Day 249 - Read Psalm 27-31

December 28, 2024 • Psalms 27—31

David wrote a song proclaiming the Lord as His salvation and stronghold. David trusted in the Lord for protection and desired to be in His presence forever. David praised the Lord for hearing his call for help and mercy. The glory of the Lord is the theme of chapter twenty-nine. David described the power of the Lord’s voice. David explained in chapter thirty there may be pain and suffering, but the Lord is faithful and will always come through for His own. The faithful will not be moved. Chapter thirty-one is a commitment by David to place his trust in the Lord. The Lord proved faithful, and David rejoiced in Him.

Day 254 - Read Psalm 45-48

January 2, 2025 • Psalms 45—48

The forty-fifth psalm describes the greatness of God, the future Messiah, and the church which is the bride of Christ. God’s kingdom and His throne is forever. He has favored His Son and His bride (the church) will remain. Psalm forty-six is a song that describes God as a refuge and stronghold, and a very real and present help when His children are in need. He is a safe harbor for His children. Chapter forty-seven proclaims God as the King over all the earth. The God of Abraham is the “Most High”. Chapter forty-eight is a song praising God for Mount Zion and God’s victory over the enemies of Israel. Zion is a name referring to Jerusalem.

Day 253 - Read Psalm 41-44

January 1, 2025 • Psalms 41—44

David asked the Lord to be gracious to him against his enemies. They sought his death, but the Lord protected and sustained him. Chapter forty-two is a call to God for hope during the soul’s turmoil. His desire for God was described in a picture of a deer desperately seeking water in the flowing streams. He searched for hope in God while others taunted him. Chapter forty-three is a plea for guidance from the Lord. He placed his hope in God and praised him for his salvation. The forty-fourth chapter is a song that includes recognition of God’s provisions and protection for His people throughout history. He asked God for redemption in desperate time of need.

Day 252 - Read Psalm 38-40

December 31, 2024 • Psalms 38—40

David pleaded with the Lord to help him in his time of need. His enemies were eager to see him suffer. David confessed his iniquity and sin, desiring to do right before the Lord. He asked the Lord for peace in chapter thirty-nine, acknowledging his time on earth as a breath. He described himself as a sojourner, or a foreigner traveling through this world. David praised the Lord as his help and deliverer in chapter Forty. He sang a new song of praise for what the Lord had done and for what He would continue to do in his life.
