58. Romans 6:3-6 | Final
Calvary Chapel Elk Grove
Pastor Phil Ballmaier
7-24-24
Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 6. In Romans 6 we learn that because of the finished work on the Cross that sin no longer has ahold of us. That we've been free from the power of sin and death! Does that mean that because grace abounds we should sin more because it's covered? Absolutely not! Because of this freedom we should want to live more for Him!
In Romans, Chapters 3-5 we learn that we are free from the penalty of sin. The theme was Justification (salvation)—as a Christian this refers to my position before God—the emphasis here is on being.
Now, in Romans Chapters 6-8 we will learn that we are free from the power of sin. The theme we'll see through these chapters is Sanctification—this refers to my practice for God—the emphasis here is on doing.

Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. So if he shared the Gospel there, whomever received it would carry God's Word, and the testimonies of Paul and the work they'd seen done out into the four corners of the world.
Often referred to as the Gospel according to Paul, and the greatest book ever written, Paul's letter to the Romans will become our focus as Pastor Phil continues to lead us through the Word of God.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 5. Romans 5 is an amplification of the last 2 words of Romans 4: “Our justification”—and explains two basic truths: ‘The Blessings of Justification’; ‘The Basis for our Justification.’
God had created a perfect world. It was represented in the Garden of Eden, but when Adam & Eve sinned, it corrupted mankind then and for all to come, including us. So then what could the remedy be? Was there hope for sinful mankind? Yes! And it came through one Man. The Son of Man, Jesus Christ.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 5. Romans 5 is an amplification of the last 2 words of Romans 4: “Our justification”—and explains two basic truths: ‘The Blessings of Justification’; ‘The Basis for our Justification.’
When we are saved by faith in Christ, He has also made us justified and pure in the eyes of the Father. Jesus made the way for Him to look at us through the finished work of Jesus. This means not only can we have a relationship with God, but we are also saved from the wrath of sin... and our eternity has been made secure by Jesus.
Is it because we are good? Or because we are perfect? Absolutely not - its' because He is, and when we choose Him as our Savior, we take on His righteousness. We are sinners saved by grace. His sacrifice shows us that His love is higher than the greatest heights, and deeper than the deepest depths. We are justified by faith, not of ourselves, lest one of us should boast.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 5. Romans 5 is an amplification of the last 2 words of Romans 4: “Our justification”—and explains two basic truths: ‘The Blessings of Justification’; ‘The Basis for our Justification.’
In today's verses we are given some of the greatest promises in the Bible to assure our eternal standing, when we are in Christ.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Is it because we are good? Or because we are perfect? Absolutely not - its' because He is, and when we choose Him as our Savior, we take on His righteousness. His sacrifice shows us that His love is higher than the greatest heights, and deeper than the deepest depths. We are justified by faith, not of ourselves, lest one of us should boast.

Tonight Pastor Phil shares how we can see God's hand in our lives and that He uses various situations and trials to produce in us His attributes. That because we've been justified by faith, He equips us to withstand tribulations, and in it He produces perseverance; and character, and through it—hope. We can be thankful that God knows what we need, and when we need it to grow in Him! May we draw on His strength and cling to Him so that He may do His perfect work, in and through us.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 5. Romans 5 is an amplification of the last 2 words of Romans 4: “Our justification”—and explains two basic truths: ‘The Blessings of Justification’; ‘The Basis for our Justification.’
Tonight he touches on the grace of God, as outlined in several areas of scripture. God is the God of all grace, and we are the recipients of such great compassion and love. God's Riches at Christ's Expense. We've been given peace with God, access to God and a standing with God because of the great sacrifice at Christ's expense.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 5, as he teaches on Justification by Faith and the freedom that comes through Jesus, versus the Law. It is through His finished work on the Cross that we are redeemed, and sanctified - it is a gift of God, so that no one can boast in their own works to earn it.
He didn't say, I came to save the 'do-gooder, or religion-keeper'— contrary - He came to save the lost sinner, of which we all are.

Tonight Pastor Phil begins Romans, Chapter 5, as he continues to teach on Justification by Faith. He touched on Condemnation that came through the Law, and the power of God's Word to save through freedom in Christ, and His finished work on the Cross. Tonight we continue in the section of scripture where Paul points out justification by faith comes in trusting in Jesus and the qualities of true saving faith.
Righteousness can only come from Jesus, and His finished work, not being a deed keeper or religion— to be made right with God, we need to be reconciled to Him through Jesus... It's a gift, and not earned.
