Isaiah 30:1-33

Wednesday Evening Service

May 22, 2019

"This chapter is vital for NT believers. I say that because it concerns Israel (northern tribes) turning to Egypt (a type of the world) for protection against the impending
Assyrian invasion under Sennacherib. The reason this is so important is that Israel is
turning to the very people God once delivered them from! Can you see the application? We see too many professing Christians turn time and time again to the world—they also return to that from which they have been delivered! In this study, we see the foolishness of (our polite term) backsliding and, at the end, we see also a gracious, patient God waiting to fight for us once again."

"As we will see, Isaiah was very, very bold. His status as a prophet seems to be beyond all the others. He comports himself with dignity, with love, with passion, and, has the gift of direct. I must also share that modern scholarship (higher criticism; liberal) maintains that Isaiah is a patchwork of writing from many contributors. In other words, the really smart guys have determined that Isaiah didn’t write much of the book! The problem, of course, is that Jesus quotes from every section of Isaiah’s writing while attributing it all to Isaiah. That should (sadly it doesn’t) settle it once and for all. Isaiah wrote Isaiah. "

Isaiah 1:18-31

"I often tell you sin is insane. Nothing is more insane than rejecting a God who reasons with us, as opposed to punishes, when we rebel against Him. He could crush us but He doesn’t. He calls us to a family meeting and He sits us down and asks us to open our minds/hearts for a reasonable discussion. When we refuse to be reasonable with God, the pain in our lives grows beyond our ability to bear..."
