As we continue our series on the prosperity gospel, we will consider Jesus’ warning about false teachers at the end of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7:15-16: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Jesus encourages us to look carefully at the fruit of their lives in order to discern if they are false teachers. In our study this week, we consider several of the warnings in the New Testament about false teachers, which provides us with insight into identifying false teachers in our day.

DISCERNING THE TRUTH The Gospel is the best news the world has ever heard, but many false teachers have distorted God's truth into a lie. In modern America, thousands are giving their hearts and paychecks to so-called ministers of the Word who promise material blessing in the world. For three weeks (October 13, 20, and 27), we consider the claims of these dangerous and popular teachers and compare their words to the true Gospel found in God's Word. APPLYING THE TRUTH Each week during the Sunday School hour, we will watch one part of a documentary on the prosperity gospel titled, "American Gospel."
