Christ's faithfulness to Christians is not contingent on their faithfulness to Him. God is faithful because that is who He is and He cannot deny Himself. So, we can have spiritual rest in that promise, and that will lead into our obedience and service to Him.
Inheritance

This is a focus on the allotment of land to the Israelite tribes. This was the fulfillment of God's promises to Abraham that his descendants would inherit the promised land. God's eternal kingdom became the promised inheritance of all the redeemed.
Capturing the Heartland

5 Amorite Kings allied together and attacked the Gibeonites after learning about their peace treaty with Israel. Joshua would not forsake them when the Gibeonites ask him for help. It was his duty to defend the afflicted who were brought into trouble on the account of Israel. It was also the duty of the Lord to fight for Israel, because of His love and faithfulness to His people.
