Last week we saw a man named Jephthah lead Israel into battle against a more powerful people the Ammonites and Amalekites and come out victorious now after the victory comes another trial.

After 45 yrs of peace and prosperity Israel turned back into idolatry and it angered the Lord to the point where He left them to themselves and the Philistines, Ammonites, Amalekites, Amorites rose up and harassed, oppressed and distressed Israel for eighteen years. This is how long it took almost two decades before Israel cried out to The Lord, confessing that they have sinned against Him by serving the false gods of the nations around them, thus forsaking Jehovah God Who had delivered and blessed them continuously.

Chapter nine ends with Abimelech the man who executed sixty nine brothers so that he could ascend to the leadership position over his tribe and the people in the promised land, dying a horrible death because he put power and position over God and Righteousness.
