Introduction to Titus

*The ministry of the Apostle Paul was one of continual preaching Jesus as Messiah, teaching the converts, checking on the Churches, which meant he had to travel. In order for him to be able to do this, he relied on faithful men of God to help him love and feed God’s people the word of God.  *Titus, who was a Greek, was one of the faithful men of God that the Apostle Paul could depend on to minister to the various churches, such as Corinth and Crete. *The Church probably started after Pentecost, Acts 2:11. Some Jews were saved in Jerusalem and then returned home to the island of Crete. *Crete referred to their island as the island of the gods, and proclaimed that Zeus was born there. *Today, Crete is the largest and most populous Greek island. It is almost 100 miles off the southern coast of Greece. It’s about 160 miles long by about 40 miles wide. *It appears that there were house churches spread out across the island. *Paul wrote this pastoral letter to Titus, to encourage him, and to instruct him on church related issues, such as, appointing church leaders, overseeing what the church taught, and encouraging good works from the Church (6x). *It was probably written about the same time that the apostle Paul wrote his first letter to Timothy (AD64-66).
