Day 258 - Read Psalm 61-65

January 6, 2025 • Psalms 61—65

David praised God as his rock, strong tower, and his refuge against the enemy. David’s song in chapter sixty-two described his consistent trust in God. He condemned those who trusted in riches and encouraged trust and obedience to God. David sought God earnestly in his song in chapter sixty-three. He described his soul’s thirst for God as one would thirst in a dry and weary land. He rejoiced in God. Chapter sixty-four is a song of David asking God to hide him from the wicked men who sought his death. Chapter sixty-five is a song of praise to God for salvation. God is the creator, and His creation sings together for joy because of His provisions.

Day 259 - Read Psalm 66-68

January 7, 2025 • Psalms 66—68

The psalmist praised God for his deeds and for hearing the needs of His people. God answered his prayers and did not reject him. Chapter sixty-seven is a song calling the nations to praise God. A request was made to God to allow His face shine on His people that others will know His saving power. Chapter sixty-eight is a song of David recognizing the power of God and His ability to scatter those who are wicked. David compared the reward of the righteous and God’s judgement of the wicked. He praised God for salvation and the deliverance He provided from death. He recognized God’s love for His people, Israel.

Day 257 - Read Psalm 57-60

January 5, 2025 • Psalms 57—60

David wrote chapter fifty-seven while hiding from Saul in a cave. His refuge was in the Lord. Chapter fifty-eight is a psalm of David proclaiming victory of the righteous over the wicked because God’s hand was on the righteous. David wrote chapter fifty-nine as a plea to God to deliver him from the men Saul sent to kill him. God was David’s fortress, the One who would bring vengeance on his enemies. David wrote a song in chapter fifty seeking restoration for his people by the hand of God. Man’s abilities are weak, and God’s strength will provide victory. They would conquer their enemies only if they turned to God and His strength.

Day 256 - Read Psalm 52-56

January 4, 2025 • Psalms 52—56

David described God’s love as steadfast and enduring. He trusted God to love him and protect him against his enemies. Chapter fifty-three is a prophecy of the coming Messiah from the lineage of Jacob. David looked to the time his people would be delivered. Chapter fifty-four is a song of David to God for deliverance when Saul was seeking his death. Chapter fifty-five is a song of David casting his burdens on the Lord. He encouraged trust in God in times of trouble. David wrote chapter fifty-six as a song proclaiming his trust in God while he was being attacked by the Philistines.
