Last week, we focused on God’s promised work of redemption; that is, in Christ, God brings fallen people back into a relationship with Himself. Jesus took upon Himself the punishment that we deserve, satisfying the Father’s wrath and securing our hope of an eternity in God’s presence.

At the end of last week’s study on the fall of man, we established that humanity was in desperate need for a savior. In particular, someone unaffected by the curse of sin and someone fully content with God’s goodness would have to enter the scene. We find this person in Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

This week we consider how the curse of sin affects all of creation and separates humans from Creator God. Although we were made in God’s image and for His glory, the reality of sin reminds us, in fact, men and women are no longer “very good” (Gen 1:31). This part of the story forces us to confront both our need for salvation and our inability to save ourselves, and yet, our story is not without hope.
