Fight to hold onto the words of Jesus

January 19, 2020

1. (vv. 22-24) because those who don't won't be saved 2. (vv. 25-27) because time is limited 3. (vv. 28-30) because some who think they're saved will be terribly surprised FOR FURTHER REFLECTION 1. (vv. 22-24) what does it mean to continually strive to enter the narrow door of salvation? What s the difference between WORKS-based salvation to try to earn your salvation and WORD-based striving that leads to repentance and good works as a result (see also Luke 8:15, Galatians 3:1-9)? 2. (vv. 25-27) The main question we must ask ourselves is not, "DO I know Jesus?" but "Does Jesus know me?" How can we be assured that Jesus KNOWS us (see also Luke 8:15)? 3. (vv. 28-30) Read Isaiah 25:6-8. How does this image of future salvation encourage you to strive to hold onto the words of Jesus in a fallen world filled with difficulties, cares, riches and pleasures that seek to pull us away from God (see also Luke 8:13-14)?

The King's Pronouncement

July 5, 2020 • Paul Wilson

For prayerful reflection: 1. What sticks out to you from Jesus’ description of the Pharisees in verses 14-15? What are ways that you are sometimes like the Pharisees? 2. Reflect on verse 17. If you really believed that, how would it impact your reading of the Bible? 3. Verse 18 touches on a controversial topic both in Jesus’ day and our day. How does the context help us understand why Jesus says this?
