Moses and Eleazer have obeyed the Lord and divided the Promised Land in accordance to God’s instructions, as the larger tribes would inherit larger portions of the land while the smaller tribes inherit smaller portions of the land, and none of the land was to be transferable it was to always stay within the families that it was originally allotted to.

Before Israel inherits the Land, God through Moses described in great detail the borders of the land that He’s bringing the children of Israel into. After outlining the borders for the twelve tribes, Moses is now going to command Israel on where the Levites are to live. Remember the tribe of Levi did not inherit like all the other tribes because God declared to them that He was their inheritance > Num 18:20, therefore they will be scattered among the other tribes through the allocation of cities and towns that are described in this chapter.

After forty years of wandering in the wilderness Israel has finally come to is desired destination The Promised Land, and as we’ll see in these last few chapters even before they possessed the Land God had already given them the Land. Meaning although the Canaanites were still living in the Promise land, God unbeknownst to them, has already evicted them from out of their cities, villages, and towns, they just didn’t know it yet.
