Philippians 3:12-21 "Pressing Towards The Prize"

Today we'll be looking at how Paul will make it clear that though he is not perfect nor has he attained perfection that he is forgetting what is behind and pressing forward to those things which are ahead. We'll see Paul weep as he speaks of those that are enemies of the cross and then he'll remind the church in Philippi that they are citizens of heaven rather than of this world. Philippians 2:19-30 "Men Who Laid Down Their Lives"

This morning we'll look at two men that chose to lay down their lives and their ambitions and gave their efforts to bless and minister to Paul. First, We'll look at Timothy who is said to be a son in the faith to Paul who had proved his character. Then we'll look at Epaphroditus who was said to be a brother, a fellow worker and a fellow soldier to Paul. This week Paul will exhort the church in Philippi in several ways. He will tell them that complaining and disputing must be absent from the believers life. He will speak of the need to hold on to the Word of life. He will talk about how we are to shine as lights as we live in a crooked and perverse generation. Philippians 2:1-11 "Jesus Our Great Example"

This week Paul will continue to encourage this church to have unity as he states that the believers in Philippi should not be filled with selfish ambition or conceit and that they should consider others better than themselves. Paul will then speak of Jesus our great example and how He left glory to come and serve those He came in contact with and then humbled Himself to the death of the cross. Then we'll see that Jesus is highly exalted above all other names and that at His name every knee shall bow and tongue confess. This week we'll finish chapter 1 of Philippians and we'll ask the question for you what does it mean to live? We'll see the example of Paul and how he consistently lived in a way that said his life was about Christ...and if he died he knew that it was gain. We'll also talk about the need to live life in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Today we'll begin our study in the book of Philippians and this week we'll look at an introduction to Paul's relationship with the church in Philippi. This letter written by Paul as he was on house arrest in Rome is a great encouragement to believers today that no matter what happens we can walk in the joy of Jesus.
