2 Peter 3 vs 14-18

Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 1 - 2 Again, as we have discussed in the past, this “woe” isn’t necessarily punishment or direct judgement from God but simply that this decision of behavior does and will bring woe upon the spirit of the person doing these things. Listen, we have to know this, unrighteousness distresses, (a good Biblical word is appropriate here – vexes), the spirit. Following the Lord and obeying His will and commands is not just for the square who never wants to have any fun! Something in us rejects being told what is right and what to do but the fact and truth is that unrighteousness brings woe and obedience to God increases our spirit (in terms of joy and goodness and refreshing).Romans 15:13 says, “God is the God of hope and it is He that fills you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Ecclesiastes 2:26 says, “For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God.”So, yea, you have a propensity to gossip, you constantly think about yourself and not others, you lose your temper, your increasingly are easily frustrated with your co-workers and give them a piece of your mind… All of those things…they bring woe upon your spirit and that ditch of self-loathing you have just gets deeper because you yourself refuse to submit to God and call upon Him to change you, which he CAN and WOULD do… Here’s a new thought… Walk away from woe! Why allow it or even welcome it into your spirit!? I hate depression, feeling down, frustrated, impatient, arrogant and quick-tempered! I love feeling strong in joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control! Don’t you! Well, we can’t will our hearts to be that or feel that…we must walk away from woe…and choose to obey God in the things that are actually against our spirit even though that outburst of wrath in the moment may feel good… Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 3 – 4 I mean that’s the thing right there! The trade-off. We are so rebellious to not “bow down” to anyone but the reality is that I can either bow to the King of Kings or I will end up bowing among prisoners. Either path is difficult, by the way. Choose to serve the Lord and there will be sacrifice as you check yourself before you wreck yourself… But choose to serve the flesh and man will conflict, complexity and consternation (now that’s good alliteration!) follow you around and stick to you like glue. It will be who you will become!Psalm 34:19-22 says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” So, choose your affliction. Choose wisely and the outcome is great. Choose fleshly and the outcome is…well, that’s why so many today have lives in such disarray! And man, here’s the point, a life and a heart and a spirit heavy with disorder, condemnation and scandal and irritation cannot bring glory to God and certainly cannot bring or attract others to the Lord!Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 5 – 7 God essentially using even those that deny Him without them knowing… Happens every day…Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 8 – 11 What’s happening here is that we are getting a bit of a perspective of what is in the mind of the Assyrian king. Fundamentally, he thinks nothing of the God of Jerusalem, comparing their God to the gods of the kingdoms he has already overcome and even calling the God of Jerusalem an idol.Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 12 – 15 I love this! God, speaking through Isaiah, uses the examples of the ax, the saw, the rod and the staff to make the rather obvious point that the tool should never be given the credit for what the worker has done with it!As awesome as it is to be used by God and to have His favor and hand on your work, you have got to remember, says clearly in James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights!” Great that you can sing, great that you can teach, great that you can evangelize, great that you can administrate…GREAT, but it’s not me or you who should glory in our greatness but rather we should acknowledge that man I’m just an ax, a saw, a rod, a staff… Useless unless I’m in the hands of the Worker!What’s even more, so you can sing? You have that gift? Then you’re supposed to sing unto the glory of God. So, you can administrate? So, you’re smart? So, you’re strong? Can lift 50 pounds? You’re supposed to then! Don’t get all proud when you do what you’re supposed to do!? Imagine, an ax, “Look at me, I’m axing!” You’re supposed to…you’re an ax! Here’s the wake-up call…Jesus said in Luke 17:10, “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do!” So how do you become profitable servants of God…? Do something BY FAITH! Sacrifice and step OUT of your comfort zone… Become a multi-tool for GOD! YES!!! Swiss army knife! (The Bathroom Buddy! HA! Gremlins – 1984) Doing what you are talented and gifted and wanting to do alone? Man, you’re just axing, sawing…you’re supposed to do that. Do something more if you really want to please the Lord!Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 16 – 27 This is an interesting promise. You are going to go through this…because at the present, you have not the heart to trust in Me. But as a result of this, there will be a remnant, a part of you that will learn to trust the Lord. And through that remnant, who came about through the hardship of tragedy, the yoke and burden will lift from you. The same for us. But don’t waste a good crisis. Don’t harden your heart but even in the midst of great hardship and even looking back on hardship of your past, let it be used by God to bring you close to Him. That’s really the only point of it all anyway… Don’t miss the point.Isaiah Chapter 10 Verses 28 – 34 Nob is as far as the Assyrian army would progress against Judah during this siege. It would be there that they would be defeated by the Lord, just as Isaiah had prophesied.But as we close our time of study, I’d like to direct your focus to one statement. “The haughty will be humbled.” That is perhaps one of the greatest statements of hope found in all of scripture for the people of God. For the nation of Israel then, for the child of God today. As you trust in the Lord, as you weather the storms of difficult days, situations and difficult people, remember, God is the Worker and every person that walks in pride will be brought very very low. So low that (by you knowing that as fact) in this  moment, the moment, they should even be pitied. In that, I take great hope and hold great confidence in the King of kings. 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 14 · Mantenga la "paz" y "sin mancha y sin culpa" a un lado por un momento porque ninguna de esas cosas está siquiera en el ámbito de lo alcanzable sin ser diligente. La diligencia se define como tener o mostrar cuidado y conciencia en el trabajo o deberes de uno. Permítanme usar la palabra en una oración. Pero los que somos del día seamos sobrios, poniéndonos la coraza de la fe y el amor, y como un casco la esperanza de la salvación. Porque Dios no nos designó para la ira, sino para obtener la salvación a través de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que murió por nosotros, para que ya sea que despertemos o durmamos, vivamos juntos con Él. Por lo tanto, consuélense unos a otros y edifiquen unos a otros, tal como también lo están haciendo". · ¿Qué clase de personas debemos ser? Gente de fe, gente de amor, viviendo con la sólida esperanza de salvación. Y eso, honestamente, debería hacernos reconfortantes y edificantes los unos con los otros. No solo en amabilidad y empatía, sino en diligencia y fidelidad. Como, diligentes en términos de ser reconfortantes y edificantes el uno con el otro. Tener o mostrar cuidado y conciencia en el trabajo o los deberes de uno en términos de ser alguien que trae consuelo a otro y edificación. Así es como debemos ser... · Un día, dando una lección en la universidad, Albert Einstein escribió en la pizarra: 9x1=9. 9x2=18. 9x3=27. 9x4=36. 9x5=45. 9x6=54. 9x7=63. 9x8=72. 9x9=81. 9x10=91. De repente, hubo casi un caos en el aula mientras los estudiantes se reían y se señalaban unos a otros que el gran Albert Einstein estaba equivocado. Obviamente había cometido un error. Einstein esperó a que todos se callaran y dijo: "Aunque había respondido correctamente las primeras nueve ecuaciones, nadie me felicitó, pero cuando me equivoqué, todos tuvieron que hacer algo al respecto". · Un lado de esa historia nos enseña que incluso si eres una persona exitosa, las personas notarán el error más pequeño y lo disfrutarán. Y que la única persona que no comete un error es la que no hace nada. Pero el otro lado de esa historia nos enseña, o mejor nos revela, que es TAN fácil criticar y corregir ... Es el deleite de nuestra naturaleza caída mostrarse superior a otra ... Se necesita diligencia, cuidado intenso y conciencia para aplaudir las 9 ecuaciones correctas y pasar por alto un error en otros. Pero ESO es semejanza a Cristo y cuando vemos que el día del Señor se acerca, ¡EXACTAMENTE cómo deberíamos ser! · Pablo habla de diligencia en la esperanza, la fidelidad, el amor... y eso hace que nosotros, tú y yo, no solo estemos bien preparados para la venida del Señor, sino que el hombre esté bien preparado para servir al Señor incluso hoy... Y aquí hay un pequeño secreto. No necesitamos poner nuestros corazones a la disciplina en la diligencia. Eso simplemente sucederá si estamos acelerando la llegada de ese día, si la esperanza de nuestra salvación es una realidad diaria en nuestro corazón de corazones. si nuestras prioridades son apropiadas para la verdad y la realidad! 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículos 15 – 16 · Siempre hay esos y realmente siempre momentos en la vida de todos los creyentes donde torcemos la verdad y la palabra de Dios para acomodar nuestra baja vida ... Pero lo hacemos para nuestra propia destrucción. Y recuerde esto, el hecho de que las Escrituras pueden ser torcidas significa que no todos los que citan las Escrituras están diciendo la verdad ... · Y este es un par de declaraciones interesantes de Pedro. Pedro y Pablo tenían sus diferencias. Algunos se insinúan aquí y también sabemos que en un momento hubo una confrontación muy pública donde Pablo reprendió. Pedro (Gálatas 2). Pero note la madurez y la visión de Pedro aquí mientras alaba a Pablo ... Poniendo realmente en exhibición el "consuelo y edificante el uno del otro" siendo diligente ... Un éxito rotundo de un hombre ... Prioridades alineadas con las del Señor... aplaudiendo todas las ecuaciones correctas, pasando por alto la única ofensa ... 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículos 17 – 18 · ("Cuidado" es la palabra "estar en guardia". Y "error" es la palabra "vagar" o “errante” que se muestra en el resultado) · Note que no es crecer en devoción, crecer en madurez, sabiduría, servicio, asistencia a la iglesia, memorización de las Escrituras ...es crecer en gracia. Las riquezas de Dios a expensas de Cristo. Quiero recordarles lo que Pedro escribió al comienzo de esta carta final suya, en 2 Pedro 1: 2-3, "La gracia y la paz se multipliquen para ustedes en el conocimiento de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor, como su poder divino nos ha dado todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad, por el conocimiento de Aquel que nos llamó por gloria y virtud ..." ¿Notas cómo el "conocimiento" como un regalo y un resultado están cubiertos en esa declaración, pero la "gracia" solo se menciona como un regalo? ¿Por qué? Porque la recompensa de la gracia es el "poder divino" de Dios en tu vida. · El poder de caminar en el perdón. El poder de caminar en compasión. El poder de caminar en libertad. El poder de vivir sin condenación. Y en última instancia, el poder para vencer la tumba que es la paga del pecado y el castigo de la injusticia (en el sentido de que tienes un futuro y una esperanza), ... incluso una dirección en el vecindario de Jesús. Un hogar eterno en los cielos, no construido con manos, sino construido por el corazón de Dios para ti. Todo esto, todo esto, conectado a y debido a la gracia de Dios. · Lo último que Pedro dice, quiere que sepas, lo que ha encontrado, lo que Jesús le mostró a través de todo, la suma total de cada aliento que tomó junto al Señor, cada declaración que Jesús le hizo, cada mirada que Jesús le dio, cada interacción que Pedro presenció, todo lo que Pedro ha sido perdonado y comisionado, la suma total de todo al final de la vida de Pedro, lo que él quiere que sepas, que yo sepa, que la gracia lo es todo. · La gracia de Dios nos salva. La gracia de Dios nos justifica. La gracia de Dios nos santifica. La gracia de Dios nos da poder para servir. ¡La gracia de Dios nos capacita como hombres y mujeres defectuosos para permitir que Jesús continúe Su vida y ministerio en esta planta a través de nosotros! La gracia de Dios nos ha dado todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad, a través del conocimiento de Aquel que nos llamó por gloria y virtud... · Grandes declaraciones aquí con las que creo que Peter estaría de acuerdo...., ¿cuál es el significado de la vida? Vivir cada día en la perfección de la gracia de Dios sobre ti... ¡y todo lo que hacemos fuera de la gracia de Dios no vale nada! · Solía decir que la verdad sin gracia es cruel, y eso es exacto, pero la verdad sin gracia no es verdad en absoluto... eso es lo que digo ahora. Y la gracia sin verdad ni siquiera es posible... Porque en ese momento es otra cosa. Dios es la verdad y la gracia le pertenece sólo a Él. Así que separe la verdad y todo lo que queda es algún tipo de engaño que la gente está llamando gracia. La gracia pertenece a Dios y  Él hoy la extiende de nuevo e incondicionalmente y sin vacilación... hacia ti. · Y para ti, santo experimentado, la gracia no es simplemente cómo Dios nos atrae hacia Él y nos salva, sino que también es el agente por el cual nos mantenemos firmes e inquebrantables a Él, a la verdad, hasta el día, que viene pronto, que Él nos llama a casa. Cristiano, vagabundo, hígado de la vida... ¡No te pierdas el ENFOQUE, LA META! · Entonces, ¿cómo es que tú o yo ganamos este asombroso favor de Dios? Sherlock Holmes y el Dr. Watson decidieron ir de campamento. Después de la cena se acostaron por la noche y se fueron a dormir. Algunas horas más tarde, Holmes se despertó y le dio un codazo a su fiel amigo. "Watson, mira hacia el cielo y dime lo que ves". Watson respondió: "Veo millones de estrellas". "¿Qué te dice eso?" Watson reflexionó durante un minuto. "Astronómicamente, me dice que hay millones de galaxias y potencialmente miles de millones de planetas". "Astrológicamente, observo que Saturno está en Leo". "Horológicamente, deduzco que el tiempo es aproximadamente las tres y cuarto". "Teológicamente, puedo ver que Dios es todopoderoso y que somos pequeños e insignificantes". "Meteorológicamente, sospecho que mañana tendremos un hermoso día". "¿Por qué, ¿qué es lo que te dice a ti Holmes?" Holmes guardó silencio por un minuto, luego habló: "Watson, idiota. ¡Alguien ha robado nuestra tienda!" · Todas las obras, todos los ritos, todas las cosas que amontonamos sobre la simplicidad de recibir la vida eterna a través de la simple fe en Jesucristo... ¿Cómo obtienes esta asombrosa gracia? En el momento en que recibes a Jesús, has recibido la medida completa de la gracia de Dios. No se necesita nada más de tu parte o de la mía que aceptar a Jesús como Pedro dice aquí en esta frase final de su ministerio terrenal, recibir a Jesús como tu Señor y Salvador. Si se necesita más que eso, entonces no es gracia ... · Entonces, ¿qué clase de hombre debo ser para traer gloria a Dios y estar completamente preparado para el Día del Señor? Un hombre que camina en la realidad de la asombrosa gracia de Dios a través de Jesucristo. Priorizar las cosas del Espíritu en mi vida... diligente... viviendo dentro de las leyes y la voluntad de Dios, consolando y edificando hacia los demás, creciendo siempre en la gracia y el conocimiento de Jesús, y sólido en mi esperanza de lo que está por venir.

2 Peter 3 vs 10-14

2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 10 ·    What is “The Day of the Lord?” Thirty-four (34) times you find this phrase in the Bible, twenty-six (26) times in the Old Testament spoken of by folks such as Isaiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Zachariah and Malachi. Eight (8) times we find this term in the New Testament. Once by Luke, (in the Book of Acts), five times by Paul and twice by Peter, and this is interestingly the last mention of this specific phrase in the Bible. ·    Essentially as you read through the context of when and where this phrase is used, its very bad news for the world. Consistent with what Peter is saying here. Heavens pass away, the earth is burnt up, it and everything in it… And so, The Day of the Lord (in one explanation) is a reference to the final scene and moments of this world as we know it. ·    We find this in Revelation Chapter 20 and into 21. Revelation Chapter 20, verses 11 – 15, “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” ·    And we know at this point, what is left of the current heaven and the present earth is consumed as we read in Revelation Chapter 21 Verse 1, “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…” And so, as you read through the description given by the prophets of the Day of the Lord, this is that day… But also, The Day of the Lord, just taken literally, points to the Day of…Jesus. ·    The Day that He was crucified by a world He came to save, and on that day, He was judged. As a thief in the night, He was tried by His accusers. On that day, the King of Heaven and earth passed away, and as He rendered His Spirit from His body, the earth shook with a the great noise of an earthquake…and on that day, my sin, your sin, my punishment, really my justice, melted away, burned up, being totally consumed and overwhelmed by the perfect and yet human blood of Jesus. ·    And so, the coming Day of the Lord spoken of by the prophets and by Paul and by Peter is the consequence of in fact missing and rejecting the Day the Lord that has already come… And that is what we read in Revelation 20…that instead of being forgiven of your works, they are examined… ·    And Peter writes here something that has caused many to stumble but there’s no reason to… That the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. That is not saying that Jesus is a thief, unless you count stealing my sins (HA), this just simply indicates that when the Lord returns, many will be taken by surprise and that makes me a little giddy. Why? Because the days in which anyone would be surprised that the world is coming to an end, those days in light of current world conditions…those days are running out if not already gone! ·    But this taken by surprise, understand this is not the church. This is not the Bride of Christ, watching every day for the return of her promised groom! Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5:1-6, “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” Which is exactly Peter’s next statement… 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 11 – 14a ·    This whole system, this country, this state, this city, this house, this job, will all end one day, it all has an expiration date, so how then should we conduct ourselves? If everything that is material is going to pass away, then I would be a fool to focus solely on the material side of life. If you count your wealth by your material possessions, earthly/worldly success, position and power in your profession, or by your good looks, your svelte physique, smooth skin, perfect eye-lashes, (pumps and a bumps for all my 90’s people [HA]), and all of those things are going to dissolve, then you are a fool! In the end you will have absolutely nothing! (Chuck Smith new car story) ·    And this is the reason why so many beautiful people struggle so much internally, mentally, relationally and even spiritually. The answer to Peter’s question is simple. If the spirit is what will endure, then we should be people that prioritize walking in the spirit in front of existing in the physical! And the Bible promises throughout…that is actually a secret and key to being beautiful people not only on the outside but also on the inside! And beautiful people on the inside are filled with love, joy, peace, kindness, longsuffering, goodness, patience, and self-control. We call that character! ·    This may the main issue in many lives this morning. You love the Lord, you believe in Jesus with all of your heart, and yet you live after the flesh, not in a sinful way, but in a way of priority. And because of that one thing out of order, everything else is affected. ·    I was driving to work on Friday and it was cold. I left the house before 7am and it was probably about 25 degrees. So, I had my seat warmer on, (you know, baking the buns), and I had the heat on and about 20 minutes into my drive, I was like, “man it’s cold outside! I am still cold.” So, I continued on for a while until I noticed I had left my sunroof cracked open the night before and the heat was apparently leaking out. So, I closed that and within 2 minutes my car was toasty!! And that is like so many lives. Such spiritual understanding and love for the Lord and Christian through and through, but never heating up for the Lord because the priority of life is out of whack! 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 14 ·    Hold “peace” and “without spot and blameless” aside for just a moment because none of those things are even in the realm of reachable without being diligent. Diligence is defined as having or showing care and conscientiousness in one’s work or duties. Allow me to use the word in a sentence. “Frankie found where many caves are located after a diligent search.” Let me restate diligence in a different light. Diligence is enabled through appropriate priority, and that’s it. ·    So much struggle ensues really from a problem with diligence. Back in 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul continues in verses 6-11, “Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” ·    What manner of persons ought we to be, honestly, comforting and edifying towards one another. Not just in kindness and empathy but in diligence and faithfulness. Paul talks about diligence in hope, faithfulness, love…and that causes us, you and I, to not only be well prepared for the coming of the Lord but man just well prepared to serve the Lord even today… And here’s a bit of a secret. We don’t need to set our hearts to discipline in diligence. That will simply happen if we are hastening the coming of that day, if our priorities are appropriate to truth and reality! 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 15 – 16 ·    There are always those and really always times in the lives of all believers where we twist the truth and word of God to accommodate our low living… But we do it to our own destruction. And remember this, the fact that scripture can be twisted means that not everyone that is quoting scripture is speaking the truth… ·    And this is an interesting couple of statements by Peter. Peter and Paul had their differences. Some are hinted at here and we also know that at one point there was a very public confrontation where Paul rebuked Peter (Galatians 2). But notice the maturity and vision of Peter here as he praises Paul… Putting really on display the “comforting and edifying of one another” himself being diligent… A screaming success of a man… Priorities aligned to those of the Lord. 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 17 – 18 ·    It’s not grow in devotion, grow in maturity, wisdom, service, church attendance, scripture memorization…its grow in grace. Grace is everything. God’s truth and your salvation…all founded upon and baselined in grace. And for you seasoned saint, grace isn’t merely how God draws us to Himself and saves us, but it is also the agent by which we hold steadfast to Him, to the truth, until the day, coming soon, that He calls us home. ·    So, what kind of man ought I be in order to bring glory to God and fully prepared for the Day of the Lord? A man that prioritizes the things of the Spirt in my life…diligent…living within the laws and will of God, comforting and edifying towards others, ever growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  

2 Peter 3 vs 5-9

2 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 5 – 7 • Ok, first of all these verses make clear that the active agent in creation was and is the Word of God. He spoke and creation came forth. Call it the Big Bang…all good…but this is how it all began. God spoke and it was created. Colossians 1:16 says, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” • And truly if you can receive by faith the first sentence of the Bible then the rest of it should be no problem… Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” If you can settle on believing that, because whatever you believe for how we got here and where we came from, whatever you believe is going to take faith, if you can settle on God being big enough for Genesis 1:1, then the rest of the Bible should be no sweat. • But why do things have millions and billions of years of age then? Well, that’s debatable but lets just accept that statement at face value for a moment. What does Peter say here? “By the word of God, the heavens were of old.” Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image.” Was Adam created a baby or a man? Clearly, he was created as full-grown man. How old was Adam on his first day of life? One day old. But…he was a man. God can create with the appearance of age. In fact, that’s the way the Bible lays out creation, just look at Adam. And that’s only one way to Biblically answer that question. There are others. • Enough to say that it takes faith. Creation through random occurrence or creation through the Creator, both are going to take faith… But what Peter is talking about here is that those who scoff at the message of the return of Christ forget how suddenly they can personally be destroyed! Christ may not return for another 100 years, but all of us are going to return to Him before then! • And Peter points to the flood to make this point. That God preserved, He tarried, until the day He didn’t, which caught everyone on the earth but 8 souls by storm (pun intended). Now, lets look at the flood for just a minute because I have been surprised many times over the years at how little this is understood. The physicality of the flood itself. • Genesis Chapter 1 verses 6-8, on the second day of creation we read, “The God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus, God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So, the evening and the morning were the second day.” • This is not the heaven in terms of the dwelling place of God and the heavenly host, first of all that must be understood. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:2, “I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago, whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows, such a one was caught up in the third heaven.” And then in 2 Corinthians 12:4, “How he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words…” And so, we know this “third” heaven is the dwelling place of God, the heaven of heavens. • Ok so understand, the first heaven, the heaven spoken of in Genesis Chapter 1, the heaven that separated the waters from the waters, is the immediate blue sky we see today. The second heaven is the planetary heaven, the black. And the third heaven is the heaven of heavens, the spiritual dwelling place of the spiritual God. Alright, back to Genesis. • So, according to Genesis Chapter 1, there was, at the beginning of creation, some sort of water canopy that was above the blue sky. And this would have created a uniform climate condition upon the entire world. The entire world would have been a type of green house and through this we have explanation for all sorts of seemingly unexplainable historical facts. For example, how is it that we have fossilized woolly mammoths in Antarctica with fresh vegetation found in their mouths and bellies? Which we have… • Also, we read of pre-flood Bible characters such as Methuselah who lived 969 years! Enoch who lived 365 years. Lamech who lived 777 years, Adam and Seth who lived over 900 years each! But then we read in preparation for the flood, in Genesis 6:3, “The Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Then, next up…the Ark. You see, this water canopy…well, why do we age? Like physically? At least a part of it is due to mutation from the effects of UV rays, radiation from the sun. But during the time before the flood, none of that to deal with…and so people would have aged much much slower… • And so, put it all together, what happened at the worldwide flood of Noah? The original earth was watered by a mist each morning according to Genesis Chapter 2. No instance of rain recorded in the Bible prior to the flood. Noah, it says of his faith in Hebrews 11:7 that, “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark…” Constant environmental stability for over a thousand years… And then, one day, God removes his hand from the water canopy and it collapses. Raining for a full 40 days, and the rain was so intense and voluminous, the entire earth was covered with the water. This is why we have fossilized fish on Mount Everest! • Now, coming back to 2 Peter, if the earth did not experience rain before the Flood, then Noah's ark-building must have appeared especially foolish to his critics (scoffers), …and that is the point that Peter is making. It’s really all about and comes down to faith and a personal decision to trust the Lord. I would argue there is ample evidence to do so, personally… 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 8 • This verse puts on display the enormity of otherness of God! Spurgeon wrote, “All things are equally near and present in His view. With God there is no past, present, nor future. He takes for His name the “I am.” Just as we say of God that He is everywhere, so we may say of Him that He is always. He is everywhere in time.” • Some have applied this eschatologically and while it is, in my opinion, a somewhat loose application, I see it and so I’ll share it with you as well. Throughout the Bible there is a pattern of completion revolving around the number 7. Seven days in a week. The Lord worked through creation for six days and on the seventh He rested. He instituted the Sabbath day through His own example, that under the Old Covenant, we were to work six days and rest on the seventh. In that day, no work was to be done. According to Deuteronomy 15, at the end of every seven years the people were even to forgive each other of any debts… • There are so many examples of seven being significant for completion in the Bible that it would overtake our entire time of study to talk about them all such as Jesus making seven statements from the cross, Jesus writing to seven churches in Revelation, seven trumpets, seven bowl judgments, on an on…. And so, some say ok, if a thousand years is as one day to God, then by calculating through generations given to us from Adam in the Bible, we are in year (roughly) 6,030, or, the seventh day…and therefore we are in the millennial timeline of the return of the Lord. I don’t need numerological acrobatics to tell me that! HA! But anyway, interesting if you’re into that… 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 9 • This is the revelation and reason for why God hasn’t yet called a stop to all of this mess! The sole purpose is to allow us as much time as possible to get saved! Many of those who are Christians today are happy that Jesus didn’t return last year, five years ago, ten years ago…, for me, 17 years ago. Or I’d be lost! So, this is why God tarries! • And let me just say, this slaps right across the chops the doctrine and soteriology presented by hyper Calvinism. You may not know what that is and that’s ok… But hyper Calvinism, sometimes referred to as just Calvinism, Reformed Theology, Hyper Grace…essentially teaches that you didn’t choose God in any way shape or form. That God alone chose you and that due to His choosing you, there is and was no way for you to not choose Him. It’s known as irresistible grace. That some are chosen by God for heaven and subsequently some are therefore chosen by God for hell. • But read this line again in 2 Peter. “Not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance.” The truth of the scripture is that you and I have a responsibility, as decreed through the gift of free will, to either believe on Jesus for our salvation and receive the Holy Spirit of promise, or reject faith in Jesus and remain in our sin. God has ALREADY chosen you. For God so loved the world that He gave His Son that whosever, everyone, anyone, you and me and all of us, if we would believe in Him, we would not perish but have everlasting life! 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículos 5 – 7 · Ok, en primer lugar estos versículos dejan claro que el agente activo en la creación fue y es la Palabra de Dios. Puede que Cristo no regrese por otros 100 años, ¡pero todos nosotros vamos a regresar a Él antes de eso! · Y Pedro señala el diluvio para hacer este punto. Que Dios preservó, se detuvo, hasta el día en que no lo hizo, lo que tomó a todos en la tierra excepto a 8 almas por asalto (juego de palabras). Ahora , echemos un vistazo a la inundación por un minuto porque me he sorprendido muchas veces a lo largo de los años de lo poco que se entiende esto. La fisicalidad del diluvio mismo. · Génesis capítulo 1 versículos 6-8, en el segundo día de la creación leemos: "El Dios dijo: "Que haya un firmamento en medio de las aguas, y que divida las aguas de las aguas". Así, Dios hizo el firmamento, y dividió las aguas que estaban bajo el firmamento de las aguas que estaban sobre el firmamento; Y así fue. Y Dios llamó al firmamento Cielo. Entonces, la tarde y la mañana fueron el segundo día". · Este no es el cielo en términos de la morada de Dios y la hueste celestial, en primer lugar eso debe ser entendido. Pablo dijo en 2 Corintios 12:2: "Conozco a un hombre en Cristo que hace catorce años, ya sea en el cuerpo que no conozco, o si del cuerpo no conozco, Dios sabe, tal fue arrebatado en el tercer cielo". Y luego en 2 Corintios 12: 4, "Cómo fue arrebatado al Paraíso y oyó palabras inefables ..." Y así, sabemos que este "tercer" cielo es la morada de Dios, el cielo de los cielos. · Ok, así que entiendan, el primer cielo, el cielo del que se habla en Génesis capítulo 1, el cielo que separaba las aguas de las aguas, es el cielo azul inmediato que vemos hoy. El segundo cielo es el cielo planetario, el negro. Y el tercer cielo es el cielo de los cielos, la morada espiritual del Dios espiritual. Muy bien, volvamos al Génesis. · Entonces, según Génesis capítulo 1, había, al comienzo de la creación, una especie de dosel de agua que estaba sobre el cielo azul. Y esto habría creado una condición climática uniforme en todo el mundo. El mundo entero habría sido una especie de invernadero y a través de esto tenemos una explicación para todo tipo de hechos históricos aparentemente inexplicables. Por ejemplo, ¿cómo es que tenemos ¿Mamuts lanudos fosilizados en la Antártida con vegetación fresca encontrada en sus bocas y vientres? Que tenemos... · Además, leemos sobre personajes bíblicos anteriores al diluvio como Matusalén, ¡que vivió 969 años! Enoc que vivió 365 años. Lamec que vivió 777 años, Adán y Set que vivieron más de 900 años cada uno! Pero luego leemos en preparación para el diluvio, en Génesis 6:3, "Jehová dijo: "Mi Espíritu no peleará con el hombre para siempre, porque ciertamente es carne; sin embargo, sus días serán ciento veinte años". Entonces, a continuación ... el Arca. Verás, este dosel de agua ... Bueno, ¿por qué envejecemos? ¿Físicamente? Al menos una parte de ella se debe a la mutación de los efectos de los rayos UV, la radiación del sol. Pero durante el tiempo anterior al diluvio, nada de eso para lidiar ... Y así la gente habría envejecido mucho más lento ... · Y así, póngalo todo junto, ¿qué sucedió en el diluvio mundial de Noé? Estabilidad ambiental constante durante más de mil años... Y entonces, un día, Dios quita su mano del dosel de agua y se derrumba. Llovía durante 40 días completos, y la lluvia era tan intensa y voluminosa, que toda la tierra estaba cubierta con el agua. ¡Es por eso que hemos fosilizado peces en el Monte Everest! · Ahora, volviendo a 2 Pedro, si la tierra no experimentó lluvia antes del Diluvio, entonces la construcción del arca de Noé debe haber parecido especialmente tonta a sus críticos (burladores), ... y ese es el punto que Pedro está haciendo. Realmente se trata de la fe y la decisión personal de confiar en el Señor. Yo diría que hay amplia evidencia para hacerlo, personalmente ... 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 8 · ¡Este versículo pone en exhibición la enormidad de la alteridad de Dios! Spurgeon escribió: "Todas las cosas están igualmente cerca y presentes en Su opinión. Con Dios no hay pasado, presente ni futuro. Él toma por Su nombre el "Yo soy". Así como decimos de Dios que Él está en todas partes, así también podemos decir de Él que Él siempre está. Él está en todas partes en el tiempo". · Algunos han aplicado esto escatológicamente y aunque es, en mi opinión, una aplicación algo floja, la veo y por eso la compartiré con ustedes también. A lo largo de la Biblia hay un patrón de finalización que gira alrededor del número 7. Siete días en una semana. El Señor obró a través de la creación durante seis días y en el séptimo descansó. Él instituyó el día de reposo a través de Su propio ejemplo, que bajo el Antiguo Pacto, debíamos trabajar seis días y descansar en el séptimo. En ese día, no había que hacer ningún trabajo. Según Deuteronomio 15, al final de cada siete años la gente debía incluso perdonarse mutuamente de cualquier deuda ... · Hay tantos ejemplos de siete que son significativos para completar en la Biblia que superaría todo nuestro tiempo de estudio hablar de todos ellos, como Jesús haciendo siete declaraciones desde la cruz, Jesús escribiendo a siete iglesias en Apocalipsis, siete trompetas, siete tazones de jucio, así uno tras otro.... Y así, algunos dicen que está bien, si mil años es como un día para Dios, entonces calculando a través de las generaciones que nos dio Adán en la Biblia, estamos en el año (aproximadamente) 6,030, o, el séptimo día ... y por lo tanto estamos en la línea de tiempo milenaria del regreso del Señor. ¡No necesito acrobacias numerológicas para decirme eso! ¡Ja! Pero de todos modos, interesante si te gusta eso ... 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 9 · ¡Esta es la revelación y la razón por la cual Dios aún no ha puesto fin a todo este lío! ¡El único propósito es permitirnos el mayor tiempo posible para ser salvos! Muchos de los que son cristianos hoy están felices de que Jesús no haya regresado el año pasado, hace cinco años, hace diez años..., para mí, hace 17 años. ¡O estaría perdido! Entonces, ¡es por eso que Dios se demora! · Y permítanme decir, esto golpea la doctrina y la soteriología presentadas por el hipercalvinismo. Puede que no sepas qué es eso y está bien... Pero el hipercalvinismo, a veces referido simplemente como calvinismo, teología reformada, hipergracia ... esencialmente enseña que no elegiste a Dios de ninguna manera. Que solo Dios te eligió a ti y que debido a que Él te escogió, no hay y no había manera de que no lo eligieras a Él. Se conoce como gracia irresistible. Que algunos son escogidos por Dios para el cielo y posteriormente algunos son elegidos por Dios para el infierno. · Pero lee esta línea de nuevo en 2 Pedro. "No queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que TODOS vengan al arrepentimiento". La verdad de la escritura es que tú y yo tenemos la responsabilidad, según lo decretado a través del don del libre albedrío, de creer en Jesús para nuestra salvación y recibir el Espíritu Santo de la promesa, o rechazar la fe en Jesús y permanecer en nuestro pecado. Dios YA te ha elegido. Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo para que quienquiera que sea, todos, cualquiera, tú y yo y todos nosotros, si creyéramos en Él, ¡no pereceríamos, sino que tendríamos vida eterna!  

2 Peter 3 vs 1-7

2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 1 • How many of you have “pure” minds this morning? No fear, no fret, no lust, no selfishness… And yet Peter almost conversationally tells you, me, us, his reader that his purpose in writing these letters, in other words - God’s purpose in giving us these scriptures, is to stir up our pure minds. First of all, that speaks of God’s grace, His mercy and His incredible character…all to our significant advantage. • What do I mean? I’m saved, I’m a Christian, I’m a sinner. All three of those statements are true. Until the day the Lord takes me home, I will struggle daily with the flesh, make mistakes and continue to be engaged in this battle, entirely internal battle, of the Spirit waring with the flesh. And all the while, I will do all of that knowing that by the cross of Jesus, my sins are forgiven. And now my relationship and closeness and oneness and worthiness with God is based solely on the purity that I possess simply by my personal association with Jesus Christ. • Second thing here in this statement is another thought. How often is my impure mind stirred up by the things of this world and even by my own flesh? Almost constantly, right? Therefore, I see a need to stir up the pure side of my mind as well. That portion of me, that second nature that has come alive by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, I need and want that purity stirred up! Through prayer, faithfulness, Bible study, worship, fellowship, service… • It’s that old adage, “If you have two things fighting against each other, which one will win? The one you feed!” I find that to be true as well in my own life. Discouraged, fearful, lustful, discontent…what have I been stirring into my spirit? Or maybe better said, what have I not been stirring. It’s like flavored coffee creamer. I hate the stuff…ha. Stir a little bit in, and for me, doesn’t even taste like coffee anymore…just tastes like foofy weak sauce! HA! Same in the spirit I have found… And so, Peter stirs up our pure minds (glory to Jesus) by way of reminder… (putting the things of truth back into our minds – RE, mind). 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 2 • Peter wants me to win. Period, dot, end of line, end of story, end of transmission. He wants you and I to find what he has found and that is the truth and saving freedom power of Jesus Christ through forgiveness and love. To overcome, to rise above, to walk in wisdom and purpose. And his prescription is to have a mind FULL of the Word of God. That’s the reminder to be stirred unto! The Word of God as spoken through the prophets, apostles and Jesus. • This would have been the moment, if Peter wanted to establish himself as some sort of supreme leader, but Peter never did that, he never does that, and here he is at the end of his life, and he doesn’t do it now. His statement is that he has shared authority with all of the apostles, shared with the and at the level of the prophets, because all of them are of, from and speaking on behalf of the Lord, Jesus Christ. In a way, he is giving his authority away here which is the mark of a humble, servant, exceptional leader. 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 3 • I like this. Why do folks scoff? Because it serves themselves. That is the single only particular specific reason anyone ever would scoff. What is “scoffing” anyway? Not a word we use often. To scoff is an expression of contempt, mockery or ridicule. Correct, debate, discuss, disagree…all acceptable. But scoffers are scoffing because, well it’s as Peter says here, they are serving themselves. • And he says that they will come in the last days. When did the last days begin? Hebrews Chapter 1 Verses 1-2 say, “God, who at various times in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.” According to the New Testament writers, not just the writer of Hebrews, the last days began with the first coming of Jesus. • And I’m not sure why that causes such a problem for some folks. Maybe it’s because of the logic being used even in Peter’s day by those that sought to ridicule the Apostles… Check this out… 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 4 • Are they correct in what they are saying? Yes… Jesus hadn’t returned yet and even today He has yet to return however the choice then becomes quite personal, are you going to believe He is at some point going to return, live in that knowledge and reality or are you going to (next verse) willfully forget so that you in no way worry about being prepared…which by the way, will lead you to no doubt the spirit of scoffing!? • But this was their complaint!? Their “a-ha” against the apostles. Set aside that people are being saved, set free from their sin, experiencing the Lord first hand being filled for the first time and led in a real and authentic way by love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Set aside that people are genuinely caring for each other. Homes and marriages are being saved and even more, thriving. People are experiencing purpose and expressing love. And even in the case of Peter and Paul, the sick were being healed and national regions are changing wholesale for the good as churches are being planted…yea…put that all aside, “where is the promise of His coming, huh!?” • And over the years this has come up quite a few times in conversation where someone will disagree (with a bit of a spirit of contempt and eve mockery) with the statement or belief that time is short and the return of the Lord is at hand. And my thought, really my verbal response, has always been, “ok, so….” What does that mean? Does that mean there’s still time to sin and repent? Take the long route to freedom and the power of purposeful identify for yourself by not dealing with things as immediately as possible? Is it, if you’re a Christian, better to live in the expectation of Jesus’ imminent return or not? Isn’t that a silly question? • This has been the hope of the church for the past 2,000 years. We are about to enter into the Christmas season…the song “Joy to the World,” (written in 1719 by Mariah Carey, HA, just kidding, written by Isaac Watts), you know that was written not about Jesus’ birth but about His return? The third and fourth verses read, “No more let sins and sorrows grow, not thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow, far as the curse is found.” “He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness, and wonders of His love…” • The theme of the return of Christ, next to the theme of salvation, in fact dominates the scriptures. Almost 2,000 times, the subject of the return of Jesus Christ is spoken about or alluded to. One verse out of 30 verses in the Bible speaks of the second coming, the return of Jesus Christ. A full 1/5th of the entire Bible deals with either the end of days or the second coming of Christ. For every one verse that speaks about His first coming, there are eight that speaks about his second. Twenty-one times Jesus personally refers to His own return and fifty times we are told to be ready for it! Are you? You know because it is a thought you often have…that Jesus may, could, PLEASE…return today! • And this, by the way, this statement, “All things continue as they were from the beginning of creation,” asked you before is this true…well it is…which sucker punches the theory of evolution, but that’s a conversation for another day. 2 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 5 – 7 • Ok, first of all these verses make clear that the active agent in creation was and is the Word of God. Y, sin embargo, Pedro casi conversacionalmente te dice a ti, a mí, a nosotros, a su lector, que su propósito al escribir estas cartas, en otras palabras, el propósito de Dios al darnos estas escrituras, es despertar nuestras mentes puras. En primer lugar, eso habla de la gracia de Dios, su misericordia y su increíble carácter... todo a nuestra ventaja significativa. · ¿A qué me refiero? Soy salvo, soy cristiano, soy pecador. Las tres afirmaciones son ciertas. Hasta el día en que el Señor me lleve a casa, lucharé diariamente con la carne, cometeré errores y continuaré participando en esta batalla, batalla completamente interna, del Espíritu que hace guerra con la carne. Y todo el tiempo, haré todo eso sabiendo que por la cruz de Jesús, mis pecados son perdonados. Y ahora mi relación y cercanía y unidad y dignidad con Dios se basa únicamente en la pureza que poseo simplemente por mi asociación personal con Jesucristo. · La segunda cosa aquí en esta declaración es otro pensamiento. ¿Cuántas veces mi mente impura es agitada por las cosas de este mundo e incluso por mi propia carne? Casi constantemente, ¿verdad? Por lo tanto, veo la necesidad de agitar el lado puro de mi mente también. ¡Esa porción de mí, esa segunda naturaleza que ha cobrado vida por la presencia del Espíritu Santo que mora en mí, necesito y quiero que esa pureza se agite! A través de la oración, la fidelidad, el estudio de la Biblia, la adoración, el compañerismo, el servicio... · Es ese viejo adagio: "Si tienes dos cosas luchando entre sí, ¿cuál ganará? ¡La que alimentas!" Encuentro que eso también es cierto en mi propia vida. Desanimado, temeroso, lujurioso, descontento... ¿Qué he estado moviendo en mi espíritu? O tal vez mejor dicho, ¿qué no he estado agitando? Es como una crema de café con sabor. Odio esa cosa... ja. Revuelve un poco, y para mí, ya ni siquiera sabe a café ... ¡Solo sabe a agua agitada con crema de calcetín! ¡Ja! Lo mismo en el espíritu que he encontrado... Y así, Pedro despierta nuestras mentes puras (gloria a Jesús) por forma de recordatorio... (poniendo las cosas de la verdad de nuevo en nuestras mentes – RE, mente). 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 2 · Pedro quiere que gane. Punto, punto, final de línea, fin de historia, fin de transmisión. Él quiere que tú y yo encontremos lo que él ha encontrado y que es la verdad y el poder salvador de la libertad de Jesucristo a través del perdón y el amor. Vencer, elevarse por encima, caminar en sabiduría y propósito. Y su prescripción es tener una mente LLENA de la Palabra de Dios. ¡Ese es el recordatorio al que hay que agitar! La Palabra de Dios hablada a través de los profetas, apóstoles y Jesús. · Este habría sido el momento, si Pedro quisiera establecerse como una especie de líder supremo, pero Pedro nunca hizo eso, nunca hace eso, y aquí está al final de su vida, y no lo hace ahora. Su declaración es que ha compartido autoridad con todos los apóstoles, compartida con los profetas y en el nivel de ellos, porque todos ellos son de, de y hablando en nombre del Señor, Jesucristo. En cierto modo, está regalando su autoridad aquí, que es la marca de un líder humilde, siervo excepcional. 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 3 · Me gusta esto. ¿Por qué la gente se burla? Porque se sirven a sí mismos. Esa es la única razón específica particular por la que alguien se burlaría. Bueno, y ¿Qué es "burlarse"? No es una palabra que usemos a menudo. Burlarse es una expresión de desprecio, burla o ridículo. Corregir, debatir, discutir, discrepar... todo aceptable. Pero los burladores se burlan porque, bueno, es como dice Pedro aquí, se están sirviendo a sí mismos. · Y dice que vendrán en los últimos días. ¿Cuándo comenzaron los últimos días? Hebreos capítulo 1 versículos 1-2 dice: "Dios, que en varias ocasiones de diversas maneras habló en tiempo pasado a los padres por los profetas, en estos últimos días nos ha hablado por su Hijo". Según los escritores del Nuevo Testamento, no sólo el escritor de Hebreos, los últimos días comenzaron con la primera venida de Jesús. · Y no estoy seguro de por qué eso causa tal problema para algunas personas. Tal vez sea debido a la lógica utilizada incluso en los días de Pedro por aquellos que buscaban ridiculizar a los apóstoles ... Mira esto... 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículo 4 · ¿Tienen razón en lo que dicen? Sí... Jesús aún no había regresado e incluso hoy aún no ha regresado, sin embargo, la elección se vuelve bastante personal, ¿vas a creer que en algún momento Él va a regresar, vivir en ese conocimiento y realidad o vas a (siguiente versículo) olvidar voluntariamente para que de ninguna manera te preocupes por estar preparado ... que por cierto, te llevará sin duda al espíritu de burla!? · ¿¡Pero esta fue su queja!? Su "a-ha" contra los apóstoles. Deja de lado que las personas están siendo salvadas, liberadas de su pecado, experimentando al Señor de primera mano siendo llenado por primera vez y guiado de una manera real y auténtica por el amor, la alegría, la paz, la longanimidad, la bondad, la fidelidad, la mansedumbre y el dominio propio. Deja de lado que las personas se preocupan genuinamente unas por otras. Los hogares y los matrimonios se están salvando y, lo que es más, prosperan. Las personas están experimentando un propósito y expresando amor. E incluso en el caso de Pedro y Pablo, los enfermos estaban siendo sanados y las regiones nacionales están cambiando al por mayor para bien a medida que se plantan iglesias. Sí... pon todo eso a un lado, "¿Dónde está la promesa de Su venida, eh?" · Y a lo largo de los años, esto ha surgido varias veces en una conversación en la que alguien estará en desacuerdo (con un poco de espíritu de desprecio y burla de eva) con la declaración o creencia de que el tiempo es corto y que el regreso del Señor está cerca. Y mi pensamiento, realmente mi respuesta verbal, siempre ha sido: "ok, entonces..." ¿Qué significa eso? ¿Significa eso que todavía hay tiempo para pecar y arrepentirse? ¿Tomar el largo camino hacia la libertad y el poder de identificarse con propósito por sí mismo al no tratar con las cosas lo más inmediatamente posible? ¿Es, si eres cristiano, mejor vivir en la expectativa del inminente regreso de Jesús o no? ¿No es una pregunta tonta? · Esta ha sido la esperanza de la iglesia durante los últimos 2.000 años. Estamos a punto de entrar en la temporada navideña... la canción "Joy to the World" (escrita en 1719 por Mariah Carey, HA, es broma, escrita por Isaac Watts), ¿sabes que no fue escrita sobre el nacimiento de Jesús sino sobre su regreso? Los versículos tercero y cuarto dicen: "No más crezcan los pecados y las penas, ni las espinas infesten la tierra; Él viene a hacer fluir sus bendiciones, hasta donde se encuentra la maldición". "Él gobierna el mundo con verdad y gracia, y hace que las naciones prueben las glorias de su justicia y las maravillas de su amor..." · El tema del regreso de Cristo, junto al tema de la salvación, domina de hecho las Escrituras. Casi 2.000 veces, se habla o se alude al tema del regreso de Jesucristo. Un versículo de cada 30 versículos en la Biblia habla de la segunda venida, el regreso de Jesucristo. Un 1/5 completo de toda la Biblia trata con el fin de los días o la segunda venida de Cristo. Por cada versículo que habla de Su primera venida, hay ocho que hablan de Su segunda. ¡Veintiuna veces Jesús se refiere personalmente a su propio regreso y cincuenta veces se nos dice que estemos listos para ello! ¿Estas? Lo sabes porque es un pensamiento que a menudo tienes... que Jesús pueda, pueda, POR FAVOR... ¡que Vuelva hoy! · Y esto, por cierto, esta declaración, "Todas las cosas continúan como eran desde el principio de la creación”, preguntada antes es esto cierto, ¿es verdad? ... bueno, lo es... Lo que golpea la teoría de la evolución, pero esa es una conversación para otro día. 2 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículos 5 – 7 · Ok, en primer lugar estos versículos dejan claro que el agente activo en la creación fue y es la Palabra de Dios. Él habló y la creación salió. Llámalo el Big Bang... todo bien... Pero así es como comenzó todo. Dios habló y fue creado. Colosenses 1:16 dice: "Porque por Él fueron creadas todas las cosas que están en el cielo y que están en la tierra, visibles e invisibles, ya sean tronos o dominios o principados o potestades. Todas las cosas fueron creadas por medio de Él y para Él." · Y verdaderamente si usted puede recibir por fe la primera oración de la Biblia, entonces el resto de ella no debería ser un problema... Génesis 1:1, "En el principio creó Dios los cielos y la tierra". Si puedes conformarte con creer eso, porque cualquier cosa que creas sobre cómo llegamos aquí y de dónde venimos, cualquier cosa que creas va a requerir fe, si puedes conformarte con que Dios sea lo suficientemente grande para Génesis 1: 1, entonces el resto de la Biblia no debería sudar. · Pero, ¿por qué las cosas tienen millones y miles de millones de años de antigüedad entonces? En Génesis 1:26, Dios dijo: "Hagamos al hombre a nuestra imagen". ¿Fue Adán creado un bebé o un hombre? Claramente, fue creado como un hombre adulto. ¿Qué edad tenía Adán en su primer día de vida? Un día de edad. Pero... Era un hombre. Dios puede crear con la apariencia de la edad. De hecho, esa es la forma en que la Biblia presenta la creación, solo mira a Adán. Y esa es solo una manera de responder bíblicamente a esa pregunta. Hay otros. · Basta con decir que se necesita fe. La creación a través de la ocurrencia aleatoria o la creación a través del Creador, ambos van a tomar fe ... ¡Pero de lo que Pedro está hablando aquí es de que aquellos que se burlan del mensaje del regreso de Cristo olvidan cuán repentinamente pueden ser destruidos personalmente! Puede que Cristo no regrese por otros 100 años, ¡pero todos nosotros vamos a regresar a Él antes de eso! · Y Pedro señala el diluvio para hacer este punto. Que Dios preservó, se detuvo, hasta el día en que no lo hizo, lo que tomó a todos en la tierra excepto a 8 almas por asalto (juego de palabras). ¿Y yo? ¿Estoy listo hoy, si esto es todo lo que tengo, estoy listo para sentarme con Jesús?

2 Peter 2 vs 11-22

Review of what we’ve already covered in Chapter 2: What makes a person a false prophet or a false teacher? Anyone in the faith, in the church, that through whatever they are teaching, whether it be good information or not, or whatever they are doing, or whatever their behavior, pulls you away from the Lord OR what the Lord desires or has planned for you. Characteristics of a false teacher, false prophet: They are among us, they utilize secrecy or trickery and what they are teaching, spreading or doing, the end of it is destructive (that’s all verse 1). Also, their motive is covetousness and they are smart…they exploit other’s weaknesses (that’s all in verse 3). Finally, they really don’t like anyone having authority and they are extremely self-willed. That brings us up to verse 11… 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 11 • This is interesting, because many Bible commentators believe this to be a reference to the strength and might of Michael who in the Book of Jude faced off against Lucifer and didn’t exert his own authority but when arguing with Lucifer said to him, “The Lord rebuke you.” And so even in the exercising of his own power, he displayed submission and reverence to the will and power of God over his own. And I think that’s good and acceptable… • But, just taking this at face value, Michael isn’t mentioned, this is just simply talking about angels who today have authority in that how they are greater in power and might, hold their tongues against false prophets, why? They know God is going to deal with them. That’s the context here… That even though they see and know and have the authority, they choose to defer to the judgment of God rather than their own judgment. Which in fact and by the way is the opposite of the false teacher and/or the one walking in the flesh. • Here’s the deal, don’t deal with a false prophet by becoming a false prophet! We can do that… Paul wrote in the Book of Romans to not return evil for evil but overcome evil with good. Why? Because evil doesn’t overcome evil. HA. Only good triumphs over evil… That is the call here and the contextual applicable truth Peter is conveying. 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 12 – 13 • Peter is firing full barrel here against this “brute beast” threat, the wolf in sheep’s clothing. How do you know a wolf? Sheep get eaten. Sheep disappear. Now look, sheep bite sheep. It just happens. Sheep offend other sheep with ignorance, smelliness, clumsiness…HA. And we gotta work through that and we do and those things happen, but when sheep are being devoured, that’s a wolf. And that is a characteristic just like our enemy as Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:8, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” • And as a fellow sheep and under-shepherd serving the Lord on this planet, we, you and I have a responsibility to confront those that Peter is writing about, and let me tell you, it must not only be done, but it must be done without any hesitation or delay. I love the calling and the privilege of pastoring. And in this calling, I am to love the Lord with ALL of my heart, soul, mind and strength and then love this flock as unto the Lord. Each of you incredibly intensely important and loved by Jesus. And so, with the same integrity of passion and grit that I am to love the flock, I am also to address the antagonist. • And I know that is an uncomfortable statement and even more uncomfortable action…for you and for me…but here’s where it settles in my heart, because this radical Biblical resolution will end up with people being upset with me, maybe even against me and certainly leaving the church. But am I here to tend and feed the flock to the wolves? Absolutely not! • First, I am after the spirit of the wolf in me. I mean this one is so entirely basic and really should be each and every Christian… I have a propensity to show partiality, to look out for myself, to disregard the position and perspective of others, and that type of mentality bites other sheep at best, and is in danger of devouring, totally devastating a fellow child of God. And so, I am on the hunt first in my own heart, mind, thoughts, actions, statements, attitudes that are wolfish. Are you? • And second, ultimately, I will answer to Jesus for the care of His church…I will not answer to any other fellow sheep, and that has become over the years the settling agent when people despise me for attacking assault on and to and within the body of Christ. I just cannot and will not dwell on the fact that I am no longer a walk-on-water perfect pastor in their eyes. I have to and I am ok with that. You cannot and I will not worry about the worldly fall-out that may, can, will and often does come from confronting a wolf… • Oh, but pastor, just do it in love seasoned with grace…no. Wolves don’t speak that language. That’s not how I handle the devil…that’s not how Michael handled him…he rebuked him. And so, with the same fervor and intensity we seek to serve the Body of Christ, we hunt, pursue and will overwhelm the body of the adversary…and again, how do we know? Sheep are being eaten… • And there’s a short and hard-hitting lesson on unrighteousness in these verses as well… Because notice, Peter says there in verse 13, he speaks of the wages of unrighteousness. Like, what does walking in the flesh, (not acknowledging or listening to God), what does it pay? And the wages are listed here…, being caught…that speaks of a trap. Sin never advertises the result, only the pleasure of the indulgence. • You’ve heard the mantra, “If it feels good, do it!” You know that is about the most foolish thought one could consider on a matter, right? If it leads to goodness, do it. What if it feels good and you lose your family for those couple moments of pleasure? What if it feels good and you tell your boss where he/she can put your TPS reports! HA! And you lose your job. Sin advertises the beer commercial, you and Snoop living it up on a beach somewhere making raps, “The high life,” but never shows the results of a life of alcoholism… • The wages continue from the trap to it says there in verse 12 that they are caught and destroyed…there’s the accurate Corona commercial! And continuing Peter says that the unwise perish in their own corruption… The final blow of the destruction that living apart from God will bring is the realization that no one can be faulted or blamed but me, but yourself… And that is hard to bounce back from… Because now its not others that think you’re a bad guy, it’s you… 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 14 - 17 • Ok, check this out, all of this under-the-surface vision that Peter wants us to have but notice, on the surface, what will they look like? “Natural brute beasts,” strong, impressive, attractive even…, “carousing in the daytime,” having a good time, doing well, smiling, maybe even laughing, cutting up…, “carousing in their own deceptions and feasting with you.” Living it up, man…fully convinced of their own stuff…what’s that look like? Confidence! Is confidence attractive? Absolutely. • “Heart trained in covetous practice,” and so they know how to get what they want and they HAVE what they want. They look like wells but no water. They look like clouds, heavenly maybe, but they turn and change, even turn on you on a dime. What’s my point… Man, we gotta be on alert…because a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a false prophet, a narcissist will appeal to almost the entirety of our flesh! 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 18 – 22 • THIS. IS. MAJOR. Is Peter saying that a Christian, who knows Christ, is saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit, can be lured by a false prophet to lose their faith and therefore go to hell? No way…in a way, it’s worldly worse than that. If the enemy can’t have your soul, he’ll be just fine to take your life. • This is a Christian that has been derailed, duped, overcome and entangled and in that turned through deceit to unholiness… Traded holiness for happiness… and now, they’ve lost their marriage, their job, their ministry, their dignity, their self-respect and the respect of others…how do you recover from that? Honest truth, without total surrender to the Lord, total openness about what’s happened and total humility, in a way and in a portion, you don’t. • Your recovery, truly, will be in the life to come… There is an avenue of your heart and life that is forever affected that a person will wrestle with and contend with and have to deal with for the rest of their lives. And this is a primary reason why people leave the ministry and all together, saved and all, stop serving the Lord. Because something about them just no longer fits…in their minds… This is where grace is so necessary! • And this is serious to the point that Peter says, it would have been better for them to not have known what was right, having now chosen wrong…, or the internal turmoil of being duped into it all… and the affect is so incredible that although they are saved, they will forever feel like a dog or a pig in the house of God… And that is tragic. Now, God is able to restore but it is drastic and takes a drastic work of humility and repentance in the heart of the victim…possible, just very very difficult. • Ultimately, knowledge is indeed responsibility. Once you’ve been exposed to the truth, you’re accountable. And the work of the flesh, the world and the enemy is to convince you to walk in the flesh and disregard the truth of God’s Word and God’s will but that path is precisely what ruins a life. Trading holiness for happiness… and most don’t realize it until it’s too late. So you’ve done it, so have I, so have we all, ok. Breathe, remember, repent and return to the fact that through Jesus…you have ESCAPED and no matter what has happened, you are PURE! If the lion has devoured you, make him barf! Repaso de lo que ya hemos cubierto en el capítulo 2: ¿Qué hace que una persona sea un falso profeta o un falso maestro? Cualquiera en la fe, en la iglesia, que a través de lo que sea que estén enseñando, ya sea buena información o no, o lo que sea que estén haciendo, o cualquiera que sea su comportamiento, te aleja del Señor O de lo que el Señor desea o ha planeado para ti. Además, su motivo es la codicia y son inteligentes ... explotan las debilidades de los demás (eso es todo en el versículo 3). Finalmente, realmente no les gusta que nadie tenga autoridad y son extremadamente voluntariosos. Eso nos lleva al versículo 11... 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 11 · Esto es interesante, porque muchos comentaristas de la Biblia creen que esto es una referencia a la fuerza y el poder de Miguel, quien en el Libro de Judas se enfrentó a Lucifer y no ejerció su propia autoridad, pero al discutir con Lucifer le dijo: "El Señor te reprende". Y así, incluso en el ejercicio de su propio poder, mostró sumisión y reverencia a la voluntad y el poder de Dios sobre los suyos. Y creo que eso es bueno y aceptable... · Pero, solo tomando esto al pie de la letra, No se menciona a Miguel, esto es simplemente hablar de ángeles que hoy tienen autoridad en que cómo son más grandes en poder y fuerza, sostienen sus lenguas contra los falsos profetas, ¿por qué? Saben que Dios va a tratar con ellos. Ese es el contexto aquí... Que a pesar de que ven, conocen y tienen la autoridad, eligen diferir al juicio de Dios en lugar de su propio juicio. Que de hecho y por cierto es lo opuesto al falso maestro y/o al que camina en la carne. · Aquí está el trato, ¡no trates con un falso profeta convirtiéndote en un falso profeta! Podemos hacer eso... Pablo escribió en el Libro de Romanos que no devolviera el mal por el mal, sino que venciera el mal con el bien. ¿Por qué? Porque el mal no vence al mal. Ja. Sólo el bien triunfa sobre el mal... Ese es el llamado aquí y la verdad contextual aplicable que Pedro está transmitiendo. 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 12– 13 · Pedro está disparando el cañón lleno aquí contra esta amenaza de "bestia bruta", el lobo con piel de oveja. ¿Cómo conoces a un lobo? Las ovejas se comen. Las ovejas desaparecen. Ahora mira, las ovejas muerden a las ovejas. Simplemente sucede. Las ovejas ofenden a otras ovejas con ignorancia, olfato, torpeza... Ja. Y tenemos que trabajar a través de eso y lo hacemos y esas cosas suceden, pero cuando las ovejas están siendo devoradas, eso es un lobo. Y esa es una característica al igual que nuestro enemigo como Pedro escribió en 1 Pedro 5:8: "Tu adversario el diablo camina como un león rugiente, buscando a quién devorar". · Y como compañeros pastores y pastores que sirven al Señor en este planeta, nosotros, usted y yo tenemos la responsabilidad de confrontar a aquellos sobre los que Pedro está escribiendo, y déjenme decirles, no solo debe hacerse, sino que debe hacerse sin ninguna vacilación o demora. Me encanta el llamado y el privilegio de pastorear. Y en este llamamiento, debo amar al Señor con TODO mi corazón, alma, mente y fuerza y luego amar a este rebaño como al Señor. Cada uno de ustedes increíblemente intensamente importante y amado por Jesús. Y así, con la misma integridad de pasión y determinación que debo amar al rebaño, también debo dirigirme al antagonista. · Y sé que es una declaración incómoda y una acción aún más incómoda ... para ti y para mí... pero aquí es donde se instala en mi corazón, porque esta resolución bíblica radical terminará con personas molestas conmigo, tal vez incluso contra mí y ciertamente dejando la iglesia. Pero, ¿estoy aquí para cuidar y alimentar al rebaño con los lobos? ¡En absoluto! · Primero, estoy detrás del espíritu del lobo en mí. Quiero decir que este es tan completamente básico y realmente debería ser todos y cada uno de los cristianos ... Tengo una propensión a mostrar parcialidad, a cuidarme a mí mismo, a ignorar la posición y la perspectiva de los demás, y ese tipo de mentalidad muerde a otras ovejas en el mejor de los casos, y está en peligro de devorar, devastar totalmente a un compañero hijo de Dios. Y así, estoy al caza primero en mi propio corazón, mente, pensamientos, acciones, declaraciones, actitudes que son de un lobo. ¿ Tu lo Estas? · Y segundo, en última instancia, responderé a Jesús por el cuidado de Su iglesia... No responderé a ningún otro compañero de oveja, y eso se ha convertido a lo largo de los años en el agente de asentamiento cuando la gente me desprecia por atacar el asalto al, hacia y dentro del cuerpo de Cristo. Simplemente no puedo y no me detendré en el hecho de que ya no soy un pastor perfecto a sus ojos. Tengo que hacerlo y estoy de acuerdo con eso. No puedes y no me preocuparé por las consecuencias mundanas que podrian, pueden, y que a menudo llegan al enfrentarse a un lobo ... · Ah, pero pastor, solo hazlo en amor sazonado con gracia... No. Los lobos no hablan ese idioma. No es así como manejo al diablo... no es así como Michael lo manejó... lo reprendió. Y así, con el mismo fervor e intensidad que buscamos servir al Cuerpo de Cristo, cazamos, perseguimos y abrumaremos el cuerpo del adversario... y de nuevo, ¿cómo lo sabemos? Se están comiendo ovejas... · Y también hay una breve y contundente lección sobre la injusticia en estos versículos... Porque fíjate, Pedro dice allí en el versículo 13, él habla de la paga de la injusticia. Como, ¿qué hace caminar en la carne, (no reconocer o escuchar a Dios), ¿qué paga? Y los salarios se enumeran aquí..., siendo atrapados... eso habla de una trampa. El pecado nunca anuncia el resultado, sólo el placer de la indulgencia. · Has escuchado el mantra: "Si se siente bien, ¡hazlo!" Sabes que se trata del pensamiento más tonto que uno podría considerar sobre un asunto, ¿verdad? Si conduce a la bondad, hazlo. ¿Qué pasa si se siente bien y pierdes a tu familia por esos momentos de placer en pareja? ¡Qué pasa si se siente bien y le dices a tu jefe dónde puede poner tus informes de TPS! ¡Ja! Y pierdes tu trabajo. El Pecado anuncia el comercial de la cerveza, tú y Juanito vivendo la vida en una playa en algún lugar haciendo raps, “La gran y alta Vida” pero nunca muestra los resultados de una vida de alcoholismo... · Los salarios continúan desde la trampa hasta que dice allí en el versículo 12 que son capturados y destruidos... ¡Ahí está el comercial preciso de Corona! Y continuando Pedro dice que los imprudentes, faltos de sabiduría perecen en su propia corrupción... El golpe final de la destrucción que traerá vivir separado de Dios traerá la realización de que nadie puede ser culpado o acusado sino yo, sino tú mismo... Y eso es difícil de recuperar... Porque ahora no son otros los que piensan que eres un chico malo, eres tú... 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 14 - 17 · Ok, echa un vistazo a esto, toda esta visión debajo de la superficie que Pedro quiere que tengamos, pero fíjate, en la superficie, ¿cómo se verán? "Bestias brutas naturales", fuertes, impresionantes, atractivas incluso..., "carrusel durante el día", pasándolo bien, haciéndolo bien, sonriendo, tal vez incluso riendo, divirtiendose..., "haciendo carrusel en sus propios engaños y festejando contigo". Vivirlo, hombre... plenamente convencidos de sus propias cosas... ¿Cómo es eso? ¡Confianza! ¿Es atractiva la confianza? Absolutamente. · "Corazón entrenado en la práctica codiciosa", y así saben cómo obtener lo que quieren y TIENEN lo que quieren. Parecen pozos pero no agua. Parecen nubes, celestiales tal vez, pero se vuelven y cambian, incluso se vuelven contra ti en un centavo. ¿Cuál es mi punto ... Hombre, tenemos que estar en alerta... ¡porque un lobo con piel de oveja, un falso profeta, un narcisista apelará a casi la totalidad de nuestra carne! 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 18–22 · ÉSTE. Es. DESTACADO. ¿Está pedro diciendo que un cristiano, que conoce a Cristo, es salvo y sellado por el Espíritu Santo, puede ser atraído por un falso profeta para perder su fe y por lo tanto ir al infierno? No es posible... en cierto modo, es mundano peor que eso. Si el enemigo no puede tener tu alma, se conforma con quitarte la vida. · Este es un cristiano que ha sido descarrilado, engañado, vencido y enredado y en eso se ha convertido a través del engaño a la falta de santidad ... Cambió la santidad por la felicidad... y ahora, han perdido su matrimonio, su trabajo, su ministerio, su dignidad, su autoestima y el respeto de los demás... ¿Cómo te recuperas de eso? Verdad honesta, sin rendirse totalmente al Señor, sin total apertura y aceptación sobre lo que ha sucedido, has hecho y sin humildad total, en cierto modo y cierta porción, no lo harás. · Tu recuperación, verdaderamente, estará en la vida venidera... Hay una avenida de su corazón y de su vida que se ve afectada para siempre con la que una persona luchará, lidiará y tendrá que lidiar por el resto de sus vidas. Y esta es una razón principal por la cual las personas dejan el ministerio y todos juntos, salvos y todos, dejan de servir al Señor. Porque algo sobre ellos simplemente ya no encaja ... en sus mentes... ¡Aquí es donde la gracia es tan necesaria! · Y esto es grave hasta el punto de que Pedro dice, habría sido mejor para ellos no haber sabido lo que estaba bien, habiendo elegido ahora el mal ..., o la agitación interna de ser engañados en todo esto ... y el afecto es tan increíble que aunque se salven, siempre se sentirán como un perro o un cerdo en la casa de Dios ... Y eso es trágico. Ahora, Dios es capaz de restaurar, pero es drástico y toma una obra drástica de humildad y arrepentimiento en el corazón de la víctima... posible, simplemente muy muy difícil. · En última instancia, el conocimiento es de hecho responsabilidad. Una vez que has estado expuesto a la verdad, eres responsable. Y la obra de la carne, del mundo y del enemigo es convencerte de que camines en la carne y no tengas en cuenta la verdad de la Palabra de Dios y la voluntad de Dios, pero ese camino es precisamente lo que arruina una vida. Cambiando la santidad por la felicidad... y la mayoría no se da cuenta hasta que es demasiado tarde. Así que tú lo has hecho, yo también, así hemos hecho todos, ok. Respira, recuerda, arrepiéntete y vuelve al hecho de que a través de Jesús... has ESCAPADO y no importa lo que haya pasado, ¡eres PURO! Si el león te ha devorado, ¡hazlo vomitar!

2 Peter 2 vs 3-10

2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 3 • Covetousness, exploitation, deception. This is the recipe, the prescription, the consistency of the false prophet, the Gnostic, the Narcissist. They want you or something you can do for them or something you have. And the reason they want it is to exploit it in order to prop up and support their personal truth. Which really comes down to making them feel good. Giving them pleasure. And in order to extract what they want from you they’ll do and say just about anything… And when you fall into their trap, destruction doesn’t slumber. • Compare and contrast that with what God not only calls you to but desires for you through Jesus Christ. God doesn’t want what we have so that He can spend it on Himself. God’s desire for you and for me is for us to be blessed with whatever we have, be it a lot or a little… God is blessed to see us blessed! His desire is to teach us that joy doesn’t come from what we can get from others but what we can give to others, because He has made each one us fearfully, wonderfully and in His image, and He has showed us the WAY through the cross! • God in no way wants to exploit you or exploit me for His own purposes but rather He wants to show us that His purpose for our life is how you and I overcome the world! Reach our God-given and God-designed potential…and find freedom and strength and joy of mind, heart, body and soul. And there is zero deception in God. He will tell you the truth of the truth always even when it makes us feel not so good… Because in the end, He is not concerned with my happiness as much as He is concerned with my holiness… Holiness is what will set me free, not momentary, situational, circumstantial highs of happiness. • It’s difficult, I know, to turn from self and to turn to God because it takes faith…it takes trust…and it takes setting self aside, but the decision is clear…to be a false prophet, serve yourself…and search your whole life for meaning and joy. Or serve the Lord, set self down and embrace the cross of Jesus Christ and be set free entirely. 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 4 – 9 • The extraction from these verses is that God is serious about this…and the fate of the angels that sinned (which we covered in depth in a previous study – please reference the study on 1 Peter Chapter 3 Verses 13-22), the fate of the world of the ungodly in the time of Noah, the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah, all of these give testimony, warning and type of what’s going to be the fate of those who pervert the gospel of grace and live after themselves… • It’s so not enough though, is it? Like, these types and these pictures, they are all there and yet every day people hurt people left and right in the church by living unto themselves and not unto the Lord! It’s crazy! I was thinking about this the other day…80s music. 80s music was there when I was in high school, when I was in college, when I began my career, when we started this church…and now I hear an 80s song and I think about how I heard this when I knew so much less and like…well, it’s just odd… many things were knowable then…like how a relationship would end up or man just thinking about the mistakes that I’ve made along the way and what my life would be like if I just hadn’t of made this decision or that decision, it’s such a wild thought…I don’t know if that makes any sense… but for me, the warnings and the dangers and the risks, not enough… So, I’m empathetic and yet still frustrated with those that decide to serve self today… • And this is where grace, in a way, works a bit against me/us…in the flesh I should say. Because this verse set puts on display that God’s grace and His mercy and His longsuffering and His patience can be completely abused and mistaken for weakness, blindness or even approval but in fact in that mistake, in a way, folks are sealing their fate. To lose perhaps something glorious of God that could have been their future. • And yet, there’s incredible encouragement here also of how God, even in the midst of all of my nonsense, flesh and ultimately because I am His child, will save and provide for me, not because I am good but because He is good! What? Where? Look at verse 7… Lot, look at this descriptor given for him. It says here, “righteous Lot!” What!? Lot chose where he would, live, work, raise his family not based on God’s will but it says in Genesis 13:10 that “Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord,” …only it wasn’t the garden of the Lord… He just didn’t lift his eyes enough… • And so, he settles in Sodom, and begins life, brings up his family…and when the angels come to speak to him in Sodom, where is he? Sitting on the gate of the city. In other words, he was an elder by that time of that city, a leader…BUT…notice, Peter tells us that living there and what went on there “tortured his righteous soul from day to day,” and so even in the midst of doing virtually everything wrong… God calls him righteous!? SO much to say about that but enough to simply say this…if Lot was righteous in the eyes of God, I’ve got a shot! HA! • And just as God knows how to destroy the false prophet, the wicked and the narcissist, He knows how to save out those that their heart is for the Lord! Even if their life is all wrong… Wild, right? But notice, righteous Lot…let this be a warning…80s music…your decisions, what you ultimately do…in being saved out of Sodom, LOT LOST EVERYTHING…and all he took, his daughters, well, they were the ultimate legacy of shame if you know the story… So, notice, additional qualities of the ungodly… 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 10 • This section, really all the way to the end of the chapter becomes so descriptive that not much commentary is needed but notice Peter equates walking according to the flesh (living out of connection with God – out of His will – and in opposition to His blessings) with uncleanness and despising authority. Uncleanness, let me ask you, do you feel clean today? Like spiritually, emotionally, mentally clean? If your answer is no then you are living out of connection with God, out of His will, and in opposition to His blessings. • But I’ve done too much, I mean, you don’t know what I did on the way to church this morning? Ok, 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sin,” that word in the Greek is “homologeo,” and it means “same logic,” if we agree with God about it rather than justifying it, deflecting it or hiding it, covering it up and hoping it goes away, but if we acknowledge that sin, 1 John 1:9 says that, “He is faithful and just to forgive us out sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness.” SO, if you don’t feel spiritually, emotionally, mentally clean today… you need to quite running, hiding, deflecting, justifying and acknowledge your sin before God…and then, you’re clean. Back in connection with God, back in His will and back in agreement with God’s blessing on your life. SO many have gotten into a lifestyle of just living unclean and it halts your growth, kills you joy and makes you loveless… • Peter also links walking according to the flesh with despising authority, self-will and presumption. What does that look like? Rebellion outright? No. This is grumbling, back-biting, gossip and talking behind the back of someone God has put in your life to keep order, whip you into shape and boss you around. HA! But we won’t have authority like that, right? We’re Americans! So, we undermine authority in our own minds by playing one part when they’re around and talking smack when they’re not… That is absolutely walking in the flesh. Sorry, God’s will is that we respect authority whether righteous or unrighteous. Go back to 1 Peter Chapter 2… And then Peter throws in this example… 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 11 • This is a reference to the strength and might of Michael who in the Book of Jude faced off against Lucifer and didn’t exert his own authority but when arguing with Lucifer said to him, “The Lord rebuke you.” And so even in the exercising of his own power, he displayed submission and reverence to the will and power of God over his own. 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 12 – 17 • Ok, check this out, all of this under-the-surface vision that Peter wants us to have but notice, on the surface, what will they look like? “Natural brute beasts,” strong, impressive, attractive even…, “carousing in the daytime,” having a good time, doing well, smiling, maybe even laughing, cutting up…, “coursing in their own deceptions and feasting with you.” Living it up, man…fully convinced of their own stuff…what’s that look like? Confidence! Is confidence attractive? Absolutely. “Heart trained in covetous practice,” and so they know how to get what they want and they HAVE what they want. They look like wells but no water. They look like clouds, heavenly maybe, but they turn and change, even turn on you like a dime. What’s my point… Man, we gotta be on alert…because a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a false prophet, a narcissist will appeal to almost the entirety of our flesh! 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 18 – 22 • THIS. IS. MAJOR. Is Peter saying that a Christian, who knows Christ, is saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit, can be lured by a false prophet to lose their faith and therefore go to hell? No way…in a way, it’s worldy worse than that. If the enemy can’t have your soul, he’ll be just fine to take your life. • This is a Christian that has been derailed, duped, overcome and entangled and in that turned through deceit to unholiness… Traded holiness for happiness… and now, they’ve lost their marriage, their job, their ministry, their dignity, their self-respect and the respect of others…how do you recover from that? Honest truth, without surrender to the Lord, in a way and in a portion, you don’t. Your recovery, truly, will be in the life to come… And there is an avenue of your heart and life that is forever affected that a person will wrestle with and contend with and have to deal with for the rest of their lives. And this is a primary reason why people leave the ministry and all together, saved and all, stop serving the Lord. Because something about them just no longer fits…in their minds… • And this is serious to the point that Peter says, it would have been better for them to not have known what was right, having now chosen wrong…, or the internal turmoil of being duped into it all… and the affect is so incredible that although they are saved, they will forever feel like a dog or a pig in the house of God… And that is tragic. Now, God is able to restore but it is drastic and takes a drastic work of humility and repentance in the heart of the victim…possible, just very very difficult. • Ultimately, knowledge is indeed responsibility. Once you’ve been exposed to the truth, you’re accountable. And the work of the flesh, the world and the enemy is to convince you to walk in the flesh and disregard the truth of God’s Word and God’s will but that path is precisely what ruins a life. Trading holiness for happiness… and most don’t realize it until it’s too late. 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 3 · Codicia, explotación, engaño. El deseo de Dios para ti y para mí es que seamos bendecidos con lo que tengamos, ya sea mucho o poco... ¡Dios tiene la bendición de vernos bendecidos! Su deseo es enseñarnos que el gozo no proviene de lo que podemos obtener de los demás, sino de lo que podemos dar a los demás, porque Él nos ha hecho a cada uno con temor, maravilla y a Su imagen, ¡y nos ha mostrado el CAMINO a través de la cruz! · ¡Dios de ninguna manera quiere explotarte o explotarme para Sus propios propósitos, sino que más bien quiere mostrarnos que Su propósito para nuestra vida es cómo tú y yo vencemos al mundo! Alcanzar nuestro potencial dado por Dios y diseñado por Dios... y encontrar la libertad, la fuerza y la alegría de la mente, el corazón, el cuerpo y el alma. Y no hay engaño en Dios. Él te dirá la verdad de la verdad siempre, incluso cuando nos haga sentir no tan bien ... Porque al final, Él no está preocupado por mi felicidad tanto como se preocupa por mi santidad... La santidad es lo que me hará libre, no momentánea, situacional, circunstancial, circunstancial, costo de felicidad. · Es difícil, lo sé, apartarse de sí mismo y volverse a Dios porque se necesita fe... se necesita confianza... y hay que hacerse a un lado, pero la decisión es clara... para ser un falso profeta, sírvete a ti mismo... y busca toda tu vida en busca de significado y alegría. O servir al Señor, degradarse y abrazar la cruz de Jesucristo y ser liberado por completo. 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 4–9 · La extracción de estos versículos es que Dios se toma en serio esto... y el destino de los ángeles que pecaron (que cubrimos en profundidad en un estudio anterior – por favor haga referencia al estudio sobre 1 Pedro Capítulo 3 Versículos 13-22), el destino del mundo de los impíos en el tiempo de Noé, el destino de Sodoma y Gomorra, todos estos dan testimonio, advertencia y tipo de lo que va a ser el destino de aquellos que pervierten el evangelio de la gracia y viven después de sí mismos ... · Sin embargo, no es suficiente, ¿verdad? Como, estos tipos y estas imágenes, todos están allí y, sin embargo, ¡todos los días la gente lastima a las personas a diestra y siniestra en la iglesia al vivir para sí mismas y no para el Señor! ¡Es una locura! Estaba pensando en esto el otro día ... Música de los 80. La música de los 80 estaba allí cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, cuando estaba en la universidad, cuando comencé mi carrera, cuando comenzamos esta iglesia ... y ahora escucho una canción de los 80 y pienso en cómo escuché esto cuando sabía mucho menos y me gustaba... bueno, es simplemente extraño ... muchas cosas eran cognoscibles entonces... como cómo terminaría una relación o el hombre solo pensando en los errores que he cometido en el camino y cómo sería mi vida si simplemente no hubiera tomado esta decisión o aquella decisión, es un pensamiento tan salvaje ... No sé si eso tiene algún sentido... pero para mí, las advertencias y los peligros y los riesgos, no lo suficiente... Por lo tanto, soy empático y, sin embargo, todavía estoy frustrado con aquellos que deciden servirse a sí mismos hoy ... · Y aquí es donde la gracia, en cierto modo, trabaja un poco en contra de mí / nosotros ... en carne y hueso debo decir. Porque este versículo pone en exhibición que la gracia de Dios y Su misericordia y Su paciencia pueden ser completamente abusadas y confundidas por debilidad, ceguera o incluso aprobación, pero de hecho en ese error, en cierto modo, la gente está sellando su destino. Perder tal vez algo glorioso de Dios que podría haber sido su futuro. · Y, sin embargo, hay un aliento increíble aquí también de cómo Dios, incluso en medio de todas mis tonterías, carne y, en última instancia, porque ¡Soy Su hijo, salvará y proveerá para mí, no porque yo sea bueno, sino porque Él es bueno! ¿Qué? ¿Dónde? Mira el versículo http://7...lot, mira este descriptor dado para él. Dice aquí: "¡Lot justo!" ¿¡Qué!? Lot escogió dónde viviría, trabajaría, criaría a su familia no basado en la voluntad de Dios, pero dice en Génesis 13:10 que "Lot levantó los ojos y vio toda la llanura del Jordán, que estaba bien regada en todas partes (antes de que el Señor destruyera Sodoma y Gomorra) como el jardín del Señor". sólo que no era el jardín del Señor... Simplemente no levantó los ojos lo suficiente ... · Y así, se instala en Sodoma, y comienza la vida, cría a su familia... y cuando los ángeles vienen a hablarle en Sodoma, ¿dónde está? Sentado en la puerta de la ciudad. En otras palabras, era un anciano en ese momento de esa ciudad, un líder ... Pero... Nótese, Pedro nos dice que vivir allí y lo que sucedió allí "torturó su alma justa día a día", y así incluso en medio de hacer prácticamente todo lo malo ... ¿¡Dios lo llama justo!? TANTO que decir sobre eso, pero lo suficiente como para simplemente decir esto ... si Lot era justo a los ojos de Dios, ¡tengo una oportunidad! ¡JA! · Y así como Dios sabe cómo destruir al falso profeta, al malvado y al narcisista, ¡Él sabe cómo salvar a aquellos que su corazón es para el Señor! Incluso si su vida está mal ... eso es Salvaje, ¿verdad? Pero fíjate, justo Lot... que esto sea una advertencia... Música de los 80... tus decisiones, lo que finalmente haces... al ser salvado de Sodoma, LOT LO PERDIÓ TODO... y todo lo que se llevó, sus hijas, bueno, fueron el último legado de vergüenza si conoces la historia... Así que, fíjate, cualidades adicionales de los impíos... 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 10 · Esta sección, realmente hasta el final del capítulo, se vuelve tan descriptiva que no se necesita mucho comentario, pero observe que Pedro iguala caminar de acuerdo con la carne (vivir fuera de conexión con Dios, por Su voluntad, y en oposición a Sus bendiciones) con la impureza y el desprecio de la autoridad. Ok, 1 Juan 1:9 dice: "Si confesamos nuestro pecado", esa palabra en el griego es "homologeo", y significa "misma lógica", si estamos de acuerdo con Dios al respecto en lugar de justificarlo, desviarlo u ocultarlo, encubrirlo y esperar que desaparezca, pero si reconocemos que el pecado, 1 Juan 1: 9 dice que, “Él es fiel y justo para perdonarnos los pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad". Entonces, si no te sientes espiritual, emocional, mentalmente limpio hoy ... necesitas correr, esconderte, desviarte, justificar y reconocer tu pecado ante Dios... y luego, estás limpio. De vuelta en conexión con Dios, de vuelta en Su voluntad y de vuelta de acuerdo con la bendición de Dios en tu vida. TANTOS se han metido en un estilo de vida de simplemente vivir impuro y detiene tu crecimiento, te mata la alegría y te hace sin amor ... · Pedro también vincula caminar de acuerdo con la carne con la autoridad despreciadora, la voluntad propia y la presunción. ¿Cómo se ve eso? ¿Rebelión absoluta? No. Esto es quejarse, morderse la espalda, chismorrear y hablar a espaldas de alguien que Dios ha puesto en tu vida para mantener el orden, azotarte para ponerte en forma y mandarte. ¡Ja! Pero no tendremos una autoridad así, ¿verdad? ¡Somos estadounidenses! Por lo tanto, socavamos la autoridad en nuestras propias mentes al desempeñar un papel cuando están cerca y hablar mal cuando no lo están ... Eso es absolutamente caminar en la carne. Lo siento, la voluntad de Dios es que respetemos la autoridad, ya sea justa o injusta. Volver a 1 Pedro Capítulo 2... Y entonces Pedro pone este ejemplo... 2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 11 · Esta es una referencia a la fuerza y el poder de Miguel, quien en el Libro de Judas se enfrentó a Lucifer y no ejerció su propia autoridad, pero al discutir con Lucifer le dijo: "El Señor te reprenda". Cambió la santidad por la felicidad... y ahora, han perdido su matrimonio, su trabajo, su ministerio, su dignidad, su autoestima y el respeto de los demás... ¿Cómo te recuperas de eso? La verdad honesta, sin rendirte al Señor, en cierto modo y en porción, no lo haces. Tu recuperación, verdaderamente, estará en la vida venidera... Y hay una avenida de su corazón y su vida que se ve afectada para siempre con la que una persona luchará, luchará y tendrá que lidiar por el resto de sus vidas. Y esta es una razón principal por la cual las personas dejan el ministerio y todos juntos, salvos y todos, dejan de servir al Señor. Porque algo sobre ellos simplemente ya no encaja ... en sus mentes... · Y esto es grave hasta el punto de que Pedro dice, habría sido mejor para ellos no haber sabido lo que estaba bien, habiendo elegido ahora el mal ..., o la agitación interna de ser engañados en todo esto ... y el afecto es tan increíble que aunque se salven, siempre se sentirán como un perro o un cerdo en la casa de Dios ... Y eso es trágico. Ahora, Dios es capaz de restaurar, pero es drástico y toma una obra drástica de humildad y arrepentimiento en el corazón de la víctima... posible, simplemente muy muy difícil. · En última instancia, el conocimiento es de hecho responsabilidad. Una vez que has estado expuesto a la verdad, eres responsable. Y la obra de la carne, del mundo y del enemigo es convencerte de que camines en la carne y no tengas en cuenta la verdad de la Palabra de Dios y la voluntad de Dios, pero ese camino es precisamente lo que arruina una vida. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 12 - 15 • Peter is displaying for us some true marks of maturity and faithfulness…, (what he just spoke about in the previous verses), …and if you’re not careful, you can miss that. First, look at these statements; “I will not be negligent.” “I think it is right.” “I will be careful to ensure.” These are statements of great strength and great purpose and great deliberation… honestly great wisdom and understanding also… Statements only those who are giving all diligence can make… • I ask myself, are these statements that I can make? That in the things that I should be faithful, can I say with confidence that I am not negligent? Am I able to take hold of who I am and what I am about and say in truth that I think it is right? Am I careful, contemplative, even strategic to ensure those around me have what they need? A good temperature check if I am striving to live for the Lord. • And on top of that, these are statements of intense faithfulness, personal faithfulness, between Peter and Jesus. How so? Well, it goes back to one of the last things Jesus said to Peter. Before Jesus was betrayed, that night in the upper room, Jesus’ final meal amongst His disciples, He turns to Peter (and you find this in Luke 22:31-32), “The Lord said, ‘Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.’” • Peter at that point put up a fight, “No way I would ever betray You!” But we all know how that played out. But here he is, years later, and this word used in 2 Peter 1:12 for “established,” it’s the same word Jesus used in Luke 22… Peter establishing/strengthening his brethren just as Jesus had told him to do so many years ago. He is being faithful to what Jesus has asked of him… This is perhaps one of the most personal statements of Peter found in his letters for that reason… • And so, Peter ministers and serves with personal passion and intense love for the Lord and private faithfulness and connection between himself and Jesus…and please hear me in this…man, that’s the only way to do it! There is such a goodness there and in that…that is totally missing from a ministry that is served out of sense of religious duty or some sort of obligation… • And Peter comments here that he must shortly put off his tent, just as Jesus showed him. What he’s talking about there is what Peter witnessed, along with James and John, directly after Jesus shared with His disciples that He would be killed but raised again to life. And Peter objected! “Never, Lord! That could never, should never happen to You!” • But Jesus rebuked Peter and said to him yes it will and whoever wants to be one of His disciples, they too would need to, have to, be willing to, actually do this…take up their own cross, and be willing to give their life also. And right after saying that, in Matthew 16:28, Jesus makes this odd statement, “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom.” • The next scene recorded for us in Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospels, Jesus takes Peter, James and John with Him up to what is described for us in the Bible as a “high mountain.” That mountain remains unnamed and we don’t know exactly where or which one they were taken to but we call this mountain, because of what happens next, the Mount of Transfiguration. And what we see next is what Jesus was talking about with His odd statement and what Peter recalls for us in his letter… • We read in Matthew 17:2, “He was transfigured before them.” The word in the Greek is “metamorphoo,” and it literally means to transform! Was Optimus Prime a Mack Truck? No! That was his unrevealed form…was Jesus simply a man capable of miraculous works? No! He was God, the Son of the Kingdom, the Creator…! It’s been said that the real miracle was not the Transfiguration but that Jesus was able to conceal His glory all of the other times… • And so, continuing in Matthew 17, “He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.” Listen to how the Message renders this scene, “Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from His face. His clothes were filled with light!” • A momentary awesome revelation of the Son of man standing in His kingdom! And Peter remembers that…calling this present form, even Jesus’ Mack Truck, a tent, knowing, because he saw it, that there awaits him just as Jesus showed him, something much much better, much less temporary, without corruption or sickness…or stiffness, or soreness or arthritisis…ha! • And just one more short thing on this verse set… Peter speaks of his own death here in the end of verse 15 but interestingly and awesomely, he doesn’t use the common word for death which in the Greek is “thantos.” Peter uses the word “exodus.” You see, what he knew, what the Bible promises, what Jesus secured for each of us by His blood, is that one day we won’t die, we will leave. We will move. And move out of this tent and into the mystery only described as a mansion by Jesus in John 14… • Jesus said in John 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” Now we understand a bit better, to our hope of joy, what Jesus was talking about that day. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 16 - 18 • (“Excellent Glory” was perhaps the most extra word Peter could think of to use what he experienced that day. It’s a five-syllable mountain of a word in the Greek, “megaloprepes.”) This is a conversation that can only be very quite short because if you want to remain ignorant, you will…and if you want to see and know…you will. I mean it really is that simple. No one comes to faith but by faith and the definition of faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, and so if you aren’t looking for it specifically in and with hope then the fact of the matter is you simply won’t see and this absurd thought of the gospel and power and eye witness accounts and today’s life witness accounts you will call cunningly devised fables (or sophisticated myths) as the literal translation reads. • Which, first of all, I have an issue with. Marvel Studios Avengers End Game is a sophisticated myth. A man with no home, no money, no earthly position and power, gets crucified and three days later rises from the grave proclaiming in Him is eternal life and God, rather than just buttoning this whole thing up and fixing everything in a Thanos snap chose to show that He loves us to death by lowering Himself to just that…, I’m sorry…sophisticated? Arguable… • On top of that, if the account of Jesus, His life, death and resurrection were only a fable then by now, some 2,000 years later, by now some disastrous flaw would have been discovered to cause this whole thing to be discarded and yet there’s not a stone in this story that hasn’t been excavated, examined and scrutinized and yet the gospel, the church, the worldwide faith remains. And oh by the way, the gospel is still changing lives, saving lives, turning lives from waste to exceedingly great purpose and freedom of mind, soul, body and spirit! • Not to mention the faithfulness of the apostles unto death, even Judas…. So yea, very very very quick discussion… • And notice, Peter says here something striking. He says, “For He received from God the Father honor and glory,” which scripturally is either a problem or a revelation. Why? Isaiah 42:8, “I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another.” And so, we either have a disastrous problem and biblical contradiction or we have a revelation. That somehow God the Father and God the Son are One. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 19 • That’s where the gospel makes a difference. That’s where the Word of God makes a difference. That’s really the only place where anything is going to make a difference in anyone…. Not in the world. Not in the church. Not in your home. If it’s not rising and shining in your heart, it will make no difference in your life, family, ministry, job or situation. • Pudding proof… Did the statement of God the Father from His Excellent Glory save or change or christianize Peter, James and John? Nope… I mean, what other sign could be stronger! What did change them? When they personally received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit! 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 20 – 21 • I like this to the point of loving it. Every word of every line in every verse in every chapter is discoverable and understandable by each of us because no one in here is going to get it privately. All truth is evident and can be confirmed by others. • God has intended for His promises to be known, for truth to be understood and for each of us, that want to know, that each of us will know! How? Why? Because the Word of God is not the Word of man…given not by expertise or experience or learned knowledge, but by the Creator who coded it in the language of faith… And men of God spoke, received the understanding, got the message, eyes were opened, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. • Moved is a nautical term… It means a sail powered and driven by the strength of the wind… Perhaps its time for you to raise yours… 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 12 - 15 · Pedro nos está mostrando algunas verdaderas marcas de madurez y fidelidad..., (de lo que acaba de hablar en los versículos anteriores), ... y si no tienes cuidado, puedes perderte eso. Esta es quizás una de las declaraciones más personales de Pedro que se encuentran en sus cartas por esa razón... · Y así, Pedro ministra y sirve con pasión personal e intenso amor por el Señor y fidelidad privada y conexión entre él y Jesús... y por favor escúchame en esto... hombre, ¡esa es la única manera de hacerlo! Hay tal bondad allí y en eso ... eso está totalmente ausente de un ministerio que se sirve por sentido del deber religioso o algún tipo de obligación ... · Y Pedro comenta aquí que pronto debe guardar su tienda, tal como Jesús le mostró. De lo que está hablando es de lo que Pedro presenció, junto con Santiago y Juan, directamente después de que Jesús compartió con Sus discípulos que Él sería asesinado pero resucitado a la vida. ¡Y Pedro se opuso! "¡Nunca, Señor! ¡Eso nunca, nunca debería sucederte a Ti!" · Pero Jesús reprendió a Pedro y le dijo que sí, que lo haría y que quien quiera ser uno de sus discípulos, ellos también necesitarían hacerlo, tendrían que hacerlo, estarían dispuestos a hacerlo... tomen su propia cruz, y estén dispuestos a dar su vida también. Y justo después de decir eso en Mateo 16:28, Jesús hace esta extraña declaración: "Ciertamente, te digo, hay algunos parados aquí que no probarán la muerte hasta que vean venir al Hijo del Hombre en Su Reino". · La siguiente escena grabada para nosotros en los Evangelios de Mateo y Lucas, Jesús lleva a Pedro, Santiago y Juan con Él hasta lo que se describe para nosotros en la Biblia como una "alta montaña". Esa montaña permanece sin nombre y no sabemos exactamente a dónde o a cuál fueron llevados, pero llamamos a esta montaña, debido a lo que sucede a continuación, el Monte de la Transfiguración. Y Pedro recuerda que... llamando a esta forma presente, incluso al Camión Mack de Jesús, una tienda de campaña, sabiendo, porque él lo vio, que allí le espera tal como Jesús le mostró, algo mucho mejor, mucho menos temporal, sin corrupción ni enfermedad... o rigidez, o dolor o artritis... ¡ja! · Y solo una cosa corta más en este conjunto de versículos ... Pedro habla de su propia muerte aquí al final del versículo 15, pero de manera interesante y sorprendente, no usa la palabra común para muerte que en griego es "thantos". Pedro usa la palabra "éxodo". Verás, lo que él sabía, lo que la Biblia promete, lo que Jesús aseguró para cada uno de nosotros por Su sangre, es que un día no moriremos, nos iremos. Nos moveremos. Y sal de esta tienda y entra en el misterio que jesús solo describe como una mansión en Juan 14... · Jesús dijo en Juan 11:25-26: "Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en Mí, aunque muera, vivirá. Y el que vive y cree en Mí, nunca morirá." Ahora entendemos un poco mejor, para nuestra esperanza de gozo, de lo que Jesús estaba hablando ese día. 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 16 - 18 · ("Excelente gloria" fue quizás la palabra más extra que Pedro pudo pensar para usar lo que experimentó ese día. Es una montaña de cinco sílabas de una palabra en griego, "megaloprepes"). Esta es una conversación que solo puede ser muy corta porque si quieres permanecer ignorante, lo harás ... y si quieres ver y conocer... lo harás. Quiero decir que realmente es así de simple. No... Quiero decir, ¡qué otro signo podría ser más fuerte! ¿Qué los cambió? ¡Cuando recibieron personalmente la presencia que mora en el Espíritu Santo! 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 20–21 · Me gusta esto hasta el punto de amarlo. Cada palabra de cada línea en cada versículo de cada capítulo es detectable y comprensible por cada uno de nosotros porque nadie aquí lo va a obtener en privado. Toda verdad es evidente y puede ser confirmada por otros. · ¡Dios ha querido que sus promesas sean conocidas, que la verdad sea entendida y para cada uno de nosotros, que queremos saber, que cada uno de nosotros lo sepa! ¿Cómo? ¿Por qué? Porque la Palabra de Dios no es la Palabra del hombre... dada no por la pericia o la experiencia o el conocimiento aprendido, sino por el Creador que lo codificó en el lenguaje de la fe... Y los hombres de Dios hablaron, recibieron el entendimiento, recibieron el mensaje, los ojos se abrieron, ya que fueron movidos por el Espíritu Santo. · Movido es un término náutico... Significa una vela impulsada e impulsada por la fuerza del viento... Tal vez sea hora de que levantes el tuyo ...

2 Peter 1 vs 5-11

I want to give you two facts about spiritual growth as we begin today. First, spiritual growth has nothing to do with age. Spiritual growth has everything to do with your level of personal commitment (meaning submission and surrender) to the will of God. Second, you can grow as much as you want to grow! Salvation as a work is entirely upon God, but growing up in the faith is entirely upon me! Peter wrote in 1 Peter Chapter 2 verse 5, (check this out), “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” Think of your strength of faith (spiritual maturity) as a building. Every building project must have an investor, someone who finances the thing. In your case, that is God. He has invested His divine power and His divine promises. You can grow/build as much as you ultimately want to because you have access to His divine power. The same power that raised the dead. The same power that created the earth and everything in it. The same power that spoke all things into existence…yea, that power. What God expects you to attempt, He also empowers you (provides the power) for you to achieve. You just have to believe Him. Which leads us to His second investment. His divine promises. What are God’s divine promises? Nothing at all aside from His Word. The Word of God is indeed the promise and promises of God. Here’s where a huge play comes in on your end. Will you learn His Word and will you apply/believe what God has said? God’s divine power is His account, God’s Word, His promises are His checks. Will you cash them? If I wrote you a check for $1M after church today, a personal check from my personal account, you would take that to the bank and they would laugh at you! “This account is $15 short, sorry!” HA, not really!! But if Jeff Bezos wrote that personal check to you, no problem… God’s Word contains His commitments and growing up in faith is all about trusting God, cashing those checks, finding out how faithful and true He is, and essentially, growing in spiritual wealth. So, we have the investment, the backing, and in verses 5-9, Peter hooks us up with the building plans… 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 5 • If you are to grow then you are to apply all diligence. You must make this serious and go after it for yourself. This means MAX EFFORT! One spring a family was driving from Ft. Lauderdale to Tampa, Florida. As far as the eye could see, orange trees were loaded with fruit. When they stopped for breakfast, the mom ordered orange juice with her breakfast. "I'm sorry," the waitress said. "I can't bring you orange juice. Our machine is broken." • They were dumbfounded. Surrounded by millions of oranges, oranges in the kitchen and orange slices garnished on their plates. What was the problem? No juice? Hardly. They were surrounded by thousands of gallons of juice. The problem was they had become dependent on a machine to get it. • Christians are sometimes like that. We are surrounded by Bibles in our homes, entertained by fantastic bible teachers…but if something should happen to their smartphone or favorite pastor, they would have no nourishment for their souls. The problem is not a lack of spiritual food; but that many Christians have not and won’t apply personal diligence, discipline to get it for themselves. And that lack of diligence applied to faith, shows up rampant in a life… • You need to know… Spiritual growth is the work of the moment. If you won’t be faithful now, if you won’t be disciplined now, then you will not grow up, you will not develop in your faith. Don’t live your life seeing others set free with love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control thinking “God’s working on me, I’m a work in progress…” It’s like you’re on the sidelines talking about “I got next,” NO MAN, its “I got now!” • It’s there, it’s already granted to you through Christ. Your history, your life will be the record of your personal encounter between character and circumstance…not just circumstance. If you refuse to be diligent then you’re going to miss the growth… • Now, if you are not yearning for diligence in your walk with God then you have not yet given Him your heart…you’ve just given Him your belief. Not enough. No power there…You’ve received grace. Through Jesus Christ, God’s grace is yours! To walk with Him and activate that grace, access the divine nature that you’ve been granted and grow up, you must follow the building plans, you must give all diligence… • Listen, all this is not for salvation, this is for strength, maturity, growth. In your faith…you’re already saved…add to your faith…this is what YOU must supply. You have every bit of potential you need, the entire code…but if you don’t supply the soil then the seed has no place to express its potential. You’re not adding onto what God has done….your job is to provide the environment so that all that God has done can develop and can flourish! • You ever buy juice concentrate? A whole jug of juice is in this 4 ounces of ice. But unless you add water…you can’t even enjoy it! All of the juice is there already…the water adds no juice…it just creates the capacity for you to actually use it…benefit from it! • So, you and I are to supply…virtue. Virtue means moral courage and moral excellence! Giving something what it needs to fulfill what it was designed to do…that’s giving virtue. If you think of a seed, giving it water and good soil, that is to give it virtue. 2 Peter 3:18, “Grow in grace and in the knowledge…to Him be the glory.” You were made in your divine nature to bring glory to God. If you want the seed in your Spirit to breakthrough and grow…you must add to your salvation the goal and desire and FIRE to bring glory to God. You must live with the consciousness of glorifying God. “How does this reflect God? Bring Him attention? Put the cam on Him?” When you become aware of the purpose to glorify God you have added moral excellence and moral courage will follow. God will not force you to do this…but this is step one in your development. • We need help in this, don’t we? We need Godly men/women around us that not only can be an example and a good influence but can also pull our card if we are slipping. We hate that don’t we? In the flesh our pride gets slapped…but remember, Proverbs 12:1, “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” HA. Pretty clear isn’t it?! Who in your life has the correction card for your heart? Someone you’ll listen to and obey? We all need these people in our lives…it’s been said, accountability feels like an attack when you’re not ready to acknowledge how your behavior is harming others. Know what that sounds like to me? A baby. Surround yourself with those who are on the same mission as you and obey one another in the Lord and as unto the Lord. • Then he says, add to your virtue, knowledge! We get it backwards! As you seek to glorify God….and THEN add information…what happens? You learn how to glorify God more! You become a master in it! MBA…Master Born Again! If you get it backwards…growing in knowledge, taking in bible study after bible study but none of it is changing your heart, none of it with the goal/aim/purpose to glorify God…then you become a monster! 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 6 • By the way, this will happen naturally…that’s why it’s in this order….one will lead to the other. Activate moral courage…leverage your knowledge of truth and use those to turn the crank of self-control! Honor God in the moment because the moment you realize you’re numb to sin, its too late. Its tragic to see that played out… • The first time you grumble in your heart towards someone else and it goes unchecked…you feel terrible about it. Over here at the prayer meeting crying out to God for forgiveness! But if you lack self-control and diligence and do it again and again you dull to it over time and end up outwardly expressing evil and name calling and all that…outbursts of wrath and finally just being cruel and damaging! • That’s indicative of a heart that is not growing but rather dulling and where did it all begin…a small insignificant moment of no diligence, no moral excellence and a lapse in self-control…remember this…the simplest steps of faith will build the most solid of foundations! • From self control comes…. Add to that perseverance. Hang in there. Don’t quit. Always this is related to trials. In the Bible, this word comes along with trials. But if you have put into motion all that has proceeded this…you can grit it out, trusting God…knowing His promises are LEGIT! Better than grit it out, thrive even! • Folks wondering why they can’t persevere…you’ve yet to grow in grace…you’re not activating that grace through a real walk with God and therefore diligence, moral courage, knowledge, self-control…all still in seed form…so why would you expect to harvest the fruit of perseverance? Here’s a secret…the worse things get…the closer you are to whatever God is trying to do…trust Him…return to grace…plant the seed in the good soil of closeness to Jesus and diligence of the will! Here’s the image of perseverance, last man standing after the battle is done! • Peter gives to us what he himself has found through grace and diligence…through moral courage/excellence, knowledge of the truth, self-control and perseverance…he says then add godliness…because the temptation when you are persevering is to bail out on God. The most godly thing you could ever do is not bail out on God…its exactly how Jesus saved you…its exactly what got Him through the cross… • Now comes the things folks can see. Isn’t that interesting? I like to stay in shape. I like to say that I like to stay in shape so that my heart is healthy and all that jazz…but nobody can see that… What truly motivates me to hit the gym each day? My wife taking a second look at me when I’m shaving in the morning…holllllaaaaarrrrr!!! I want to jump right to what people can see but that’s not how God works…he works from that implanted seed of His divine nature…outwardly. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 7 • Let me tell you again, please …this will come quite naturally at this point…find a brother/sister who is going through something similar to you and minister to them. Selflessly pour into someone else. I know what you’re thinking…I need someone to pour into me…, but the Bible says “give and it shall be given to you.” As much as you need it…minister to someone else! Whatever you are need of, give! I know it doesn’t make sense because you have a need…but that is Godly and that seed is breaking through and slapping with defiance the devil! • Can I just add this too…do SOMETHING! Are you active in your church? Do something! God has to deliver us from a Sunday Morning only spectator mentality about the Christian faith! Being a Christian is not dependent upon, nor is it summed up by, sitting in a comfy seat and looking bored at a preacher. That isn’t true Christian faith and it certainly isn’t growth and development! The Christian faith is living alive. Living with some grit of grace and character on earth and with a desire and heart for heaven on earth! Practical steps to growth include these three things…if you have only two you will topple…be in the Word (doer), be a person of prayer…and serve at your church! • Then, at the end, the apex of development, what you want to do the most because it never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever fails…love. Brotherly kindness is to a brother. Someone who is on your side…on your team…you don’t mind talking to them, dealing with them…but God demonstrated His love towards us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). This love is folks you don’t necessarily like…. Ministry to the irregular people in your life…serving those that do not in any way serve you. You are developing! You’re acting exactly why Jesus came to die! God’s nature is being reflected in your spirit. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 8 • Knowledge…, this is first hand, this is ME experience, epiginosis. You will become a fruit bearer. You will empirically have knowledge of Jesus. There are many Christians with no fruit. Nothing coming out of your lives that God can use. Why would God bless a life that isn’t usable? • Couple three things about fruit. Fruit is always visible. You can always see it, experience it…Second, fruit always bears the character of the tree that it is a part of. Third, fruit is always to the benefit of someone else. Fruit that eats itself is rotten fruit. 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 9 - 11 • If you don’t add these qualities, you’re thinking only short term. You don’t have the big picture. You don’t get it…you’re in 5th grade and done…try to go get a job! Fruitful life, meaningful life, a life that glorifies and puts on blast the power and heart and truth and eternal strength of Jesus Christ! That’s the big picture. And even worse, you will forget even the cross. Whenever you do that…you won’t now see the need at all for Jesus over time… The cost of the cross was too high to forget. Someone picked up the tab for your eternal life. Paid in full…paid at Calvary…and you have the ability to make that payment fruitful in your own life…you have the ability, the calling, everything you need to grow up, bear much fruit and glorify God…if you don’t you’ve forgotten the price paid overall… And really, if you don’t NOT A PERSON ON EARTH TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF. Where does it start? With you. The cross is in the past, isn’t it? God’s part is done…it starts, development, growth, strength, breakthrough…it’s on you… Have you received the grace of God and is your motive and directive to grow up in that first? Good. Now add some diligence. Seek the Lord. Submit your flesh…not submit to it…and moral courage will flourish. Spend time in the word. No one on this earth should have to tell you to do that! Be a person of prayer. God cannot use a person that He cannot speak with…. Serve at your church. DO something…and if you are one to kick up trouble then recognize your diapers man…and either own it or grow out of it. Work forward in your walk. Develop in your faith…stop trying and start dying…and see what God can do with a heart, your heart…completely defaulted to him. A heart, your heart…grown. His promise here, His check written to you and to me that God pleads with us to cash, is that an entrance will be provided to you TODAY abundantly into the everlasting Kingdom of the Prince of Peace and the Prince of Power!!

The Seed of Grace

I heard a story once about a young man that was eager to grow in his Christian life. He got a piece of paper and made a list of all the things he would do for God. He wrote down the things he would give up, the places he would stop going to and the places that he would begin to visit for ministry purposes. He was excited, energized…and that Sunday he took that list and shared it with his pastor. He thought he would feel joy but instead he somehow felt empty about it… So, he went home and started adding to his list. He wrote down more things he would do and more things he wouldn’t do any longer. He took the longer list and shared it the next Sunday again with his pastor. He left feeling about the same. The next Sunday he asked for prayer…unsure why he wasn’t getting any traction… The pastor said to him, “Take a blank sheet of paper, sign your name at the bottom, bring that.” Growing in the Lord is critical in the life of a Christian. If you are a Christian today, because we can’t expect growth in the Lord if you aren’t in the Lord, growth means life. It means that there is life in your faith. Not just heart-beat life but meaning, reality, purpose, even inspiration. All the things we all chase after in so many ways. And while growth is so very important, it is possible to grow improperly. In fact, the enemy would like nothing more… What do I mean? Well, you can grow callous. You can grow cold. You can grow tired. All of those are yet growth, but improper. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, “According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Christ Jesus.” Peter writes in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” The courage to grow requires the courage to let go. Peter says in verse 2 of chapter 1, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you,” and then in verses 3 through 9, he charts out for us the pathway of peace, the Google Maps of grace…, “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control,” and on… Saying that if we are on this course, if we have chosen and embarked on this direction, then we will neither be barren (ineffective) nor unfruitful (without purpose), we won’t be short-sided, we’ll have understanding, see the big picture and mature, move on from old and destructive ways, continually. Habitually and as a pattern of our lives. That is growth… But in the middle of these two exhortations, these two teaching, Peter slips in a critical component to this entire process recipe. He says in verse 3 of 2 Peter 1, and this is the shocker, “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.” Everything you need to become all you were meant to be, you already possess. Some of us, most Christians (I have experienced), want multiplied peace and grace in their lives. Most Christians I have ever met want to grow in maturity. And most Christians I have ever met want to live effective, inspiring and purpose-filled lives. Lives that glorify God. Most desire to be happy. And most Christians I have ever met are going about all of that looking for something you already have! Thinking you’re missing something or must do something… Here's the power and the property and the reward of the cross for anyone that has come to and accepted Jesus Christ. Your sheet of paper has been wiped clean and all that is required of you and of me to be right with God and to receive His promises and to receive His blessings and to receive His calling…because of grace, because of and through Jesus, He has already given. Peter says He has given us everything…it has been granted by God to us…everything you need to meet all of life’s demands…all of all you should be…the problem is if you don’t know you already have it, you go looking in places to get what you already have…adding to it, working for it….and not only do you not find it, but you are distracted and rather than growing up, you and I grow defective. When a baby is born, they are yet undeveloped…but everything they are going to be is already coded there in that DNA. You don’t have to go looking for arms, legs, eyes, etc. Everything that life is going to need to be a life is there already…to become a full-grown person, it’s all already there. The only thing that stops you from knowing everything that is there is development, which I’ll also call growth. The process of development brings out everything that was put in there in the first place. I don’t know what you’re looking for but let me tell you, it’s already there. Peace, joy, productivity, wisdom, happiness, purpose, strength of character and strength over sin…its already there. Why can’t I find it, then? You’re not looking in the place where it was put! All that we need to address every bit of life’s issues the Bible says He has granted you through Jesus Christ! It says here, Peter revealed to us here what he has found…and he says, “His divine power!” Everything you need to become all that you desire to be, you already have, you’re just not growing up in it, developing in it and so there are issues of your life and avenues of your heart that remain immature and even big-babyish! Look at 2 Peter 1:4. The location of everything He has granted is located in the “divine nature.” Your nature is your core being…your OS. God is Spirit…and so you cannot attach the divine nature primarily to your body or your soul (this is what religion seeks to do and why religion has failed and powerless in its true/revealed form)… All of our body/souls are decaying by sin and circumstance – we are distorted by this world…the corruption of this world… On your best day you are looking at life through distortion. The thing that is supposed to sort it all out is your spirit. The problem is that we are born into this world spiritually dead. Unable to make contact with God. We are born with signal blocked…and so your soul had and has nothing to look to except the world we live in…your soul starts to look like what has happened to you…and everyone has a soul that has been damaged by the corruption of this world. So, God quickened your human spirit by an infusion of His Holy Spirit…by being BORN AGAIN. Receiving the Spirit of God. 2 Cor 5:17. God gave you a new Spirit…He did not give you a new soul! What happened to Jesus is an example of what happens to you. The seed of the woman, the spirit of God. Think of Jesus. You have a man that can walk on water yet gets thirsty. You have a man that can produce food for thousands but He Himself is hungry. You have a man that in Him is the creation and thought and personification of love and joy and yet He weeps over the grave of His friend. Integrated into your DNA is the DNA of deity. If I have that much God in me, why can’t I locate Him? Why can’t I make it work? Why am I always defeated? 1 Peter 1:23. “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.” You have been born again through an incorruptible seed! When God’s Spirit entered your spirit…you got a new nature, but in seed form. And the only way you come to discover a brand-new life that has been conceived is through development. If the seed doesn’t grow and produce life it’s not because it’s not alive, it’s because it’s not being developed and cultivated by its environment! So, the reason we are not experiencing the deity of God in our Spirit is because we are satisfied to remain in seed form. Or, we just don’t know this…. But here is how it’s supposed to go. Your spirit grows up in the things of the Lord, through an increasing knowledge of the grace of God and the fact that Jesus is and has done it all… And in that, the Spirit dictates through grace and knowledge to your soul how it should think, make decisions, react, decipher, discern…and then your soul begins to change the physical things of your life by commanding your body…your flesh. All of a sudden, grace and peace multiplied! Barrenness flees, fruitfulness abounds… That’s how it’s supposed to work! But if the Spirit remains in seed form, the soul never changes. There’s only a change in the soul when there is development in the Spirit. Therapy, medicine, soul management…is not the solution. God wants to change your soul but the key to that is the development and growth of a man/woman in the spirit. From here on out…I want you to stop saying, “I need to change,” and start saying, “I need to grow.” What we do not need is/are new programs or culturally relevant/cliché new ways to get the same information. What we do need is personal discipline and we need spiritual environment! All of your potential is in the seed. Think of a corn stalk. All those ears of corn come from 1 seed, and 14 cycles will cover the earth! The DNA of God will overcome and overwhelm all the things of your heart and certainly in your life…but it has to grow! It terrifies me to be in the same position next year that I am this year. Why? Because the Bible says thanks be to God who always leads us in victory…and as we behold God’s glory in our lives (2 Corinthians 3:18) we are supposed to be constantly being transformed from glory to glory…so if I find myself in the same place year after year, month after month, then no matter what I think, however much I study, however many sermons I preach and however many counseling sessions I hold…I am not being led by God. I hate the treadmill of truth…always learning and learning but going nowhere…never able to come to the knowledge of it…walk in it…that kind of life gets me nowhere. Here’s what I know…in the whole history of the church, there has never been one single man/woman that has been strong and NOT lived the Bible. Here’s what I know, I can’t go back and change the beginning, but I can start right where I’m at and change the ending. Here’s what I know…It’s not about how much we have lost…it’s about how much we have left. Here’s what I know. It’s not about what I do or don’t do, it’s about growing towards the understanding of what Jesus has done. The woman at the well… Jesus was in the wrong place (Samaria). He was in a wrong state (isolated and alone). He was doing the wrong thing (talking to a single and sinful woman). And He did the wrong thing. Gave her grace, mercy and acceptance rather than justice. And yet it was exactly right in all ways. Perfect in fact. And His words to her were, (John 4:10), “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have GIVEN you living water.” So, do you have the courage? The courage to let go? Accept the grace of God through the Person of Jesus Christ? That’s where it all starts…. Blank sheet of paper… that’s not only the record of all of your sin in Jesus Christ, but that’s also what is owed to you…AND…all that you can do to earn it for yourself… Are you willing to sign? Una vez escuché una historia sobre un joven que estaba ansioso por crecer en su vida cristiana. Consiguió un pedazo de papel e hizo una lista de todas las cosas que haría por Dios. Escribió las cosas a las que renunciaría, los lugares a los que dejaría de ir y los lugares que comenzaría a visitar con fines ministeriales. Estaba emocionado, lleno de energía ... y ese domingo tomó esa lista y la compartió con su pastor. Pensó que sentiría alegría, pero en cambio de alguna manera se sintió vacío al respecto ... Entonces, se fue a casa y comenzó a agregar a su lista. Escribió más cosas que haría y más cosas que ya no haría. Tomó la lista más larga y la compartió el domingo siguiente nuevamente con su pastor. Se fue sintiendo más o menos lo mismo. El domingo siguiente pidió oración... no estaba seguro de por qué no estaba obteniendo ninguna tracción ... El pastor le dijo: "Toma una hoja de papel en blanco, firma tu nombre en la parte inferior, trae eso". Crecer en el Señor es fundamental en la vida de un cristiano. Si eres cristiano hoy, porque no podemos esperar crecimiento en el Señor si no estás en el Señor, el crecimiento significa vida. Significa que hay vida en tu fe. No solo la vida palpitante del corazón, sino el significado, la realidad, el propósito, incluso la inspiración. Todas las cosas que todos perseguimos de muchas maneras. Y aunque el crecimiento es muy importante, es posible crecer incorrectamente. De hecho, al enemigo no le gustaría nada más ... ¿A qué me refiero? Bueno, puedes volverte insensible. Puedes enfriarte. Puedes cansarte. Todos esos son todavía crecimiento, pero impropios. Pablo dijo en 1 Corintios 3:10-11: "Según la gracia de Dios que me fue dada, como constructor sabio he puesto los cimientos, y otro edifica sobre ella. Pero que cada uno preste atención a cómo construye sobre él. Porque ningún otro fundamento puede poner nadie que el que ya está puesto, que es Cristo Jesús". Pedro escribe en 2 Pedro 3:18: "Pero creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo". El coraje para crecer requiere el coraje para dejarlo ir. Pedro dice en el versículo 2 del capítulo 1: "La gracia y la paz se multipliquen para ti", y luego en los versículos 3 al 9, traza para nosotros el camino de la paz, el Google Maps de la gracia ..., "Dando toda diligencia, agregue a su fe virtud, al conocimiento de la virtud, al autocontrol del conocimiento", y así sucesivamente ... Decir que si estamos en este curso, si hemos elegido y emprendido esta dirección, entonces no seremos estériles (ineficaces) ni infructuosos (sin propósito), no seremos cortos, tendremos comprensión, veremos el panorama general y maduraremos, pasaremos de las viejas y destructivas formas, continuamente. Habitualmente y como patrón de nuestras vidas. Eso es crecimiento... Pero en medio de estas dos exhortaciones, estas dos enseñanzas, Pedro desliza un componente crítico de toda esta receta de proceso. Él dice en el versículo 3 de 2 Pedro 1, y esto es lo sorprendente: "Su poder divino nos ha dado todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad". Todo lo que necesitas para convertirte en todo lo que estabas destinado a ser, ya lo posees. Algunos de nosotros, la mayoría de los cristianos (yo lo he experimentado), queremos paz y gracia multiplicadas en sus vidas. La mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido quieren crecer en madurez. Y la mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido quieren vivir vidas efectivas, inspiradoras y llenas de propósito. Vidas que glorifican a Dios. La mayoría desea ser feliz. ¡Y la mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido están haciendo todo eso buscando algo que ya tienes! Pensando que te falta algo o que debes hacer algo... Aquí está el poder, la propiedad y la recompensa de la cruz para cualquiera que haya venido y aceptado a Jesucristo. Tu hoja de papel ha sido limpiada y todo lo que se requiere de ti y de mí para estar bien con Dios y recibir Sus promesas y recibir Sus bendiciones y recibir Su llamamiento... por gracia, y a través y por medio de Jesús, Él ya ha dado. Pedro dice que nos lo ha dado todo... nos ha sido concedida por Dios... todo lo que necesitas para satisfacer todas las demandas de la vida... todo lo que deberías ser... el problema es que si no sabes que ya lo tienes, vas buscando en lugares para conseguir lo que ya tienes... añadiéndole, trabajando para ello... y no solo no lo encuentras, sino que estás distraído y en lugar de crecer, tú y yo nos volvemos defectuosos. Cuando nace un bebé, aún no está desarrollado... pero todo lo que van a ser ya está codificado allí en ese ADN. No tienes que ir a buscar brazos, piernas, ojos, etc. Todo lo que la vida va a necesitar para ser una vida ya está ahí... para convertirse en una persona adulta, todo ya está allí. Lo único que te impide saber todo lo que hay es el desarrollo, que también llamaré crecimiento. El proceso de desarrollo saca a relucir todo lo que se puso allí en primer lugar. No sé lo que estás buscando, pero déjame decirte que ya está allí. Paz, alegría, productividad, sabiduría, felicidad, propósito, fortaleza de carácter y fortaleza sobre el pecado... ya está allí. ¿Por qué no puedo encontrarlo, entonces? ¡No estás buscando en el lugar donde se puso! ¡Todo lo que necesitamos para abordar cada parte de los problemas de la vida que la Biblia dice que Él te ha concedido a través de Jesucristo! Dice aquí, Pedro nos reveló aquí lo que ha encontrado... y dice: "¡Su poder divino!" Todo lo que necesitas para convertirte en todo lo que deseas ser, ya lo tienes, simplemente no estás creciendo en él, desarrollándote en él, por lo que hay problemas de tu vida y avenidas de tu corazón que permanecen inmaduros e incluso de bebé grande. Mira 2 Pedro 1:4. La ubicación de todo lo que Él ha concedido se encuentra en la "naturaleza divina". Tu naturaleza es tu ser central... Dios es Espíritu... y así no puedes unir la naturaleza divina principalmente a tu cuerpo o tu alma (esto es lo que la religión busca hacer y por qué la religión ha fallado e impotente en su forma verdadera / revelada) ... Todo nuestro cuerpo/almas se está descomponiendo por el pecado y las circunstancias – estamos distorsionados por este mundo... la corrupción de este mundo... En tu mejor día estás mirando la vida a través de la distorsión. Lo que se supone que debe resolverlo todo es tu espíritu. El problema es que nacemos en este mundo espiritualmente muertos. Incapaz de hacer contacto con Dios. Nacemos con la señal bloqueada... y así tu alma no tenía y no tiene nada a lo que mirar excepto el mundo en el que vivimos... tu alma comienza a parecerse a lo que te ha sucedido... y todos tienen un alma que ha sido dañada por la corrupción de este mundo. Entonces, Dios vivifica tu espíritu humano por una infusión de Su Espíritu Santo…al NACER DE NUEVO. Recibiendo el Espiritu de Dios. 2 Corintios 5:17. Dios te dio un nuevo Espíritu... ¡Él no te dio una nueva alma! Lo que le sucedió a Jesús es un ejemplo de lo que le sucede a usted. La simiente de la mujer, el espíritu de Dios. Piensa en Jesús. Tienes un hombre que puede caminar sobre el agua pero tiene sed. Tienes un hombre que puede producir alimentos para miles de personas, pero Él mismo tiene hambre. Tienes un hombre que en Él es la creación, el pensamiento y la personificación del amor y el gozo y, sin embargo, Él llora sobre la tumba de Su amigo. Integrado en tu ADN está el ADN de la deidad. Si tengo tanto de Dios en mí, ¿por qué no puedo localizarlo? ¿Por qué no puedo hacer que funcione? ¿Por qué siempre estoy derrotado? 1 Pedro 1:23. "Habiendo nacido de nuevo, no de semilla corruptible sino incorruptible, por medio de la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece para siempre". ¡Has nacido de nuevo a través de una semilla incorruptible! Cuando el Espíritu de Dios entró en tu espíritu... tienes una nueva naturaleza, pero en forma de semilla. Y la única forma de descubrir una nueva vida que ha sido concebida es a través del desarrollo. Si la semilla no crece y produce vida no es porque no esté viva, ¡es porque no está siendo desarrollada y cultivada por su entorno! Entonces, la razón por la que no estamos experimentando la deidad de Dios en nuestro Espíritu es porque estamos satisfechos de permanecer en forma de semilla. O simplemente no lo sabemos... Pero así es como se supone que debe ir. Tu espíritu crece en las cosas del Señor, a través de un conocimiento creciente de la gracia de Dios y el hecho de que Jesús es y lo ha hecho todo... Y en eso, el Espíritu dicta a través de la gracia y el conocimiento a tu alma cómo debe pensar, tomar decisiones, reaccionar, descifrar, discernir... y entonces tu alma comienza a cambiar las cosas físicas de tu vida al ordenar tu cuerpo... tu carne. ¡De repente, la gracia y la paz se multiplicaron! La esterilidad huye, la fecundidad abunda... ¡Así es como se supone que debe funcionar! Pero si el Espíritu permanece en forma de semilla, el alma nunca cambia. Sólo hay un cambio en el alma cuando hay desarrollo en el Espíritu. Terapia, medicina, manejo del alma... no es la solución. Dios quiere cambiar tu alma, pero la clave para eso es el desarrollo y crecimiento de un hombre/mujer en el espíritu. De aquí en adelante... Quiero que dejes de decir: "Necesito cambiar" y comiences a decir: "Necesito crecer". Lo que no necesitamos son nuevos programas o nuevas formas culturalmente relevantes / cliché de obtener la misma información. ¡Lo que sí necesitamos es disciplina personal y necesitamos un ambiente espiritual! Todo tu potencial está en la semilla. Piensa en un tallo de maíz. ¡Todas esas mazorcas de maíz provienen de 1 semilla, y 14 ciclos cubrirán la tierra! El ADN de Dios vencerá y abrumar todas las cosas de tu corazón y ciertamente en tu vida... ¡pero tiene que crecer! Me aterra estar en la misma posición el próximo año que este año. ¿Por qué? Porque la Biblia dice gracias a Dios que siempre nos guía en la victoria... y al contemplar la gloria de Dios en nuestras vidas (2 Corintios 3:18) se supone que debemos estar siendo constantemente transformados de gloria en gloria... así que si me encuentro en el mismo lugar año tras año, mes tras mes, entonces no importa lo que piense, por mucho que estudie, por muchos sermones que predique y por muchas sesiones de consejería que tenga.... No estoy siendo guiado por Dios Odio la corredora de la verdad… siempre aprendiendo y aprendiendo, pero sin ir a ninguna parte... nunca capaz de llegar a tener conocimiento de ello... caminar en ello ... ese tipo de vida no me lleva a ninguna parte. Esto es lo que sé... en toda la historia de la iglesia, nunca ha habido un solo hombre/mujer que haya sido fuerte y NO haya vivido la Biblia. Esto es lo que sé, no puedo volver atrás y cambiar el principio, pero puedo comenzar justo donde estoy y cambiar el final. Esto es lo que sé... No se trata de cuánto hemos perdido... se trata de cuánto nos queda. Esto es lo que sé. No se trata de lo que hago o dejo de hacer, se trata de crecer hacia la comprensión de lo que Jesús ha hecho. La mujer en el pozo... Jesús estaba en el lugar equivocado (Samaria). Estaba en un estado equivocado (aislado y solo). Él estaba haciendo lo incorrecto (hablar con una mujer soltera y pecadora). E hizo lo incorrecto. Le dio gracia, misericordia y aceptación en lugar de justicia. Y, sin embargo, era exactamente correcto en todos los sentidos. Perfecto de hecho. Y Sus palabras a ella fueron: (Juan 4:10), "Si conocieras el don de Dios, y quién es quien te dice: 'Dame de beber, le habrías pedido, y Él te habría DADO agua viva". Entonces, ¿tienes el valor? ¿El valor de dejarlo ir? ¿Aceptar la gracia de Dios a través de la Persona de Jesucristo? Ahí es donde todo comienza.... Hoja de papel en blanco... ese no es solo el registro de todo tu pecado en Jesucristo, sino que eso es también lo que se te debe a ti... Y... todo lo que puedes hacer para ganártelo... ¿Estás dispuesto a firmar?

2 Peter 1 vs 2-9

2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 2 – 3 • “Multiplied” The work of God in your life, in my life, how He has designed and purposed it to work in any life…is not addition… It’s not a “bolt on” of truth or goodness or happiness or righteousness…just going about our lives and we bolt on religion or we bolt on God and do our best… The work of God isn’t bolted on grace and peace…it is multiplied. Infiltrated into everything. Infested into everything about you and about me is the grace of God and the peace of God! • Both of these things precede knowledge. Do you see that? They go hand in hand in terms of timing, but in terms of priority and importance, number one, that leads to peace, that leads to true knowledge, number one is grace. I’m entirely wired and completely keen to jump always to knowledge. It’s easier. It’s natural. But if knowledge is my primary ingredient to my personal growth in the things of God, I won’t grow as I ought to grow. • Grace must be firmly and authoritatively the BOSS… The administrator of my peace AND my knowledge. The chaperon, the manager, the superintendent, the shot caller! If grace is not the agent through which comes my peace and knowledge of God, life and godliness, then the knowledge I gain is weak and the peace I have is false. • Peter will write at the end of this short letter, in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Notice again, grace before knowledge) And he ends that same verse and this entire letter with, “To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” When grace is the point, we grow up in the Lord. • You know, babies make life hard. They need others to do everything, so much, for them while in return they basically puke and poop on folks. They need bibs, burp cloths, baths, blankets, bottles, about a million wipes a day and they absolutely destroy your rest! Here’s the crazy part, the whole time they’re doing all those things and needing all those things that baby has no idea what they’re doing. They’re clueless and they don’t care! They’re making lives around them horrible or at least horribly HARD while all the while demanding the lives around them make their own more comfortable. • Herein lies the danger of a Christian that isn’t grown or growing up in the Lord in the correct order and priority of grace preceding and governing knowledge. And eventually, I’ve seen it time and time again, growing up into knowledge and not grace, not real relationship with the Lord, produces those that look like adults but puke and poop all over folks just like babies…extremely annoying, complete know-it-alls and most sadly, folks that know everything about the Bible and churchianity and Jesus but have no freedom. No grace and peace ruling in their heart of hearts and everything will one day have to be undone and rebuilt or that person will never be free…it’s a mess. • So, here’s what grace is… Literally, the literal definition of the word is favor. Favor means you’ve got something; you’ve received something that not 1% of you warrants. Grace is everything that God is free to do for us independent of who and what we are…The enemy knows your name and yet calls you by your sins while God knows your sins and yet calls you by name. Grace is the call of Christ by the cross. • You didn’t earn it, you can’t add to it, and in the end, it’s not about you, it’s about Jesus. It’s not your goodness, it’s His. My salvation and understanding is not a badge of honor but gifts from the Father…all through and because of and by grace…now I can add knowledge…in it’s right place and context. • Peter says here grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has GIVEN to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…look…through the knowledge of Him… Knowledge without grace is monstrous and makes babies out of grown-ups…but knowledge through grace is everything…everything you need to walk out this life with the Lord grown and growing! 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 4 • The word of God is/are the promises of God. And all things contained in this book, God will bring to pass. All things He has promised…and people get so upset with God about what He does and doesn’t do but everything He does and doesn’t do has been meticulously given to us through and in His Word! Why are we so confused, so distraught and at times so frustrated…? We know the word, we’ve read it, we’ve been taught it and its all right here? Because the governor, the filter, the language perhaps that we’ve read in and learned through hasn’t been the simple grace of God. • But it is through the precious promises of God that we have been given by His grace and that we understand and employ through the lens of grace, it is through these promises that we access all things that pertain to life and godliness…i.e. the divine nature of God. • You and I were born with a nature and it looks awfully like a baby. Feed me, take care of me, fix me, clean me, do for me….get mine…that’s my nature, and no matter how old I get or how successful I am in this life, without a work of the Spirit of God in my heart of hearts, my nature remains fallen, self-centered and ultimately dark. • But in order to be a Christian, to be saved, having peace with God and forgiveness of sin, Jesus said in John Chapter 3 verses 3 - 5, Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” • A Christian literally has a second nature being born again by the Spirit of God at the moment and point of salvation. Peter calls it here, “divine nature.” And the instruction manual, the guide to walking in this second nature is indeed the promises of God, the Word of God. And Peter continues…through that, we walk out on corruption. We break up with it…and by grace, we walk with God. • But that’s not where things end…that’s where things begin. Christianity doesn’t end, it’s not all wrapped up and signed, sealed, delivered when you get saved…that’s where the journey begins with the Lord…and Peter walks us through that in the next verses! 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 5 – 9 • What Peter is describing here can be characterized in one word and that word is growth. Big statement here, grace is free, growth is earned. Precisely why Peter says, “Giving all diligence, add to your faith…” We are so entirely comparative. We look at others and we think, “Why am I not more like that,” and in that you are degrading yourself and truly stifling your own growth. We should look at others and say, “I really like that about them, I want to be more like that in that way.” • What I’m getting at is that we have the best material around us all the time, especially in the church, to make amazing self-improvements and grow up in the Lord… The problem is, we immediately tend to be ashamed that we aren’t already there…and that’s a mistake. We also make the mistake in thinking that just because we aren’t yet at that thing we like in someone else, that the way we are, well, there’s just nothing good about me, I guess. Those are huge mistakes. They are self-centered. And they will keep you a baby wondering why you’re still a baby and blaming God and others for you feeling like a baby. • Much better to humble yourself. Accept and recognize the things that are great and accept and recognize the things that are lacking. And then…advance. Develop. In the Last Days Newsletter, Leonard Ravenhill tells about a group of tourists visiting a picturesque village who walked by an old man sitting beside a fence. In a patronizing way, one tourist asked, “Were any great men born in this village?” The old man heard the tourist and replied, “Nope, only babies.” There are no instant heroes…no instant GREAT men…whether in this world or in the Kingdom of God. Growth takes time and growth must be earned. Grace is free, growth is earned. • So how do we get started in this multiplication growth! You ever heard of the Beverly Hillbillies? “Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed, a poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, and then one day he was shootin’ at some food, and up through the ground came a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea. Well the first thing you know ol Jed’s a millionaire….” Let me ask you, when did Jed become a millionaire? When he bought the land or when he found the oil? You see, he was a millionaire the minute he moved onto that land…he just didn’t know it yet. He hadn’t discovered it yet… • We have been given the grace of God through the Person and payment of Jesus Christ. We have been given exceedingly great and precious promises by Him who cannot lie. All things that pertain to life and godliness… Time to become diligent, personally, for ourselves, in growing up in Him. So, inventory time…what is good about you? If you said nothing then you are walking in pride, you’re in the flesh and God cannot work with you and you will not grow. What’s good about you? Recognize and accept that. Now, what’s lacking. Recognize and accept that as well and start seeking the Lord in all of those things…on one hand, in gratitude and in the other in being teachable…both indeed are humility. And you will grow… More on that next week! 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 2 – 3 · "Multiplicado" La obra de Dios en tu vida, en mi vida, cómo Él la ha diseñado y se ha propuesto para que funcione en cualquier vida... no es adición... No es un "tornillo" de verdad o bondad o felicidad o rectitud... simplemente siguiendo con nuestras vidas y nos atornillamos a la religión o nos atornillamos a Dios y hacemos nuestro mejor esfuerzo ... La obra de Dios no está atornillada a la gracia y la paz... se multiplica. (Fíjate de nuevo, la gracia antes que el conocimiento) Y termina ese mismo versículo y toda esta carta con: "A Él sea la gloria tanto ahora como para siempre. Amén". Cuando la gracia es el punto, crecemos en el Señor. · Ya sabes, los bebés hacen la vida difícil. Necesitan que otros hagan todo, tanto, por ellos, mientras que a cambio básicamente vomitan y hacen caca en la gente. Necesitan baberos, paños para eructar, baños, mantas, botellas, alrededor de un ¡millones de toallitas al día y destruyen absolutamente tu descanso! Aquí está la parte loca, todo el tiempo que están haciendo todas esas cosas y necesitan todas esas cosas que el bebé no tiene idea de lo que están haciendo. ¡No tienen ni idea y no les importa! Están haciendo que las vidas a su alrededor sean horribles o al menos horriblemente DIFÍCILES, mientras que al mismo tiempo exigen que las vidas a su alrededor hagan que las suyas sean más cómodas. · Aquí radica el peligro de un cristiano que no ha crecido o crecido en el Señor en el orden correcto y la prioridad de la gracia que precede y gobierna el conocimiento. La gracia es todo lo que Dios es libre de hacer por nosotros independientemente de quiénes y qué somos... El enemigo conoce tu nombre y, sin embargo, te llama por tus pecados, mientras que Dios conoce tus pecados y, sin embargo, te llama por tu nombre. Y todas las cosas contenidas en este libro, Dios las llevará a cabo. Todas las cosas que Él ha prometido... y la gente se enoja tanto con Dios por lo que Él hace y lo que no hace, ¡pero todo lo que Él hace y no hace nos ha sido meticulosamente dado a través y en Su Palabra! ¿Por qué estamos tan confundidos, tan angustiados y a veces tan frustrados...? Conocemos la palabra, la hemos leído, nos la han enseñado y ¿está todo bien aquí? Porque el gobernador, el filtro, el lenguaje que tal vez hemos leído y aprendido no ha sido la simple gracia de Dios. · Pero es a través de las preciosas promesas de Dios que nos han sido dadas por Su gracia y que entendemos y empleamos a través de la lente de la gracia, es a través de estas promesas que accedemos a todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad ... es decir, la naturaleza divina de Dios. · Tú y yo nacimos con una naturaleza y se parece terriblemente a un bebé. Alimentarme, cuidarme, arreglarme, limpiarme, hacer por mí... conseguir el mío... esa es mi naturaleza, y no importa cuán viejo tenga o cuán exitoso sea en esta vida, sin una obra del Espíritu de Dios en mi corazón de corazones, mi naturaleza permanece caída, egocéntrica y, en última instancia, oscura. · Pero para ser cristiano, para ser salvo, tener paz con Dios y perdón de pecados, Jesús dijo en Juan capítulo 3 versículos 3 - 5, Jesús respondió y le dijo: "Con toda seguridad, te digo, a menos que uno nazca de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios". Nicodemo le dijo: "¿Cómo puede nacer un hombre cuando es viejo? ¿Puede entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer?" Jesús respondió: "De cierto de cierto, les digo, a menos que uno nazca del agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios". · Un cristiano literalmente tiene una segunda naturaleza al nacer de nuevo por el Espíritu de Dios en el momento y punto de salvación. Pedro lo llama aquí, "naturaleza divina". Y el manual de instrucciones, la guía para caminar en esta segunda naturaleza es de hecho las promesas de Dios, la Palabra de Dios. Y Pedro continúa... a través de eso, salimos de la corrupción. Rompemos con ella... y por gracia, caminamos con Dios. · Pero ahí no terminan las cosas... ahí es donde empiezan las cosas. El cristianismo no termina, no todo está envuelto y firmado, sellado, entregado cuando te salvas... ahí es donde comienza el viaje con el Señor... ¡y Pedro nos guía a través de eso en los siguientes versículos! 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 5– 9 · Lo que Pedro está describiendo aquí se puede caracterizar en una palabra y esa palabra es crecimiento. Gran declaración aquí, la gracia es gratuita, el crecimiento se gana. Precisamente por eso Pedro dice: "Dando toda diligencia, añádele a tu fe..." Somos totalmente comparativos. Miramos a los demás y pensamos: "¿Por qué no soy más así?", y en eso te estás degradando y realmente sofocando tu propio crecimiento. Deberíamos mirar a los demás y decir: "Realmente me gusta eso de ellos, quiero ser más así de esa manera". · A lo que estoy tratando de llagar es que tenemos el mejor material a nuestro alrededor todo el tiempo, especialmente en la iglesia, para hacer increíbles mejoras personales y crecer en el Señor ... El problema es que inmediatamente tendemos a avergonzarnos de no estar ya allí... y eso es un error. También cometemos el error de pensar que solo porque aún no estamos en esa cosa que nos gusta en otra persona, que de la manera en que somos, bueno, no hay nada bueno en mí, supongo. Esos son errores enormes. Son egocéntricos. Y te mantendrán como un bebé preguntándote por qué todavía eres un bebé y culpando a Dios y a los demás por sentirte como un bebé. · Mucho mejor humillarse. Acepta y reconoce las cosas que son grandes y acepta y reconoce las cosas que faltan. Y entonces... avanza. Desarrolla. En el Boletín de los Últimos Días, Leonard Ravenhill cuenta sobre un grupo de turistas que visitan un pintoresco pueblo que caminaba junto a un anciano sentado junto a una valla. De una manera condescendiente , un turista preguntó: "¿Nacieron grandes hombres en este pueblo?" El anciano escuchó al turista y respondió: "No, solo bebés". No hay héroes instantáneos ... no hay GRANDES hombres instantáneos ... ya sea en este mundo o en el Reino de Dios. El crecimiento lleva tiempo y el crecimiento debe ser ganado. La gracia es gratuita, el crecimiento se gana. · Entonces, ¿cómo comenzamos en este crecimiento de multiplicación? ¿Alguna vez has oído hablar de los Beverly Hillbillies? "Ven y escucha mi historia sobre un hombre llamado Jed, un montañero pobre, que apenas mantenía a su familia alimentada, y luego un día estaba disparando a algo de comida, y por el suelo llegó un burbujeante crudo. Es hora de ser diligentes, personalmente, para nosotros mismos, en crecer en Él. Entonces, el tiempo de inventario ... ¿Qué hay de bueno en ti? Si no dijiste nada, entonces estás caminando con orgullo, estás en la carne y Dios no puede trabajar contigo y no crecerás. ¿Qué hay de bueno en ti? Reconocer y aceptar eso. Ahora, lo que falta. Reconozca y acepte eso también y comience a buscar al Señor en todas esas cosas... por un lado, en gratitud y por otro en ser enseñable... ambos son, de hecho, humildad. 2 Peter 1 vs 1-2

The second epistle of Peter was written about six years after the first one, most likely around the year A.D. 64, and it appears that Peter wrote this final letter while he was imprisoned in Rome, but we can’t be sure. We are piecing together extra-biblical sources in coming to that conclusion. But we do read in 2 Peter 1:13-15, “Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover, I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.” Peter seems to hint at being in imminent danger with these words and according to church tradition, recorded as early as the end of the second century by writers such as Tertullian and then recounted later by Origen and in the writings of Jerome which was in the early fifth century, Peter was arrested and executed by Nero, in Rome, around A.D. 64, right around the time this letter was written. As most are aware, Peter was crucified however at his own request, he was crucified upside down, in a final showing of honor towards his hero, Jesus Christ, not wanting to be made equal with him, but rather to show that Jesus was much greater than he. So, we conclude and accept that this letter was perhaps written even on the eve of his execution, from Rome, around A.D. 64. And interestingly, Jesus told him this day would come in John 21:18-19, “Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”” So, there is a bit more gravity given to this letter considering the condition, situation and place Peter most likely had written it from, and he opens by identifying himself as the author, giving his full name (as it were), “Simon Peter…” 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 1 • I LOVE how Peter identifies/names himself! If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, all things have passed away, behold all things are made new. Paul wrote this in 2 Corinthians 5:17 and every new and true believer knows this to be the case because God has truly done a new thing in their hearts and they are entirely changed and incredibly free from the weight and the guilt of sin…however, as Peter hints here, as you age in the Lord, you grow a bit, mature a bit, and who you were before Christ, rather than hating that person so much, you begin to pity your former self…and with that pity, comes forgiveness. • Here Peter is at the end of his life, all that Jesus has done, all that he remembers, all that the Lord has shown him, all the ways God has used him, and in the end, he says essentially, I am complete…Simon and Peter…one forgiven, one fully furnished with the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ…both and every part of me at peace. He doesn’t reject and abandon who he was before Christ, he redeems that man, accepts and forgives even himslef…and I like that. • Nothing is lost in Christ. It’s not like before God nothing mattered…everything mattered, and now that I know the Lord, through the grace of God, even the previous version of me somehow remains and yet now is unto the glory of God because of what He has done, where He has brought me from and to…and Simon is not to be hidden, but to be redeemed and energized unto testimony of the power of the cross! • And different than his first epistle, Peter introduces himself as not just an apostle of Jesus Christ, but he introduces himself first as a bondservant of Jesus Christ. There truly is no greater compliment or office than to be characterized as a bondservant of the Lord. A bondservant was a slave that had been freed, but because of their love for their master, they make a personal decision to remain a servant, even after being liberated, for the rest of their lives. • This is oddly enough and counter-intuitively enough, the greatest positions of freedom and the highest possible honor attainable in this life. That Peter has made a personal decision to stay with and serve under the Lord. Just contemplate one element of that for a moment. What do you think the bond between master and servant is…? When they both know…they both know…no doubt its awesome. And to serve the Lord, the One, the King of Kings…not because you are commanded or demanded to, but because you love Him and He loves you…there is no greater position or office out there… • Some introduce themselves or title themselves as “Apostle,” and with it they expect respect and they are communicating some sort of spiritual authority, but it’s all entirely bankrupt. Holy and heavenly respect and spiritual authority are derived from the office and decision of bondservant far before and far more than the office and title of apostle. And truly, if you are not first a bondservant, then you are by no means a true apostle, because your service to the Lord is out of obligation, not admiration and personal relation. • And he writes this final letter to the faithful. To the righteous. To the Body and Bride of Christ and verse 1, within it alone, is wrapped the entirety of the gospel of Jesus Christ. How is it that you and I, that anyone ever obtains the most costly, valuable, expensive, precious thing that could ever be obtained? Complete forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Freedom from the power and penalty of sin and free to live unto God and life filled with love, joy, peace and power? How is it that you and I obtain that? • Hard work. Dedication. Studying. Practicing. Praying. Serving. Fixing. Being perfect in all that we do… Not at all. AT ALL! Peter lays it out for us and this is the best news from the best Master who while I was yet lost in my sin, Jesus gave His life for me, securing what I could not secure for myself…and so it is simply and only, “by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ,” that I have miraculously and finally and firmly accessed EXTREMELY costly FAITH! • I can’t buy it. I can’t earn it. I can’t learn it. I can’t achieve it. I can only receive it. If heaven isn’t a gift, then none of us are getting in! I have so sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and when face to face with Him how can I not hide my eyes in shame…? That’s all I can do on my own. But because of the righteousness of Jesus, placed in my place upon the altar of judgement, the cross, I have no more cause to hide my eyes from my Creator and Holy and Righteous judge…because by faith, because of God’s goodness and grace, my sin has been paid, dealt with, I am forgiven and free! And therefore… 2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 2 • Grace and peace multiplied… it’s a packaged deal and you need to know this. With faith, with true faith and receiving the righteousness of Jesus Christ, comes grace and comes peace. Grace flows to you and in you and ultimately through you and peace settles you in your heart of hearts in terms of who you are… • That’s why Peter says here, “In the knowledge of our God and of Jesus our Lord…” To know Him is to receive grace and to receive peace! There are so many ideas and things said and things taught about who God is, what He’s like, what He expects, what Jesus did and who He is…but do you know Him yourself!? That’s the word Peter uses here, not just head knowledge but personal finding-out, experiential knowledge…is that how you know Jesus? • So much of what is taught about God casts a shadow of condemnation and performance-based perfection…man, perfection is just perfection or its not perfection! And by the blood of Jesus, because of WHO God is, you have been welcomed and accepted and cleansed and perfected even in His sight NOW! • SO, grace MULTIPLIED to you! Dance in it, man! Peace MULTIPLIED to you! The shadow cast by the true cross of Christ is one of freedom and love and grace and finality…that’s it! So set aside every voice of man and listen to the voice of God… GET TO KNOW HIM personally. You’ll become His bondservant…, “Oh, I don’t want to be someone’s slave…!” FOOLISH. Yes, you do! The best Master, the best home, the best job, the best provision, the best bond… YEA YOU DO. Your flesh just cannot ever agree… I get that. That’s the nature of your flesh. But in Jesus you and I have access to a second nature, having been born again by the Spirit of God (which we will talk about next week)! And so it is by faith, a work of the Spirit, an agreement by my ego, (my own self will), and a gift of Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith…it is by faith you obtain what is precious and best! Que Pedro ha tomado la decisión personal de quedarse y servir bajo el Señor. Basta con contemplar un elemento de eso por un momento. ¿Cuál crees que es el vínculo entre amo y siervo...? Cuando ambos saben... ambos saben... sin duda es impresionante. Y para servir al Señor, al Uno, al Rey de Reyes... no porque se te ordene o se te exija, sino porque lo amas, Él te ama... no hay mayor posición u oficina por ahí... · Algunos se presentan o se titulan a sí mismos como "Apóstol", y con ello esperan respeto y están comunicando algún tipo de autoridad espiritual, pero todo está completamente en bancarrota. El respeto santo y celestial y la autoridad espiritual se derivan del oficio y la decisión del siervo mucho antes y mucho más que el oficio y el título de apóstol. Y en verdad, si no eres primero un siervo, entonces de ninguna manera eres un verdadero apóstol, porque tu servicio al Señor es por obligación, no por admiración y relación personal. · Y escribe esta última carta a los fieles. A los justos. Al Cuerpo y a la Esposa de Cristo y al versículo 1, sólo dentro de él, está envuelto la totalidad del evangelio de Jesucristo. ¿Cómo es que tú y yo, que alguien alguna vez obtiene la cosa más costosa, valiosa, cara, preciosa que se pueda obtener? Perdón completo de los pecados y de la vida eterna. ¿Libertad del poder y la pena del pecado y libertad para vivir para Dios y vida llena de amor, gozo, paz y poder? ¿Cómo es que tú y yo obtenemos eso? · Trabajo duro. Dedicación. Estudiando. Practicando. Orando. Sirviendo. Arreglando. Ser perfectos en todo lo que http://hacemos...en absoluto. ¡EN ABSOLUTO! Pedro nos los expone, y esta es la mejor noticia del mejor Maestro que mientras yo estaba perdido en mi pecado, Jesús dio su vida por mí, asegurando lo que yo no podía asegurar para mí mismo... y así es simple y únicamente, "por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo", que he accedido milagrosa y final y firmemente a la FE EXTREMADAMENTE costosa! · No puedo comprarlo. No puedo ganármelo. No puedo aprenderlo. No puedo lograrlo. Solo puedo recibirlo. Si el cielo no es un regalo, ¡entonces ninguno de nosotros puede entrar! He pecado tanto y he estado destituido de la gloria de Dios y cuando me encuentro cara a cara con Él, ¿cómo no voy a esconder mis ojos avergonzado...? Eso es todo lo que puedo hacer por mi cuenta. Pero debido a la justicia de Jesús, colocada en mi lugar sobre el altar del juicio, la cruz, no tengo más motivos para esconder mis ojos de mi Creador y Juez Santo y Justo... porque por fe, por la bondad y gracia de Dios, mi pecado ha sido pagado, y esta resuelto, ¡soy perdonado y libre! Y por lo tanto... 2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículo 2 · La gracia y la paz se multiplicaron... es un trato empaquetado y necesitas saber esto. Con la fe, con la verdadera fe y recibiendo la justicia de Jesucristo, viene la gracia y viene la paz. Esa es la palabra que Pedro usa aquí, no solo conocimiento de la cabeza, sino descubrimiento personal, conocimiento experiencial ... ¿Es así como conoces a Jesús? · Mucho de lo que se enseña acerca de Dios proyecta una sombra de condenación y perfección basada en el desempeño... hombre, ¡la perfección es solo perfección o no es perfección! ¡Y por la sangre de Jesús, debido a QUIÉN es Dios, has sido bienvenido y aceptado y limpiado y perfeccionado incluso delante de Sus ojos AHORA! · ¡ENTONCES, la gracia SE MULTIPLICÓ para ti! ¡Baila en ella, hombre! ¡La paz se multiplicó para ti! La sombra proyectada por la verdadera cruz de Cristo es una sombra de libertad, amor, gracia y finalidad... ¡Eso es todo! Así que deja a un lado toda voz del hombre y escucha la voz de Dios... CONÓCELO personalmente. Te convertirás en Su siervo..., "¡Oh, no quiero ser esclavo de alguien...!" TONTO. ¡Sí, lo quieres! El mejor Maestro, el mejor hogar, el mejor trabajo, la mejor provisión, el mejor vínculo... SÍ, LO QUIERES. Tu carne simplemente no puede estar de acuerdo ... Lo entiendo. Esa es la naturaleza de tu carne. ¡Pero en Jesús tú y yo tenemos acceso a una segunda naturaleza, habiendo nacido de nuevo por el Espíritu de Dios (del cual hablaremos la próxima semana)! Y así es por la fe, una obra del Espíritu, un acuerdo de mi ego, (mi propia voluntad), y un don de Jesús, el Autor y Consumador de nuestra fe... ¡es por la fe que obtienes lo que es precioso y mejor!
