Jonah 3:1-10

The Book of Jonah is a foreshadow of God’s plan of redemption by grace through faith in Christ (the gospel of grace). As Jonah was three days and nights in the belly of the fish, so too was Jesus in the grave prior to His resurrection. As Jonah was called to reconcile non-Jewish sinners to God, so too was Jesus called to reconcile the world [Jn. 3:16]. As Jonah delivered a message of future judgment, so too did Jesus [Matt. 25]. Similarly, both Jonah’s and Jesus’ ministry results in: reconciliation, repentance, and revival. Let’s consider Jonah’s recommission and proclaim God’s message. Jesus followers are called to make disciples who love God supremely and love neighbors like they love themselves (Matt. 28:18-20, 22:37-39). These are the great commandments and commission which are the essence of our mission. Today, we discover how to please God, be content, and impact eternity by living on mission. Drawing close to God and yielding to His authority is where you will experience your greatest contentment. It is likely that as events unfold in our lives and we encounter different challenges and seasons that some will drift from God, and some may find themselves in a season of rebellion to God’s authority. Once we realize our spiritual condition, how can we discover God’s restoration and renewal? Post service worship music used by permission from Adam Cappa.
