irrefutable fact about the ministry of Jesus is his resurrection from the dead. That is what makes him distinct from all other faith leaders. Buddha and Mohammed are buried and their tombs are still visited. Dr. Tim Keller said, "If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead." Pastor Ken

Mark 15:33-47

Imagine losing everything that you invested in with no hope of recovery. The disciples and the women who followed Jesus had all their eggs in one basket: the Kingdom of the Messiah. But, now he's dead; now what? The cross didn't kill Christ, but Jesus destroyed death in his death on the cross. We can look back and see God's love in the death of Jesus. "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) Pastor Ken
